Broken Perspective

Buggy and Zoro came up the deck and was surprised to see just Luffy on there. He has a stack of newspapers while reading one himself. Buggy, with a questioning voice, "Is that all the papers from all the seas?" "All the seas?" Zoro questioned Buggy's question. Buggy turns to Zoro and explains, "Not all news is relevant to other seas, so, they only printout and give the news to where it is relevant. For example, the east blue will only give out the news that is needed to spread out in the east blue. Of course, like our captain there," points a finger at Luffy, "you can subscribe to the news from the other seas and get them." Buggy starts to walk towards Luffy and grabs a newspaper that has the headline "Eustas Kidd Wanted: Dead or Alive" (IDK if it's canon though, just wanted to make a certain divide in info. Of course, big news like yonko or the revolutionary army or anything along those lines is spread out. Aside from those, different seas have different news.)

Zoro just shrugs and draws his sword and just practices swings. Buggy suddenly remembers something and looks at Luffy. "Where's the girl? I saw her get up and went up here. I don't know what she did but she wasn't below deck, she wasn't in the washroom either cause I went there earlier." "From 4 in the morning, I made her clean the entire deck. And because she wants to fuck with people, I gave her the biggest pole she can play with." Luffy answered without looking up. Buggy was slacked jaw as he looks at Luffy. Even Zoro stopped practicing and looked at Luffy with a surprised but questioning gaze. Luffy then just points a finger upwards. When Buggy and Zoro looked up they saw a human, with blue overalls and a long-sleeved shirt on, scrubbing the mast.

"What did she try to do?" Still looking up, Zoro smirked at this sight. Nami is currently scrubbing around the crow's nest and cursing at the same time. "She tried to steal from me." Says Luffy as he drinks milk from a flask. "Damn, 1,000 berries for that flask of milk is really worth it." Buggy's face turned serious and looked at Luffy, "So, Why isn't she dead yet?" "What?" Zoro was mildly surprised at that. He knows that pirates are ruthless but he didn't think they were that cruel. At least Luffy doesn't look like one. Before Luffy could answer, they heard a scream from above, "I'M DONE!" Luffy looked up and shouted, "COME ON DOWN THEN!"

When Nami reached the deck, she found Buggy tense and looking like he is ready to fight, while Zoro looks like he is just waiting for an explanation. Luffy is just goofily smiling, a complete 180 from the monster that she saw earlier. Buggy starts, "You know what you did, can you explain?" "I said I'm sorry, alright?!" Buggy got pissed, "Don't raise your voice, theft from a crew member is an offense worthy of walking the plank, but theft from the captain? I would've cut your head as a warning." Buggy draws his daggers. Zoro from looking conflicted just looked determined. Zoro doesn't want to kill for just petty theft, but Buggy has a point, stealing from a captain is a big offense. Nami is now visibly trembling. 'I haven't released them yet!' Is the only thing that is going through her head.

"Okay okay, don't kill her, you're frightening her." Luffy's goofy smile didn't help. From Nami's POV, Luffy is smiling while talking about her execution as something as light as eating or not. Luffy called Nami to grab her attention and raised 4 fingers. "There are 4 reasons why I didn't kill you. The most important one, I need a navigator, not someone who can just read maps but someone who can predict the changes in the air and accurately say when or how will the weather change. 2, you are in my crew, I'll protect my crew even if they were in the wrong unless it truly goes against my beliefs. 3, I didn't sense any kind of ill will towards me, meaning, you wanted to steal because you HAD to. I just wish you tell us why. 4th reason." Luffy takes off 3 of his rings and threw them towards the ocean. He even grabs Sirius and threw it out as well. The 3 people's eyes got wide to the sudden movement. But Luffy just continues, "Stealing my stuff is useless. My stuff will just return to me, no matter where they are." With a smile, Luffy raises his hands. On the fingers, the rings just shine into existence. And with a snap of his fingers, another light appears and from it, Sirius, his Naginata appears and rests on his hand. Buggy and Nami were surprised, Zoro has already seen it. "How did you do that? Even when I was in the grandline, I haven't seen that!" Buggy rushed towards Luffy and looked closely at the Naginata and the rings. Nami, on the other hand, noticed something different from the others.

Luffy threw away 3 rings but he had 4. The last ring was a red ring that is carved looking like a scaled thing that is eating its tail. It was on his left hand's ring finger. 'Is he married?'.

"Ok!, Buggy, I'm sorry but I won't answer your questions just yet. Wait until we enter the grandline. For now, Nami! Here's a map, we're going to Syrup Village. Buggy, look out for ships and Zoro, help with the steering of the ship. I'm going to sleep for a bit." Luffy goes to the cabin and closes the door, the 3 people went and made the ship sail to syrup village. Nami is ashamed not because of what she did but because of how Buggy was looking at her full of disdain. 'You're the pirate here! Why am I in the wrong?!' Her thoughts were kept inside because she is scared of what Buggy might do if she exclaimed that out loud.

They sailed for a day and this time it was Buggy who took the watch. Zoro wanted to do it but Buggy said that he needs to get accustomed to night watch again after not doing it for a few years. Nami woke up in the middle of the night and went to the deck to get some fresh air. Imagine her surprise when she saw body parts flying around the ship like a storm. She got even more scared when Buggy's head suddenly comes up to her. "Oh hey, there little thief!" Before she even screams, the head talked. Last night she saw a monster that had glowing eyes and mouth, now she sees a talking head while body parts are flying around. Nami screamed without a sound and just ran to the quarters and tried to sleep the entire night with a shivering body.

Nami was still trembling as she is remembering what she saw last night. She is staring hard at Zoro and just waiting for a second head to appear. Luffy noticed her aura and her sense of fright. "Nami, are you alright?" Nami turned to Luffy, "What are you all? Are you monsters? I s-saw him turning into a storm body parts, I saw you turn into a glowing monster."

'Glowing?' Luffy turned his head, then he remembered, "Crap, I'm starting to overheat." Luffy's powers have a special condition. He can use his power normally but he HAS to use them. If he doesn't use them in 45 days or so, his body will start the "cooldown". He called it cool down but it is anything but cool. It will start with his eyes and mouth glowing, then steam coming out of his body, then his body turning into his other form, then an explosion with his body as the center for the 46th day. His body is constantly generating energy and heat but in the 45 days of not using it, his power "rots" in a way. The rotting power is a poison created from the energy that is not being used and it is dangerous. The worst part? He can't stop it, Luffy can only prevent it. He tried using a sea stone to stop it but it actually got worse. The sea stone stops him from using his power but it did nothing to the production of the energy. It looks like his body is using the DF ability subconsciously to restrain the energy production so stopping his body from using his abilities is like letting the production go into maximum overdrive. (This is not scientifically accurate but I wanted Luffy to be a sun that is being accommodated by a human body. So I made "thermonuclear wastes" of his to mimic a human's reason for taking a dump.)

And right on cue, "OI! LUFFY!! You're steaming!" Zoro was surprised to see steam coming from different parts of Luffy's body. "Oh crap," Luffy stands up and goes to the deck and from his pocket he gets a big 7-foot metal case. His crew followed him and was surprised to see the big metal box it was glossy compared to a normal metal box. "Whatever you do, don't touch it or you will die," Luffy warned them and entered the box. Nami is just slacked jaw from all of these, she doesn't understand what is happening. Zoro just shrugged and returned to the quarters to eat. Buggy noticed Nami's expression and he understood what is going on in Nami's head. Buggy called out to Nami "Hey girl, do you know what Devil Fruits are?" Nami looks at Buggy with a raised eyebrow. "You mean those fruits from the legends?" "Legends? They are real, Luffy and I have them. For example, I have eaten the Bara Bara no mi, the chop-chop fruit, I can chop my body into parts and be fine even if I was cut in half," Buggy then splits his body in half and his upper body began floating. "Surprise" is an understatement from what Nami is feeling right now, 'Devil fruits are real! Maybe..?' Nami's expression became serious and when Buggy saw that, he left Nami alone in her thoughts but he said something before going back, "Luffy's DF will be stronger than mine and without a doubt, he'll be stronger than anything you'll see in these part of the sea."

A few hours later, Luffy finally comes out of the metal box. Nami was patiently waiting on the deck, Zoro was training and Buggy was just waking up from his sleep. They were surprised when Luffy came out. Luffy was covered in ash and black muck. The heavy smell of sulfur entered the crew's nose and it almost made Nami vomit because of it. Luffy touches the Box and puts it back in his pocket. Now, a disgusting smelling ashen and muck covered Luffy is standing on the deck. He reaches for another pocket and reveals a big drum of water. He promptly enters it and cleans himself with it. When he was cleaned, he gets out and dries himself with his powers. "I really need to remember when I might overheat."

Before he greets his crew Nami stepped towards him. "Please help," Her determined look and almost tearing eyes made Luffy smile a bit and says "It depends," "Depends on what?"

"Let's make a deal," Luffy reaches his hands and smiles mischievously.

Author's note: Now, why is Luffy always making a deal? Simple, this was ingrained in him by Shanks who also likes doing deals to keep the peace in the New World. Remember this part as this is one the biggest things I want Luffy to have and...anymore than that would be spoilers.
