Chapter 1

The Sun shines,

the fog blinds,

together they make,

a rainbow in the sky.

The Moon stares,

into a lake,

and wonders why,

he's a big mistake.

Why can't he be the Sun,

and light up the day.

Why can't he be the one,

to make the bad go away.

Why can't he be the light,

that brightens everyones day.

Instead he sits in the night,

wishing the Sun would go away.

The Moon glows,

the stars show,

a pattern of love,

that lights the Earth below.

To himself,

the Sun confides,

that he wishes,

he controlled the tides.

Why can't he be the Moon,

and turn darkness into light.

Why can't he be the one,

to light up the great night.

Why can't he have the grace,

of being with the stars.

Instead he sits up in space,

wishing he could take his place.

But what they both don't know is,

they need each other.

What they both don't know is,

that they are brothers.

We live in jealousy,

envying each other.

Please, just be thankful,

and happy for others.

The Sun needs the Moon,

to keep the night lit bright.

The Moon needs the Sun,

to produce his shining light.

The Sun needs the Moon,

and the Moon needs the Sun.

If they work together,

they can be one.

If they work together,

they can be one.

if they work together,

they will be one.

If we work together,

we could be one.

If we work together,

we will be one.

Day and night. A transition that seems so seamless and natural that one would never think of one without the other. It's a never ending cycle of the rise and fall of the Sun and the Moon. Our land and people thrive on it. It sets our routines.

I, like everybody else, also follow a daily routine. I go to classes at my university, go to work at the local Walmart, hang out with friends when I have free time, etc.

However, the only difference is, I had some sort of insomnia. I could never sleep before 5 am. I don't even feel tired until then.

It was convenient sometimes, for studying or working late night shifts, but it would be nice to not have to sleep in till the afternoon every day.

My friends have never understood my weird circadian rhythm, but it's also convenient for them since me never getting tired also meant I was up for late night shenanigans.

Tonight was just like every other night. It was 2 am and I felt the most productive I had been for the past 12 hours. I just finished studying for my French 2002 oral exam, my room was clean and semi-organized, and now I could veg out and watch a movie till I fall asleep. I just needed to pick one...curse my slight indecisiveness.

I was in the middle of the movie when I felt a shift in the air. I started to get this empty feeling like something was missing, but I had no clue what it was. I shrugged it off, deciding to confront the feeling when I was more awake. I dozed off to sleep….

"Kamaria...Kamaria….wake up my daugther.."

My eyes opened up slowly to the darkness of my room. Who called my name? I sit up and look at my phone. 12:52 pm. I blinked, turned off my phone screen and turned it back on again. 12:53 pm. I looked around my room confused. It couldn't be almost 1 pm! It was still dark outside.

"Kamaria…"

I heard the voice again calling my name. At the end of my bed stood a dark figure with long white hair. I almost screamed, but it was like my voice was trapped in my throat.

"Do not fear my daughter for I am you and you are me."

The few candles I had in my room were lit simultaneously. My eyes darted in confusion as the light from the candles made the figure show itself to be a woman. She had long white hair with two braids framing her face. Her eyes were shut close like she was sleeping, but her soft, warm smile said otherwise.

"Who are you..?" I asked, finally gathering my thoughts enough to where I could speak.

"I am who they call Night personified. The goddess Nyx. You, my daugther, are my next reincarnation."

Goddess? Reincarnation? What is she talking about? I'm just a college student.

"You are more than what you seem to be my daughter. Your time has come to take my place as this world's goddess of the night."

It was like she read my mind...or probably my face. I couldn't hide my emotions very well.

"What do you mean to take your place? Why now?"

"The world is in grave danger. Someone has stolen the day and kidnapped Apollo, your twin brother. Now the world will be without the sun or daytime. Only you who can survive the darkness of night can help him."

"My WHO?!"

"Take this stone. It carries all the power you will need on your journey. Be cautious. Not everything is what it seems at night, bad or good. Good luck my daughter."

Then she vanished in black smoke.

Holy shit.
