The species list was quite short, showing me the main races with a drop-down menu for more specific races. It included Humans, Half-humans,Monsters, Animals, Elves, Dwarves, Undead, Aliens, and such. There were select classes that were allowed for specific races so players had to be careful in their choices or else they would have to start over again by scrapping their character and making a new one. There are other hidden races that players can find throughout the game and people are allowed to change their characters through specific channels but they have a level penalty for that.
I thought about my priorities. I need to treat this as my only life, so I need to have two things: the ability to survive and potential. I can't have one without the other. I need to survive but if I only survive, what's the point of living? If I can grow strong but can't live long enough, then I would die, simple as that. I set up a filter for my requirements and I ended up with two species that fit my criteria: Humans and Slimes. I checked the Human character sheet first and it introduced it to me.
Humans: The main species among the worlds that make up the galaxy of Mystic Lands. They start off weak and loosely balanced but with their growth potential, which is really extensive, are able to specialize in any field they like. Their intelligence and wisdom allows them to work out problems, grow exponentially and rise to the top of their world. The only problem with this race is that their bodies and inherently fragile, with only magic and their weak self-recovery capability, which is much weaker than animals and other races, to heal. Losing any part of their body will severely affect their lifestyle.
Starting Benefits: Beginning equipment
Eh, this is kind of worrying. I'm not sure if I'm part of the game but I feel like that glitch thing won't be happy if I just showed up in front of my friends from my human life and asked them to regenerate my arm when I get hurt. I'll hold my judgement after I read the character sheet for Slimes.
Slimes: The typical starter monsters that are prey to most of the creatures in the world. However, they make it up with their ability to split up, mimic whatever prey they consume. That allows them to use a multitude of skills once they grow enough. This allows them to potentially to be the strongest and weakest species at once. Their weaknesses are their fragile body, the time it takes for them to change their body, and their slow movement speed.
Starting Skills: Separation Lv 1.
Mimic Lv. 1
Consume Lv. 1
Mana Sense Lv. 1
Starting Disabilities: No skills available*
*Skill growth depends on prey consumed
Wow. Just wow. This has put me in a pickle. Humans start off weak but have a better starting line compared to slimes but slimes have a greater capacity for growth. Slimes have no sight or sound and have to consume prey to be able to mimic it. People playing as Humans could utilize more of their capabilities at the start but slimes are stuck eating things for growth. Also, the guide said people playing as monsters have some disadvantages. Players as monsters can't communicate with humans until they grow vocal cords capable of human speech, like Arachne or Nagas, because there is no text messaging. It's all speech communication and no one can understand growls, hissing, purring, or snapping due to the auto translations translating human language. My Mimic skill can nullify that if I can get a body of something that can talk. I will have to get used to not having eyes or ears for the moment, relying on touch and any other method of detection slimes have.
However, monster players can also be killed for experience. There are no tags above anything, requiring players to explore and examine everything and not have them rely too much on the system for everything. For that, it is unfair for players to be penalized for PKing when there are no way of identifying them as players. I can avoid that with my Separation skill, though, keeping at least two bodies to avoid dying that quickly. These two choices were very attractive but I feel I would grow stronger at a quicker pace if I chose Slime over Human. So after choosing my race, I looked toward the screen talking about my starting location.
