Two Fathers

Sun Mei did not want their time in Las Vegas to end. She felt like she was on vacation with her family, something she had rarely experienced with her actual family, as money had always been really tight.

"Do we have to leave?" she asked Yu Zan with a sigh, hugging her friend around the waist while she was trying to pack.

"Yes, you brat." Yu Zan tried to struggle out of her hold. "The longer we stay here, the more sentimental you become."

"Really?" Sun Mei raised an eyebrow in challenge. "You hugged the doorman goodbye at the casino."

"See? You are rubbing off on me! We really need some time apart."

Sun Mei laughed at her friend's dramatic way of putting things. "We are not a couple."

"But we sure sound like one."

"Girls, are you ready?" Mr. Wu asked as he knocked on their door. "We really need to get going or we'll miss the flight!"

Yu Zan grimaced. "Sometimes he sounds too much like my dad. You can have him."

"If only it was that simple." Sun Mei sighed before grinning cheekily. "Can I have your dad instead?"

Yu Zan almost choked on her own saliva. She had never expected Sun Mei to make such an inappropriate joke. She was usually way more uptight than her about these things.

"You know what, sure!" she said in the end. "I bet my mom will be glad to be rid of him."

"Really?" Sun Mei squinted at her in disbelief.

"Yes. Plus, they'll stop fighting over who was a bad influence on me and I turned out this way."

"If it was your dad, I'll pass."

"How could you reject my dad? That's so heartless of you!"

"Girls, get a move on!"

"We're coming, Mr. Wu!"

Sun Mei and Yu Zan opened the door and dragged their luggage past an anxious Mr. Wu who kept looking at his watch.

"You'll have a stroke young if you keep getting stressed over little things," Yu Zan warned him tactfully.

"How is this a little thing? We have a flight to catch!" Mr. Wu pointed out.

"Has your dad ever had a stroke?" Sun Mei asked Yu Zan as they squeezed themselves into the elevator.

"No, he doesn't care enough about anything to get stressed."

"Sounds like a prince charming."

"Who's a prince charming?" Lily, who had overheard part of their conversation, asked them.

"Yu Zan's dad," answered Sun Mei. "He sounds like real royalty."

"Is he handsome?" Lily asked Yu Zan.

"In his own way," Yu Zan replied while trying to keep a straight face. After a moment, she gave up and started laughing. "Who am I kidding? I didn't get my good looks from him!"

"Girls, if you are done chatting, I'm sure other people would like to use this elevator too!" Mr. Wu chided them before pushing his suitcase out.

"Yes, dad," Yu Zan said just loud enough for Mr. Wu to hear that she'd said something.

"What was that?" he asked.

Sun Mei elbowed Yu Zan in the gut.

"Yes, boss!" she said.
