"Are you sure she is fit to become our daughter-in-law?" Mr Townshend looked at his wife Agatha. Since he made his son become the CEO of Townshend Corporation, he had spent more of his time relaxing and travelling around the world with his wife.
"Of course she is fit to become next Mrs Townshend!" Mrs Townshend was practically squealing excitedly like a teenage girl. Mr Townshend was speechless looking at her behaviour. He shook his head ruefully.
"Let me tell you. I saw a bloodstain on the bedsheet earlier. That means she is a virgin when she had sex with our son! Oh, how excited! I always pray to God that my future daughter-in-law is pure before she gets to my son. God indeed hears my prayer." Mrs Townshend was completely elated with her own verdict.
They had waited for many years for their son to have a serious relationship. They never bothered about his flings before as they knew their son was someone that would never take advantage of the opposite gender. Hence, when both of them heard about the rumours, they even had the courtesy to rush back to the country and went straight to Jude's place just in time to catch him spending his night with a woman. A woman in his bedroom for God's sake! This was a piece of good news! At least, the long-waited moment would be just around the corner.
"What makes you so sure that our son will marry Smith's daughter?" Mr Townshend was still unconvinced with what he had heard thus far.
He would very glad if Jude getting serious with Rose Smith. He and his wife, both had nagged him for years to settle down and have his own family. He had no opinion of whoever the woman he loved, as long as he gets married and gives him grandchildren. He sighed.
"This time I'm pretty sure he will marry Smith's girl. I know my son well," Mrs Townshend was exhilarated with the fact she knew her son well than her husband. Jude once told her that he would only marry someone that he had set his heart on and to have sexual relations with marriage as the prerequisite. That was the reason she stopped nagged him about getting married.
"Old man, what do you think of the Smith's girl? I've heard she owns a bridal gallery. It is an honour and worth-mentioning accomplishment for a girl of her age despite coming from a wealthy family. A socialite with substance. Don't you think it is a good catch? " Mrs Townshend spoke with a dignity manner compared to how she had acted earlier.
Mr Townshend kept quiet and was in deep thinking. What his wife had mentioned indeed correct. At the least, this Smith's girl can help his son too. He had been wary of the women that usually threw themselves onto his son all this while. It was fortunate that his son didn't bother about those cheap women. Oh well, he is a Townshend indeed. A perfect gene!
The two of them looked at the youngsters that just came down from upstairs.
Mrs Townshend quickly gestured to Rose to sit next to her. Rose glanced at Jude and after Jude gave her an assurance look, she walked towards Mrs Townshend before sat elegantly, befitting her nature as a socialite.
Mrs Townshend held her hands, a motherly smiled plastered on her face that made Rose feel a little at ease.
"Look at you. What a beauty!"
"Uh... Thanks for the compliment, ma'am. You're a beauty too." Rose flushed by the compliment given.
"My... My... You sure are sweet. How old are you? Forgive me to ask you this kind of question. But judging from your face and skin, I reckon you're in your mid-twenties?" Jude who listened to his mother had his lips curved upward. His mother indeed had good eyes. She could guess things accurately most of the time.
"I'm twenty-three this year," Rose answered her with a girlish smile that unknowingly made Jude become even more in love with her. Mr Townshend was stunned. Twenty-three? He stared at Jude as if asking him what had he did? The Smith's girl was too young!
"Ah... Just nice, though it might be too young for my Jude here." she looked at her son dearly before turned her eyes back to Rose. She took her Hermes handbag and took a ruby red box out of it then casually opened the box. There, an exquisite and elegant diamond ring was gloriously placed. Rose was slightly taken aback while Jude was speechless. He had never thought his mother would go beyond his expectation and brought along a diamond ring to give to her future daughter-in-law.
"It is Townshend's family tradition to give a future daughter-in-law a gift as a sign of part of the family," she slid the ring on Rose's ring finger and gently hugged her before she continued to say, "Welcome to the family, Rose. "
This time Rose was utterly flabbergasted at how things had progressed. Firstly, she spent a night with Jude, whom she had only met for a few times. Secondly, she admitted that she had incredible sexual experiences with Jude, whom she actually barely knows the ins and outs of him, but still, she did it anyway. And the next thing she knew, she was welcomed to Townshend's family and was acknowledged as Townshend's daughter-in-law! Goodness!!! She was overwhelmed that she couldn't speak.
Seeing her in awkward and stunned, Jude stood and changed his seat by sitting next to her. He put his arm on her shoulder and gently squeezed them to reassure her that everything will be okay. Rose smiled politely though deep inside, only God knew how chaotic it was! She never expected the Townshends would directly acknowledge her as a daughter-in-law!
Sensing the awkwardness that Rose might experience, Jude sprung to his feet, extended his hand to Rose, gestured her to follow him.
"Mom, dad. We are leaving for works. See you two soon!" Jude then left with Rose by his side, leaving the two elders.
"Please come back for dinner later!" Mr Townshend reminded him. Jude nodded his head.
Mr and Mrs Townshend seemed to be satisfied with their son's choice. They really wished the lovebirds to get married as soon as possible!
"I like her!" Mrs Townshend commented with a smile on her face.
"Ah... I think it's about time for me to visit my old comrade. I wanted to brag about how my son managed to attract his daughter!" Mr Townshend laughed heartily as he tried to imagine Mr James Smith's expression when he learnt about the truth.
"Jude is my son too. Without me, there will be no Jude," Mrs Townshend reminded him.
Mr Townshend looked askance at his wife.
"Yeah... Yeah... He is our son. Stop being petty over this kind of matter." He held his wife's hand and together they walked out the house to visit their old friends.
