"Why am I a traitor, Mr. Wu?" asked Veronica as she closed the door behind her. She seemed to be completely amused by the fact that Mr. Wu was trying to find something to cover himself up.
"You said you would bring me new clothes! And you never mentioned that you were not alone!" Mr. Wu shot an embarrassed look at Sun Mei.
"Nice to see you too, Mr. Wu," said Sun Mei cautiously. "You look…"
"Like a gay pirate." Mr. Wu finished her sentence.
"Yes," Sun Mei answered with a smile. "But I mean that in the best way possible."
Her boss looked at her seriously. "I have glitter on my chest, Sun Mei. Glitter."
"It doesn't get much worse than that, does it?" Veronica said with a smirk.
Mr. Wu turned to her desperately. "Why are you doing this to me?" he asked her. "Am I not a good boss? Do I not pay you overtime or give you days off?"
Veronica laughed. "Mr. Wu, I am not doing anything to you. I am simply treating you like any other model and following the directions of the creative department. It's not my fault that you signed up for this."
"I didn't sign up for partial nudity and glitter," Mr. Wu mumbled.
"Have you not seen any of our covers before?" Veronica asked him pointedly.
"I have…" he admitted unwillingly.
"Then you knew what you were getting yourself into," she concluded. "Don't ask me to make an exception for you. This is how we've always marketed romance books. Now, go out there and try to seduce your wife."
"Ex-wife!" Sun Mei corrected her mentally.
Mr. Wu, who seemed too troubled to correct Veronica, sat down on the vanity chair and buried his face in his hands. "Just give me a moment," he told her.
"Does that also apply to me?" Sun Mei wondered.
Before she could ask for a clarification, Veronica walked out of the room swiftly and she was left alone with a half-dressed Mr. Wu.
"So what's the plot of the book?" she asked him awkwardly just to remind him that she was still there.
Mr. Wu looked up in surprise before he answered automatically, "A sexy pirate falls in love with a seductive princess and abducts her from her luxurious palace. Then, they have lots of sex and fight against some evil pirates that hold a grudge against the sexy pirate. They probably get a temporary happily ever after until the author decides to write a sequel and mess things up all over again."
Sun Mei frowned. "That sounds a lot like Pirates of the Carribean."
Mr. Wu waved his hands in exasperation. "I wish it was like Pirates of the Carribean. Then I'd get a full costume!"
"Okay, it's a steamier Pirates of the Carribean," Sun Mei concluded before thinking for a bit. "Do you at least get to hold a sword?"
"I think so…" Mr. Wu paused. "Why?"
"You could pretend it's Halloween and have some fun with it!" she said excitedly.
Mr. Wu did not seem convinced.
"Or you could pretend you are about to kill Mrs. Wu!" Sun Mei suggested. She immediately regretted saying this. "Sorry, I was joking! That was a really bad joke…"
"No, no…" Mr. Wu interrupted her apology. "That might work!"
