Soon

They all collectively decided to visit one of the buffets in town. Sun Mei, Yu Zan and Mr. Wu loved food and Lily was a picky eater, so they figured she would at least find something she liked at a rich buffet.

Unfortunately, what she loved the best was dessert. As soon as they entered the place, she made a beeline for the fried bananas.

"Lily, no! You have to eat something else first," Mr. Wu told her while pulling her back.

"Okay. Can I have fried pineapples?" Lily asked him before blinking her big round eyes.

"Nice try," said Mr. Wu. "Pick something savory. What about some noodles or fried rice?"

"Yuck!" Lily pulled a face and reached for the fried bananas again.

"Who doesn't like fried rice and noodles?" Yu Zan asked Sun Mei incredulously.

Sun Mei smiled. "She likes them just fine when there are no fried bananas around."

Yu Zan nodded in approval. "She sure has her priorities straight."

A few minutes later, when the battle for the fried bananas ended and Lily emerged victorious because Mr. Wu didn't want to hold up the line, they all sat down and enjoyed their respective meals.

"Would you like to go watch the fountain show when we are done?" Mr. Wu suggested with a smile.

"Fountain show?" Sun Mei and Yu Zan looked confused.

"Yes. One of the biggest hotels puts on a fountain show every day. They basically play music and use the hotel fountains to create a beautiful choreography."

"I want to go!" Lily said immediately.

"You cannot play in the fountain," Mr. Wu clarified.

"I still want to go!" Lily insisted.

"Okay, just setting some boundaries before it's too late."

"I'm interested," said Yu Zan curiously.

"I was in before you even explained what it was," Sun Mei added.

Mr. Wu, who was clearly happy that everyone had approved of his suggestion, got up and paid the bill happily, ignoring Yu Zan's not-so-sincere efforts to pay it instead.

The four of them exited the restaurant with full stomachs and walked lazily towards the famous hotel. Night had started to fall, so all the big hotels on the strip had turned on their dazzling lights and neon signs.

Lily tried reading the signs and failed spectacularly. However, the words she invented as she tried to read them made everyone laugh heartily.

"We are here!" Mr. Wu announced about ten minutes later before stopping in front of a hotel with a huge pool.

"Um… Nothing is happening," Sun Mei said hesitantly as she looked at the still water.

"It will soon. They just take short breaks between the shows," Mr. Wu said confidently.

"Okay."

While they waited for the show to begin, Lily started getting increasingly restless.

"Daddy, are the fountains ready yet?"

"Soon, Lily."

"How soon?"

"Sooner than it was the last time you asked me."

"Are they ready now?"

"You will see them when they are."

"But I'm short and little." Lily gestured at all the people who had gathered in front of the hotel to watch the show with them.

"That can be solved easily." Mr. Wu picked her up and set her down on his shoulders in a swift move. "Look, it's starting!"
