[Einar POV]
----------------------------------------
"Yo, pretty crazy stuff we are hearing, right?" said Gerd no hiding his emotions.
"Hello Brother Gerd, Sister Elin" greeted Nilsa.
"Yeah, it's amazing" I said.
"Hello Einar and Nilsa" greeted back Elin.
"Ok, ok, you just met yesterday. To know the next part follow me" Rensor said.
Not waiting for us, father and the Patriarch started to walk away. No wanting to be left behind, we followed them.
"Where are you taking us, old man?" asked Gerd.
"Brat!! I´m your father…. Just follow me" Rensor replied.
We moved from the lake area to the west side of the valley and started to climb one side of the mountains. There is no path and the way is full of danger, one wrong step and anybody could fall through the cliff.
As we continue climbing, we arrived at a small natural balcony. I could see the entire valley from it. The giant lake in the middle of the valley, the village near it, the cultivated fields, the mountains on the east, south and the ones behind us. To the north I could see the entrance to the marsh.
"Wow!!! It´s beautiful" exclaimed both girls at the same time. They looked to each other and giggled.
"Amazing view, I bet that I can see a better one if I climb all the way up" said Gerd.
"Idiot, haven´t you learn that in the higher areas of the mountains are vicious beasts?" retorted his father.
I didn´t say anything, just enjoy the view and the tranquility I was experiencing. Father was the same, just looking but I could tell there was something in his look, as he was preoccupied by something.
"What is dad?" I asked.
"Nothing… Just recalling the time when the mountains had snow"
"Isn´t it supposed that they melted a long, long, long time ago?" asked Gerd.
"Yeah, is not that I saw it but my grand-parent told me how it looked when he was just a kid"
"Ohh… I guess it was nice"
"Yes"
"Ok, you have rested enough, lets continue" Rensor said.
"Old man, can´t you see we are enjoying the view?"
"You brat!! Where is the respect towards your father!!"
"I guess I left it back home..."
"You!!!" "Aghhh… ok let's continue, we don´t have all day" he said giving up on his son.
We continue our climbing for another two hours until arriving to a cave entrance. If it wasn´t because Rensor told us, we would have just continue climbing. It was hard to see as it was camouflage by rocks and was located on a blind point of view.
Entering the cave, I felt Nilsa hugging me due to the cold. I hugged her back as I put my arm on her waist. Elin saw this and tried to do the same, but Gerd was just interested on the cave. Seems that Elin also wants to feel the affection of her fiancé. Not having the result, she wanted, she gave up and instead took my other arm. I was surprised by her action.
"Hope you don´t mind, it is just too cold" she said trying to get some attention from Gerd.
"…."
"How can you be cold? You could have used your energy to warm up" said Gerd in confusion.
"I´m sorry for you, sister Elin" Nilsa commented.
"Ahhh, me too. He is just a dense in these types of matters" she muttered back to my sister.
I didn´t comment or do anything. From one side it would have been rude if I just shove her out and, I didn´t have feelings for her. She was just like big sister that take care of us and enjoys spending time with us. She appeared when it was just Nilsa and me so, I´m thankful that she can be there for us as Nilsa can also have someone to talk beside her family members.
Anyway, as we continue walking inside the cave, we arrive at an opening that had multiples paths.
"Be more careful from here on, there are many paths here and you could get lost easily" explained Rensor as he led the way into the left path.
Going through many crossings, we arrived at an inner cave that was man-made. The Patriarch and father stood in front of the entrance and after nodding to each other, they performed a serial of hand seals while liberating their powers.
We could feel how powerful they were as the cave started to tremble. Some seconds later it stopped and, a faint light shone before disappearing.
Then, as we entered the inner cave, our eyes opened wide as we saw an altar made of stone and some precious ores. There were also six small columns with strange symbols surrounding the altar and, in the middle stood a dark purple orb.
"What is this?!?!" we all asked.
"This is an altar left by one of the elders that survived the purge of our race" answered Rensor.
"What purge?"
"Remember that we told you that we went outside the valley in an attempt to expand our domain by order of the Patriarch of that time and that almost everybody went? Well after many events, only a few of our race survived. And one of the survivors was an elder or our race. Before passing, he left an inheritance for the next Patriarch here" dad answered this time.
"What you mean?"
"We can´t answer. You have to see it for yourselves"
"How?"
"Sit down in the altar and place your energies on the orb. Whatever you feel or see is just a memory. Don´t lose your mind or will, otherwise you will die"
Looking to each other, we nodded and sat down on the altar. I gave Nilsa a last look before placing my energy on the orb.
Suddenly, I felt my mind going blank and hurting a lot.
The moment I was able to open my eyes, I saw a group of people around me discussing.
"Patriarch, please reconsider. We cannot leave the valley" an elder said.
"Nonsense, just because you saw our extermination through a vision doesn't mean is going to happen" another elder replied.
"Patriarch, we all know that the visions of the 4th elder are most of the times true. We can´t afford to gamble this time" I said.
"8TH elder, you said yourself, "most of the times are true"" another voice replied.
"Yeah, how can we let this opportunity go away? We have lived in prosperity for a long time and our numbers have increased to the time when we fought those creatures. Its time to leave this valley and conquer the continent.
Everybody here heard and saw the memories of the exploration member. With our strength how can we lose" an elder said. He was the first elder.
"Silence!! The Patriarch had just decided. We will follow his lead and orders. We are the free race. How can we stay in this place forever?" the Grand-elder asked angry.
"That´s right, we are the free race and our strength is enough to conquer the continent as there are few who could oppose use according to the reports" a female elder said.
"Matriarch?" my wife asked.
"We are going to go. No more questioning" the Matriarch answered as she showed her support to her husband.
Not having more opportunities to persuade the rest, everything was settled down. From that day onwards, our race started to get ready. For one year we saved food, forged weapons, cultivated and finally, that day arrived.
No matter what we did, we left the valley in our way to conquer the continent.
