Chapter 2: Sneaking out

– Miss Aya, please wait for me! – my maid and childhood friend ran after me.

– Come on Faye, the roof is beautiful when it's sunrise and we are going to be late if you don't hurry up! – I shouted to my friend.

After a couple of minutes climbing the stairs of one of the towers of the castle we arrived at the roof and we could see the horizon, still, a light deep blue was in the sky, indicating that was still time.

This reminds me of the time I was born in which the same blue-tinted the sky.

I always tried to conceal that I have some memories of my previous life. Although I don't remember my name or my family, I could remember all that I read and research about, I even remember every detail of the surgeries I performed. I was a doctor in my previous life I was sure about it, I also enjoyed cooking and was a fanatic of ecological products and I knew all kinds of recipes.

That was not all, at the moment I became self-aware, I realized that this world was completely different. Instead of trusting in human power, it relayed on Sihir, or what I used to call magic.

– Look, Faye, it's the sunrise! – I exclaimed happily, but soon I realized that she was asleep in my lap. I knew this moment wouldn't last long as long I am a princess of this country.

A beautiful pink was emerging on the horizon and we sited there in silence. I was hypnotized by the colours of the changing sky. Soon after this pink was being replaced by a dark orange which changed to a lighter colour with the sun in the middle of where I was looking. Finally, the sun left the horizon and raised up the sky.

– Faye, wake up, the sun is already up. – I shook her gently.

Faye opened her eyes and realized that she missed the sunrise like most of the times. – I fell asleep again! – she exclaimed sadly. – Aya, you should have woken me up. – Faye dropped the honorific since we were alone, like when we were kids.

– I felt sorry since you were sleeping so peaceful. Oh, by the way, I'm going to go to the market today. Would you cover for me? – I asked my friend who was just standing up.

I was a bit rebellious, when I was 8 I started sneaking out the castle and go the streets near the market. That's where I pretended to be a baron's daughter named Dina.

– No way Aya, you know it's dangerous and that you will be discovered as soon you step out. – She said angrily and I gave her my famous puppy eyes. – Sigh, you still going like always no matter what I say. I will spend all day in the kitchen. I will not know of anything, I will just say that you are throwing a tantrum like the spoiled girl you are. – I hugged her immediately after she lets me off the hook like always.

– Thank you, Faye! You are the best friend in the world. – And she gave me a warm tender smile and hugged me back while hurrying me to go back to my room.

As soon as I went back, I dressed in modest clothes. I braided my hair and grabbed a light green dress and a pair of brown lace boots that covered my calves. The dress had a simple white flowery embroidery on the chest area a tulle skirt the length it covered all my legs since it was not appropriate in this society, but at least I could wear short sleeves. I wish I could use shorts like in the past. The dress was made from a very light fabric which made it fresh and wearable in this weather. In addition, it wasn't like a princess dress but it was fitting for a daughter of a baron. The boots were high and with lace, it was hard to wear them, but once put on they were very comfortable, especially since it didn't have heels. Although, I would have preferred some sneakers over boots, again that didn't exist.

I snuck out of my room and went to the garden, over there I snuck out climbing the wall thanks to a tree that had branches over the top of the wall. Swinging like a monkey to jump off the branch and reach the floor I got down and run toward the trees that surrounded that part of the castle. Then I climbed another tree and summoned a spell to hide my identity. I could have transported to the market or outside the castle. But that was no fun, it did not have one piece of adventure if I took the easy way out. I was a child in my current body, I wanted to act again as a child, I will live most of my life in adulthood, I did not need to speed the process of growing up when I knew already that it was no fun at all. On the contrary, was very boring and had no excitement whatsoever. Until I died, I spend my days studying and working hard to be a doctor. It was fulfilling but obviously boring even though I liked to study.

After getting out of the castle I still was inside the town walls, so I walked until reaching the centre of the castle town, where I could pretend I could be Dina. I walked through the market. I would have liked to go into the centre of the town, but that was very dangerous since I was acting nonetheless as a noble's daughter.

While walking in the street I saw a candy shop or at least it looked like those when I was a child in my past life. When I went inside it was actually a magic shop, each ligic or magic stone as I would define, it was like a marble. Usually, they were similar to crystals or stones. But here they were so shiny and round that it looked like candy and the amount they had was impressive too. They would even have most of them in jars. The shop was bustling with activity, looking around some protective charms, I found a necklace. It was a pendant, it had a beautiful big ligic that was engraved with petals and it was surrounded by a silver wire with the form of flowers. The chain was like the flowers intertwined, it was a magnificent piece indeed.

I searched for a helper at the shop in order to buy this piece, as it was perfect for my birthday ball, and also to know what kind of charm was it as it didn't emit the same aura as the rest. After the helper explained to me that the difference was that it was a much higher quality protective charm, I decided to buy it. Nonetheless, I did try to negotiate the price a little as it was ridiculously expensive.

When I arrived in my room one of the butlers was waiting for me. He bowed as soon as he saw me and when I got next to him he said:

– Your Highness, your illustrious Majesty has summoned you, please accompany me there. –

– Yes, certainly. – I actually was surprised that my father called me, for him I was just someone. I had no importance whatsoever because he had his male heir. Even though women should have the right to inherit the Crown in case they surpass the male in abilities, he never checked my abilities. I had no intention of being a ruler of the country, so this was good for me, but I was hurt due to indifference even when I was born.

When I arrived in my father's chambers I made a reverence.

– I have arrived father. – I actually wanted to ask him why he asked for me. Why I was the private chambers of my father when he never had let me enter before.

– I need to you do something for me. I know for a long time that you sneak out of the castle to heal and teach them how to prevent and cure the most common diseases. – He didn't reprimand me, he was actually speaking as he was proud of what I was doing. – The first thing I want to know is how you obtained this knowledge.

Of course, I wouldn't tell him the truth that I actually remembered that I was a doctor in my previous life. So, I just told him that I liked to read the books in the library and learned a lot about plants and different types of diseases and types of magic to heal, although the essence of the magic itself was to diagnose.

– I understand then come with me. I want you to take a look at this. Daniel, take everyone else out of the room. – My father said sternly. Daniel just bowed and took everyone out of the room including himself. My father when everyone got out, raised his shirt and I could see a lot of small and big red-purple spots all over his neck, shoulders and arms.
