"Captain," Tony walked swiftly towards Jude who was busying wiped Rose's skin with the wet tissues before applying some moisturizer on her skin.
Tony bowed slightly at him once he reached him and briefly glanced at his boss, waiting for him to turn to him.
"Did you find the cause, the real culprit?" his voice was stern, devoid emotion. He didn't even look at Tony who stood stoically next to him.
"Yes, we did. The Caucasian finally relented after the tedious ordeal. He said he was sent by someone named Erwin Chen. But we believed it was not the real name since we couldn't find that name on the database. So Paul had searched through their company's database, and this is what came out," Tony passed him the folder.
Jude swiftly took the folder from him and directly opened it to browse the report. Brows furrowed as his expression darkened. Sarah Chen? The secretary? He glanced at Tony, frowning. Tony took a deep breath before he explained further.
"Sarah had been worked as the secretary for the late Mr Gregory, then for Mr George before she works for madam. And she has a brother named Edwin Chen, who is on the run from the authorities, as he is wanted for fraud and scam,"
"She must work for someone else. Investigate her thoroughly. And…" he paused for a while before asking Tony, "Mr Gregory? Who was he?" He was totally bewildered. He had never heard of Gregory before. Now, there's someone else dragged into the picture. It seemed the Smith family had dark secret and he believed Rose had no idea about it.
"Gregory was the eldest son of Smith, madam's elder brother," Tony replied. There was hesitation in his voice because he didn't know how to explain this part to his captain. There were so much more to the Smith family that they have yet to know. Gregory Smith, for one.
"Oh?" Jude raised his left eyebrow, looked at Tony with interest. Eldest son of the Smith, and was a deceased. After the eldest son, the second son and now the young lady of Smith. He looked at Rose who was lied on the patient bed, seemingly having a peaceful sleep. He trailed his fingers along her jawline before they stopped at her paled lips.
"Gregory had passed away five year ago… What made it worth the doubt was he died on the same day with the late Mr John, only earlier a slighter bit from him…" this time Jude surprised when he heard him. He looked at Tony, waiting for him to continue his findings. Seeing that his captain was waiting, Tony cleared his throat.
"They were practically died on the same day, and at the same venue. It was underground car park of Marriot Hotel," Tony studied his captain's expression before he continued to say, "I believe their deaths were related to each other. You can read about the way Gregory and John died and decide this assumption."
"Help me to arrange a meeting with my father-in-law. Ask him to go to Imperial Hotel. We will have a lot to talk about," he said in the end. Tony bowed his head and simply walked away, leaving Jude alone with the unconscious Rose on the bed.
Clasped his own fingers with hers, Jude sighed heavily. Honey, there were so much things that I would like to ask you. For example, your eldest brother, Gregory. Why did you never tell me about him? Why was that? Please stay strong for me honey… Please...
He covered his face with his palms and heaved a sigh. God! There was so much to think of, so many secrets to uncover, and so many lives at stakes. He looked at the folder that Tony had brought earlier and slowly took the folder and read through the contents.
The deaths of his brother, John and Mr. Gregory Smith were at the same venue. Marriot Hotel. But Mr. Gregory's death was a little earlier than his brother's with six minutes and forty-five seconds apart. Jude frowned. When he received the news back then, it was not disclosed in the report there was another death apart from his brother. Same bullets? They were murdered by the same assassin? But they made believe there must be a witness to witness to scene as they found a hair clip in his brother's Maybach back then. They tried to find her, but no one knew the mysterious girl.
And on his end, he had tried to unravel the mysteries behind his brother's death for years. Every time he had the leads, he would back to square that left him frustrated for so long. Now, a new lead surfaced. What was the relationship between these two? Why would people target their lives? It seemed he needed to go back to Townshend's residential.
He glanced at his watch. Still got the time to rush back and take a look at John's room. He leaned forward and planted a kiss on Rose's forehead before he walked off.
Townshend's Residential.
"You're back?" Mrs. Townshend was surprised to see her son came back home after so long. He had not come back after for so long that she couldn't recall the last time he was home. Mr. Smith looked at his son, smiled bitterly.
"Jude, you really need to get yourself stay strong, son. Only then you can help Rose to find the culprit," He voice was soft, tinted with fatherly love. Jude didn't answer him, he only nodded his head as his tacit agreement. Right after that he directly went off to the room that used to be John's bedroom. Both his parents were surprised to see him to enter that particular room. All these while, he never stepped into that room. Not after his brother's death. What made him to go there tonight? The two of them exchanged glances and frowned. Mrs. Townshend quickly went over too, to see what was her son up to.
Once he stepped into the room, his eyes skimmed and scanned the room before he walked towards the high bookshelf. He casually took one of the boxes on the top of the shelf and brought it to the bed. Taking a deep breath to steady his own heartbeat, he slowly opened the box and took out John's phone. Though it had been checked before this, but he needed to double check the phone this time. There must be something that can lead him to his brother's murderer.
Mrs. Townshend who was stood at the doorway was surprised to see him to take out the phone. She swiftly walked towards him and gently patted his shoulder before she took a seat next to him.
"What is it? Tell mom. Maybe I can help you too," her voice shook upon looking at John's photos on the wall. Her motherly instinct had telling her how unfair for her second son to die untimely. And yesterday she received the news of her unborn grandchild. She was devastated, but she knew she had to wait again. Sighed…
"I want to investigate brother's death, personally this time," Mrs. Smith gasped. She looked at her son, disbelieving of what she had heard. She grabbed his hands with her trembled hands, eyes widen.
"It's too risky Jude," she paused and looked dejected. Her voice shook when she expressing her thought to her only son, "I also wanted to know the truth behind his death, but it is too dangerous. Your dad had tried to seek help from his friends in forensics and police alike, but they ended up failed to find the legit lead. We were only told there was another murder that night. That was all that they told us and when we asked about it, they didn't disclose the news. Jude, I don't want to risk my only son to solve the mystery behind John's death. You're the only Townshend's heir. Please think it through. But, if you are determined to investigate this, I will support you through and through."
"Your mom and I will support you. I guess it's about time we put this matter at rest," Mr. Townshend chimed in. he walked towards the mother and son duo before he seated next to his son, patted gently on his thigh with a bitter smile.
