An unexpected surprise

According to Lucy, she and her sister had been living in a first floor apartment of a small apartment building, located in one of the cheaper rural areas of the city.

If Lucy's assumptions were right, her sister sould have still been at home at the time the Blackout hit. Although Jason didn't quite believe that Lucy's sister was still alive, he still kept his opinion to himself, as he knew that he couldn't just turn Lucy away. For one, Jason had nothing urgent to do besides surviving, and on the ither hand he had reflected on his initial reaction to Lucy's hope, and he knew that it was too harsh to simply explain to her that her sister was unlikely to be alive. So he held his tongue and drove, although they passed a lot of zombies and carnage, there were very few zombies who even glanced at the vehicle and none that gave chase.

These low-rank zombies were already too occupied with their respective feasts to go chasing a moving vehicle, which to them did not

seem to contain any food. These Rank-0 zombies were almost completely mindless, relying solely on primitive instinct and diminished senses of sight and smell. Jason had a calm attitude as he manuevered the large vehicle past abandoned and "occupied" cars of multiple sizes. At one point they passed a large silver-colored public bus, which had obviously had a few immune people at the start, but unfortunately for them there had probably been far too many infected. Mark had been staring out the window with a grim look, and at times his expression changed to a terrified expression, before swiftly going back to grim surprise. Although Jason knew exactly how his brother felt, he didn't interfere because he knew that this was best dealt with without outside help. Following Lucy's directions the three of them saw fewer and fewer zombies until the surroundings seemed dead quiet, almost dead quiet. Asking Lucy how much further her sisters house was, Jason contemplated why there were no zombies in the vicinity. Lucy told him that the house was just a little further down the current street, to the right into XX Street, and then it was the third block on the right. As they drew closer Jason began to have a bad premonition. Something felt very wrong, and surprisingly he was correct, as the apartment building had been surrounded by nearly 80 zombies. Feeling cold sweat running down his back, he turned around to tell Lucy that there was, no way for them to get close to the house. But seeing her pitiful look, he was reminded of his own memories, hadn't he himself lost Mark in his previous life? Steeling his resolve he backed a bit further away from the house, and told Mark to change seats with him.

Although Mark felt puzzled he still waited for Jason to get out of the car, before moving over to the drivers seat. Moving over to the passenger side Jason opened the door and went back in, with a grim look he told Lucy, that there was only one way to get in and look for her sister. With an expectant look Lucy waited for him to elaborate.

Taking a deep breath, Jason explained how Lucy herself would have to open the back door of the car, and try to lure the zombies towards the car, and Mark would have drive slowly enough for the zombies to follow the car. Although Lucy was terrified she still agreed, wishing Jason luck she then sat back down to wait for the brothers to finish talking. "Are you nuts, Jason? I didn't understand why you would reject her earlier, but now that I've seen the situation, I think we should give up. Even if there were only eight of these..... zombies, now that I've seen their capability I think it would still be suicide, but this.... there are 76 zombies there Jason, this is IMPOSSIBLE"

Waiting for Mark to finish Jason remained unfazed before saying "We've already come this far, we should at least try. Lure the zombies away and meet me in front of the building in 30 minutes". After saying what he needed to say, Jason gave his brother no chance to reply before jumping back out of the camper, and sneaking as close to the 4 story house. Almost immediately after Jason reached a point where felt that going further would expose him to the infected, he heard the sound of the campers engine. However none of the zombies showed any sign of movement, but Jason waited patiently for his brother to find a good method to lure the zombies away. It felt like a long time before the zombies turned their infected headsbalmost in complete unison, and started to shamble away at differing speeds. It didnt take long before only decapacitated zombies were left, because even though zombies were incapable of running, they still managed to walk pretty well. Brandishing his pistol Jason managed to sneak past the remaining zombies and get to the door, but when he tried to open it, the door didn't budge. It was locked from the inside, which meant that there was a survior or even survivors in one or more of the apartments. Thankfully Lucy told him that there was a small box with a passcode at the side containing a spare key mostly used by delivery services, the apartment residents all had the code too. Entering the code Lucy gave him Jason heard an audible click and the front with the number buttons opened, giving him access to the key. Unlocking the front door Jason entered swiftly before locking the door again. He was stanring in front of a small staircase, and to each side was an apartment. Jason walked right up to the door on the left and found that it was unlocked, so he swiftly entered. Upon entering he found a long serrated knife to be pointed right at his throat. Looking at the holder of the knife Jasons eyes widened as he said with surprise "Sandra!?". Seeming to not notice his surprise the lady lowered her guard a little and asked "Yeah, how do you know my name and who are you?"

Jason wasn't certain if this was the sister that Lucy told him about, as Lucy never mentioned her name, but he had met this lady briefly in his past life. Taking the risk Jason told her that Lucy asked him to help find Sandra, and fortunately he guessed correctly because this really was Lucy's sister. Putting her guard down Sandra asked frantically "Where's Lucy? Is she okay?". Jason told her about the situation and asked her to take the things she and her sister needed before Mark came back, because they would need to make a speedy retreat. Nodding Sandra ran back in and began packing as fast as she could, while Jason walked to the apartment doors on every floor and repeated the same sentence "If you're alive and unwilling to stay here, come out now".

It proved to be a futile effort however as nobody replied, so Jason went back downstairs from the top floor, finding Sandra ready to go. There were about 28 minutes since the zombies left so Mark should be back very soon, therefore Jason motioned Sandra to follow him to the front ofthe building. The place was zombie free, and sure enough Mark pulled over less than 2 minutes later. Mark moved back into the front passengers seats, while Sandra entered through the back, and Jason occupied the drivers seat once again. Now that they had somehow gotten two extra passengers, the food that they had would not last very long, therefore the next stop would have to be for resources.
