Menagerie (2)

A week passed by in the blink of an eye for almost everyone. For Logan, it was him doing all that he could to prepare Menagerie for it to become a Kingdom. The documents needed were partially destroyed yet in a few sleepless nights, Logan managed to redo or rewrite all that was required. After that, Logan threw himself into hard labor and construction. Helping anywhere he could.

.

The week passed by slowly for Logan as he either maned or started projects the new Kingdom needed. On the plus side, Logan was thankful for the supplies that Weiss had delivered to Menagerie. With them, all the buildings that were damaged or destroyed were rebuilt and were better than ever. With the leftover supplies, Logan had started rebuilding and upgrading the wall that surrounded Menagerie. What was once a thick wooden wall turned into a wall of cut stone with mortar gluing the blocks together.

.

Once the wall was completed, with added towers, Logan got to work on finding out who was the culprit behind the bombings. With the Spider's Den backing, it took Logan all of five days to find a lead. One that looked normal on the surface but on a closer look revealed a darker undertone.

.

A company by the name of Bulwork Shipping had a series of reported destroyed Manta crafts that went down in recent years due to an up in Grimm attacks. Yet they hadn't gone about to replace any losses they had. The Spiders that went to investigate the company came back with nothing to report, saying the company was in the middle of remodeling its whole company. Logan found this suspicious since it had yet to be finished over the last year. So this was the first place Logan investigated.

.

During the investigation, Logan found that the company headquarters was empty. No desks, files, or computers, and only a skeleton crew to watch over the place. Even after interrogating the skeleton crew revealed that they were just getting paid to watch over the building for the past year.

.

Logan sighed and headed back to the Spider's Den to regroup and reorganize to try again. Getting back, Logan gave Lil' Miss the information he found out as payment before using her services once again to find any lead. Unfortunately, they found nothing concrete other than Bulwork.

.

Logan ended up heading back to Vale with Lil' Miss' word she would find something for Logan to go off of. A 'Den's Promise' she called it. One that would always follow through with, regardless of the danger.

.

Logan sighed as he stepped off of his Pelican with Team RWBY in tow. RWBY having stay the extra few days to help out Kuo Kuana.

.

Logan was tired, that was clear from the way he walked. Staggering and muttering incoherently. With dirty clothes coving his body, he looked as if he hadn't slept in several days, which he hadn't.

.

When Glynda saw Logan's state, she had him hit the shower while she made him some tea to ease his tiredness. After the shower and tea, Logan fell asleep with Dorothy on his chest as the two of them slept on the couch. Glynda sighed at the two and took a picture of them for the scrapbook she was making for the family.

.

Hours later, Logan woke up to Dorothy sitting on his chest and smacking his face. The slight glare for him didn't stop the smacking until he was fully awake.

.

Logan: "Yes, muchkin?" Logan asked as he sat up, pulling Dorothy into his lap.

.

To which Dorothy started patting her stomach and going, "Ah'

.

Logan: "Let's see if there is any baby food," Logan chuckled tiredly, "Maybe some carrots."

.

Dorothy showed her enthusiasm by raising her arms and going, "Ah!", and giggling.

.

Logan huffed a bit before carrying Dorothy to the kitchen and sitting her in her highchair. Once she was buckled in, Logan turned around and opened the fridge, finding some mashed carrots and corn in a Tupperware bowl. Smiling, Logan pulled the bowl out and quickly warmed it up with his flames before getting a spoon and sitting at the table next to Dorothy.

.

For the next five minutes, Logan sat there with a smile on his face as fed Dorothy with one hand and cleaned her face with a rag in the other. Glynda walked in and saw this, she couldn't help but smile. She loved it when Logan acted like a doting father to Dorothy. Having known about his first life, she could help but think this was his just reward for all that he went through. Sighing, Glynda walked up and kissed both Logan's and Dorothy's foreheads before starting to pull things out for a late lunch/early dinner.

.

The next morning, Logan got a call from the Spider's Den about Bulwork's new headquarters being on the outskirts of Vale. Sighing, Logan headed out to the CCT to get the location of their HQ before planning his raid. After a thirty-minute talk with the business ledger keeper, Logan got the location and flew off to see what was there.

.

Getting to the location, Logan found it still in the process of it being built. The building was still in the framework stage and had yet to get anywhere more than that. Logan sighed and flew down to the worksite and looked around, finding nothing out of ordinary.

.

Getting fed up with finding nothing, Logan cussed and kicked the dirt under his feet. Knocking a pebble away and into a tree. Logan turn and went to walk away when his senses screamed at him to duck. Even though he ducked as fast as he could, something clipped the top of his head and sent him rolling into the dirt.

.

With his aura tanking the blow, Logan rolled after hitting the dirt and stood as fast as he could. Seeing nothing, Logan whipped his head around trying to find out who or what was the cause. Logan saw and felt nothing until his instincts screamed again, this time from his right. Not taking the chance, Logan shot off the ground and flew up high. Even from a bird's eye view, Logan saw nothing that could have hit him.

.

Even with his [Presence Detection] active, Logan found nothing that could be the cause of his instincts going haywire. As he went to descend to look for clues, he saw it. A shockwave exploded from below him as soon as he got close, invisible until it was too late.

.

Logan: 'A Semblance.' Logan thought as he dodged the shockwave. 'Invisible and undetectable until activated. It creates a shockwave in a single direction after activation, most likely acts as a landmine or remote explosive.'

.

Logan threw his ash out, hoping to activate a few of the landmines in order to clear a place to stand safely. However, that didn't produce any results causing Logan to frown. Seeing that was the case, Logan slowly descended and kept his guard up. However, as soon as Logan touched the ground, it exploded into a shockwave. Sending dirt and rocks up at Logan's face. Using his ash, Logan made a shield to tank the hits as he drew his sword and [Ace of Spades].

.

Logan: 'They're more like remote explosives rather than Landminds.' Logan thought as another one exploded behind him, using more ash to tank the hit. 'That means there's someone watching and activating them in turn.'

.

As soon as Logan finished that thought, he felt something at the edge of his [Presence Detection] just at the treeline. Not taking any more chances or risks, Logan fired six shots at the presence while dodging the third blast. Sensing that the presence was dodging the shots, Logan dashed forward towards it while firing more to keep it occupied with dodging rather than him getting closer.

.

Once Logan made it to the treeline, he could feel the presence moving deeper into the foliage. Figuring it was a trap, Logan flew high and fast while gaining on the presence. Suddenly, the presence stopped and started running towards Logan. The next thing Logan knew, he was hit.

.

Logan: "...squawk..." Logan cried weakly as he fell from the sky while holding his privates.

.

As Logan was about to hit the ground, the presence revealed itself and kicked Logan in the back, sending him into a tree.

.

Logan: "That's gonna hurt in the morning." Logan grunted as he pushed himself up.

???: "Stay away from my family's property!" The presence shouted at Logan.

Logan: "I'm just trying to find out about Bulwork." Logan grunted and pushed himself standing.

.

As Logan looked up, the presence vanished as if it was never there. Even his [Presence Detection] couldn't pick the presence back up.

.

Logan: "Was it a ghost?" Logan asked himself. "Then again, ghosts don't kick someone into a tree or smack them in the privates with a semblance..."

.

Logan sighed as he waited for the Council to make a decision. Menagerie was welcomed as a new Kingdom, but the vote for them to have a seat on the Council was still up in the air due to various reasons. One of which is the attack.

.

They were afraid that the people responsible would attack them next. Logan argued that this wasn't a terrorist attack, but an act of war. Whoever was behind it was trying to start one in which all Faunus and those who support them were the targets. The Council didn't see it that way and called for a private vote on the matter.

.

It had been twenty minutes since then and Logan was losing his patience.

.

Once it hit thirty minutes, the Council came back.

.

Council Member: "We have made a decision. Menagerie will not be a part of the council at this time. Until the threat of these attacks is mute, they shall stay as an independent kingdom." A Council Member announced as soon as they came back

Logan: "And if the attacks come towards any of the other Kingdoms?" Logan asked with a quirked eyebrow.

CM2: "Then we shall respond in kind." A second Council Member told him. "So far these attacks have been centered around Menagerie. If they began to spread out, then we shall take action. Simple as that."

Logan: "I understand your views." Logan sighed. "What about support? Will any of the Kingdoms lend their support to Menagerie in this time if need?"

CM3: "Atlas is willing to send materials to help aid in rebuilding." Once Council member said.

Logan: "Thank you." Logan said, knowing that it was only a PR stunt of Atlas.

CM2: "Mistral is sending supplies as we speak." The Mistral Council Member spoke up, catching Logan off guard. "Haven's Headmistress was worried that we could be next as a large portion of our populace is made up of Faunus. I agreed with her. So we will be sending several ships filled with relief and rebuilding supplies."

Logan: "Thank you for your generosity." Logan thanked the council member. "The supplies will be received with great joy." Logan told them, 'Though we don't really need them,' he thought.

.

The meeting ended soon after with Logan getting a list of what was going to be transferred to Menagerie from Mistral. The supplies would do Menagerie good for the coming weeks since the fishing season was close to ending. The more Logan looked over the list he was given, the more he was satisfied with the relief supplies. Timber for construction and rations that would last them weeks.

.

Logan: "Finally." LOgan groaned out as he sat down on his couch with Glynda by his side and Dorothy playing with blocks in front of them. "I was beginning to think that I'll never get away from everything."

Glynda: "I know, I was beginning to worry the same thing." Glynda said as she cuddled up against his side. "I've missed your warmth."

Logan: "And I missed you too." Logan said as he hugged her.

Dorothy: "Da!" Dorothy guggled at them, waving her chubby arms, wanting to be picked up.

Glynda: "Yes, you're included too." Glynda chuckled and used her semblance to pick Dorothy up and bring her to them.

Logan: "I really missed this." Logan mused as he hugged Dorothy and Glynda in his arms.
