Chapter 15

"Just keep ignoring him."

"I want to resign." She blurted out.

I was sitting on my bed now and she was on hers which was opposite mine. We both sat on the edge of the bed talking silently."You know I won't advice you to resign until you find another job. Not only is a job hard to find in Nigeria it's also going to depress you to be idle. Imagine having to put up with Ada and Kachi for all the times you would be idle. From morning till night all that toxic air. That's like a death sentence." I advised sincerely. My voice barely above a whisper so someone wouldn't here me or else they entered the room.

I looked outside to make sure no one was listening through the window. I didn't trust the walls not to listen.

"I think you are right. I'll just have to put up with him until I find a better job even if he annoys me to the bones. Staying here all day with those two is basically a death sentence. I only have to stay here in the evening and I'm almost loosing my mind at how low they are. I wonder how you stay with them in the afternoons." She asked giving me the pity look whilst shaking her head.

It would be worth pitying me for if I wasn't who I was.

"My dear I don't have their time. If they like they should kill each other. I come home and sleep immediately and when I'm tired of sleeping I go to the library to read. Nsobu'adi" I joked.

She laughed and laid down on the bed. We didn't talk much. I plugged my earpiece while I chatted with Emeka on whatsapp. I just had to be prepared for when the evil duo came in with their noise.

"So who's the guy making you smile like this. I hope he has money oh. Men are only meant to collect money from not to love. They are all scum. They make you believe they love you and then break your heart. At least dating the rich ones won't be a total loss as you can wipe your eyes with the money they give." She laughed and I laughed too feeling sad for her.

She was speaking from a broken heart like most girls did and I understood her, perfectly. I had said same before I met Chiemeka.

I was going to tell her it was wrong for her to think so. To tell her that not all men are scum that some could actually love. I wanted to tell her love was enough and money didn't really matter to me. I wanted to tell her so much,

But,

The evil duo just had to come in.

Sister Kachi came in angrily shouting. "You will keep reporting me to father since that's all you are good at. You think I'll let you win. This is war."

Lara put on her earpiece just when I did. All conversations adjourned.

I played Despacito increasing the volumes past safe point. It was actually worth it cause their voices were drowned by the music.

Ada came to sleep not saying anything to Sister Kachi even when she kept shouting. She put on her earpiece never uttering a single word.

But oh, sister Kachi didn't need any one to indulge her. She didn't take the cue to shut up, rather she increased her voice.

That night I dreamt that I had kissed Emeka back with passion with as much passion as I felt for him.
