With all the wires attached to her petite body, Leah sobbed uncontrollably on Jeremy's shoulder upon looking at the way her best friend's current state. She had never anticipated that even after almost a week since the unfortunate event, Rose laid still on the bed, unconscious. Jeremy could only offer her some friendly gestures, offering his shoulders for her to cry on, his hugs should she needed someone to vent her frustration. He was more than willing. But deep inside, he was extremely devastated. Rose was his lady boss and soon, they would become family. But, unforeseen circumstances happened and he was one of the many who grief for her lucks.
"Why is she still unconscious? I miss to talk to her, Jay… I miss her laughter…" She lamented, choked in her own tears. Jeremy sighed. He also had no idea of the reason. He was not a doctor after all. He diverted his gaze on his uncle Jude.
He wanted to ask, but… He had no idea how to approach his uncle about it. Their wedding supposedly to be held in five days. Based on the situation at hand, it was completely impossible. He felt sorry for his uncle because he knew, his uncle Jude had been looking forward the day he gave Rose a proper title – his rightful wife.
In the meantime, Jude, who was constantly holding Rose's hands stood abruptly. He leaned forward and pressed the button to call the doctors and nurses. Samuel rushed in in a short while and this had caused the teary Leah and Jeremy to be fully cautious. Both of them held their breath and glanced towards Rose, full of concern.
On the bed, eyes opened wide, her mouth opened slightly and she moved her fingers. Her forehead scrunched into three lines. Grimacing while gasping for air. Tears suddenly strolled down her cheeks. Unrestraint. Her face paler ten-fold than it had already been. Samuel checked her pulse, her eyes and blood pressure. He sighed in relief. He then took off the oxygen mask and put it aside.
Rose slowly closed her teary eyes before she opened them again. She looked at everyone around her and suddenly overwhelmed by the sight. There was a slight uncomfortable sight in her eyes that she felt a sudden intense feeling swelling deep in her heart. Samuel stepped to the side and gave Jude the opportunity to come closer to her. When Jude held her hands, she blinked her eyes.
"Jo…" her voice croaking and she found it difficult to speak. She looked at the plain water and gulped down her saliva. Leah, who saw this quickly brought her a glass of water and dropped a few drops on her lips. Rose looked at her, appreciated her kindness. But the way she looked made Leah shuddered. It was as if… she was a stranger? She looked at Jeremy with a puzzled look.
"Jo…ohn." the room fell silent all of sudden. The sudden chill began to crept in and down each of their spine. Except… Jude. His face darkened. Why is she suddenly called him John? It was then he remembered about what had he found days before. Was it true they were dating before?
The soft yet cold fingers tugged at his own fingers. He looked at how she held his fingers and sighed. He sat on the edge of the bed, holding her hands. She smiled. Taking her right hand from his hands, she slowly raised it and touched his cheeks, slowly. When her hand stopped right next to his lips, a sudden surged of pain strike her head that she gripped his hand with her left hand while another held her head.
Samuel quickly pushed Jude to the side and checked her vital signs, again. He urged the nurse to prepare sodium chloride flush and swiftly injected it into her IV catheter.
"What happen to her?" Jude asked. His heart beat frantically and he could help but frowned when he recalled the way she was when she had her headache.
"Most probably due to her head trauma and, I'm afraid it has to do with the seizure," Samuel remarked. Jude's jaw taut and he clenched his hand nervously. He took a deep breath and slowly calmed down his heart before he approached Rose once again. He gently patted her head with a heavy heart deep inside him. He felt helpless and the intense feeling swelled up in his heart made him breathless. But he knew he needed to be strong. Only then he could survive this ordeal and helped her.
"Ple…is… he...lp…" the weak voice snapped him back to the reality and he quickly turned to her.
"Honey… Shh…Rest," he hushed her and caressed her face lovingly. Rose slowly closed her eyes whilst her chest heaved. Whenever she closed her eyes, all that she saw was how Gregory and John were killed. She flung opened her eyes and her hands in Jude's were trembled.
There's not much that could be done, hence, Jude gently squeezed her hands and smiled encouragingly.
"I'm always here for you, Honey. Please rest, alright?" He planted a light kiss on her forehead that miraculously sent a serenity into her soul while his deep cello voice penetrated deeply into her heart that helped to sooth her chaotic heart at the moment.
Seeing her closed her eyes and fell into slumber, Jude sighed.
"Uncle… You need to rest too…" Jeremy approached him and lightly patted his shoulder.
"I agree with your cousin. Please Jude, at least you take some fresh air outside for a few moments before you come back and accompany her. I'll stay here to watch over her for you. Now, go! Let her rest," Samuel casually dragged him out and sent him off together with Jeremy and Leah.
Once they stepped outside, Jude paused in his track, both hands in his pockets while raised his head up to stare into the darkness of the sky. Thousands thought swirled in his head. From the day he found the new lead to John's death to today's incident where Rose suddenly called 'John', he adamantly sure there must something between them. Was it really pure coincidence?
Jeremy walked to his side. Sighed.
"Uncle, at least she's conscious now, which means everything is okay. You really need to have some rest," Jeremy still trying his luck to convince his uncle Jude. Jude cast a glance at him, briefly before he stared beyond him.
"You don't have to worry. Go, send Leah back. It's not good to let her to wait for you now, is it?" He casually remarked. Jeremy's lips twitched. That's more like his suave uncle. He nodded his head and simply walked away, leaving Jude alone at the hospital entrance.
