After speaking a few words, Xiu Mei quickly felt a pang of pain on her head. She let out a faint groan, alarming her family members instantly.
Her brother was just about to exit the room to call for the doctor again when they finally heard a knock on the door. An elegant man in a white robe and black spectacles entered the room. Holding a tablet on his hand, he approached her bed with such elegance you'd doubt his occupation as a doctor if it wasn't for his white robe.
"Ms. Xiu, how are you feeling?" He opened, as he gestured to the nurse with him to take a quick look at her current condition with the usual stuff.
"My head's a bit painful, and my body aches quite a bit like I just finished some kind of extreme exercise and pulled some of my muscles. Aside from that, I guess everything's pretty normal." She honestly told her doctor.
She watched him push his glasses with his index finger before he typed on his tablet, recording whatever she said. Xiu Mei couldn't help but stare at the doctor in front of her as she felt some familiarity with this person.
Where did she meet this person before?
"Ah!"
Fudge, what was that?!
After being startled by the sudden injection the nurse had done to her, she couldn't help but glare a little bit at the person however she didn't look scary at all with her pale-ish face that looked more pitiful instead of scary.
She bit her lip as she grumbled. Would it hurt them to warn herself first that they're going to take some of her blood?
The doctor continued a series of tests for her to do to confirm whether her head injury had caused some other consequences aside from probably losing some of her brain cells.
A few minutes later, the doctor called her parents and her brother to leave the room. Xiu Mei couldn't help but think that whatever the result was, it probably didn't look good. If it wasn't, why did the doctor have to discuss her current diagnosis outside her room?
Lu Qiang being a good and matured child he was, noticed the depressed look on her mother's face. He quickly took hold of her mother's hand and beamed a smile at her, hoping to lighten up her expression.
"Mom, I'll take care of you until you get better!" He exclaimed before he let go of her hands and walked towards a nearby table where a pitcher of water and some glasses sat. With his small hands, he gently leaned over the pitcher shakily, with some water spilling out.
After almost filling it up to the brim, Lu Qiang flashed a smile of triumph. He praised himself in his mind for doing such a good job as he held the glass with both hands and slowly approached her mother's bed carefully not letting it spill over.
"Thank you, dear." Xiu Mei almost laughed at the innocent look of Lu Qiang, who she can read quite well right now than before. She patted his head with great difficulty before accepting the glass of water Lu Qiang had worked hard to give her.
After finishing the whole glass, she handed it back to the kid who quickly placed it back on the table.
Xiu Mei and Lu Qiang were in their own little world that they failed to notice the other big block of ice that have been staying inside the room all along. Lu Chen watched as his son stayed at his secretary's bedside the moment he was brought to the hospital.
The little guy never left his mom's side as he would faintly cry out her name as Xiu Mei continued to sleep.
Who would've thought that Xiu Mei would wake up when he and Xiu Mo Ruo was discussing the attempted kidnapping. Lu Chen was even more frustrated when he noticed that Xiu Mei looked like she hadn't seen him at all inside the room and just kept her focus at the people who were surrounding her.
And now, Lu Chen's expression grew even grimmer as Xiu Mei continued to ignore his presence even with just the three of them left inside the room. He almost questioned whether his presence wasn't big enough that Xiu Mei kept missing his presence at the other side of the room.
Lu Chen decisively approached Xiu Mei's bed, who was busy chatting and whispering with the little son of his. He patted Xiu Mei's head, gently placing his hand on the bandaged wound around her head.
This action of his frightened Xiu Mei, her head turning to look at the other side. She raised her head and stared at the dark pool of eyes that was now gently peering at her.
"Mr.Lu?"
"Hmm."
He… is here.
Xiu Mei felt her heart skipping a beat as she continued to stare back at Lu Chen. Awhile ago, she was still wondering whether she had been hallucinating in desperation before she lost her consciousness. She thought she was hallucinating in hearing Lu Chen's voice desperately calling out her name for a few more times.
She grew even slightly disappointed that she didn't saw him at all by her bed awhile ago but now, she realized that she was wrong.
"I…" She opened her mouth to start but Lu Chen had cut first to it.
"You're such a handful." Lu Chen suddenly blurted out surprising Xiu Mei with his words.
"What?"
"You're a handful, my wife."
"..."
Xiu Mei's mouth opened and closed repeatedly as if she was trying to say something but she didn't know where and how to start her words. She was too speechless that she wasn't sure to which she was actually speechless to—her being called a handful or being called 'my wife'.
