Jenny Wu's Arrival

"Jenny?" Mr. Wu looked at his ex-wife in shock.

"Why so surprised, Charles?" Jenny asked as she walked over and glared at him. "I got your email. Thank you for notifying me in such a prompt manner!"

"I also left you a voice-mail!"

"How considerate of you," she said coldly before glaring at Sun Mei. "Did my daughter get sick on your watch?" she asked her.

"No, Jenny," Mr. Wu replied immediately. "Sun Mei was not around. Plus, Lily did not get sick. She had an allergic reaction."

"Big difference!"

"Actually, there is a big difference," said Sun Mei, who surprised herself by speaking out. "This is not a common cold or the flu. Allergies do not pass. She will probably have to live with this for the rest of her life. And you should be aware of it, in case she has another allergic reaction while she is in your care."

"Aren't you a know-it-all?" said Jenny Wu. "Maybe Charles could use you after all, since he seems to know nothing about taking care of children."

"That was uncalled for, Jenny," Mr. Wu said solemnly.

"Was it? Couldn't our daughter have died because of you and your incompetence?" she asked while slowly raising her voice.

"She could also have died when you left her home alone back when she was a little baby!"

"Is that your answer to everything?" Jenny shot back. "I don't care what you think of me, Charles! I want to see a doctor right now!"

"I noticed that there's a psychiatrist on the first floor," Sun Mei thought.

"You'll have to wait until Lily's doctor finishes his rounds. Do you think you can do that? Or are they waiting for you at some kind of spa?" said Mr. Wu.

"Good one," thought Sun Mei, who tactfully kept her mouth shut.

"You're hilarious, Charles," said Jenny Wu before she smiled slowly. "But yes, I can do that. We'll have so much fun waiting here together…"

"I wish Mr. Wu had thought this through," thought Sun Mei.

Mr. Wu just stared daggers at his ex-wife. He was definitely not going to tell her to leave. Sun Mei knew that much. He always put Lily's happiness before his own. If Lily wanted her mother there, he would put up with Jenny's presence for her sake.

Jenny walked over to the door and then turned toward Sun Mei. "Aren't you coming in? Or is Charles just paying you to stand here and look pretty?"

"Did she just call me pretty?" Sun Mei wondered in surprise.

"Not that you are pretty by any means," Jenny added.

Mr. Wu gritted his teeth in annoyance. "Stop insulting the person who looks after your daughter every day. At least she got to the hospital before you did."

Jenny huffed. "I'm sure you notified her before you emailed me!"

Mr. Wu blushed a little in response. However, his reaction only seemed to amuse Jenny.

"Why am I not surprised, Charles?" she asked him with a smile.
