The Cognitive and The One With A Keen Nose

~~~Ling Bing's POV~~~
I had heard that the Emperor was coming to visit, because he had never seen me and was curious. But it may be a chance of a life time for many other consorts and concubines to change their lives whether it's conclusion is bright or dim, but in my case there is no light, the world is shrouded in darkness where I am lost. I put on a mask that would cover half my face, using the excuse that I was ill, I had wanted to live my life as an invisble person and at some point fake my death, become a eunch and get released along with the other servants since Consort Ying was always very ill with malady which would not be suprising. I had Di Lian do my hair in a simple but elegant style and with a gone made of yellow silk of the color dandilions that was embroidered with Orchirds and Magnolia...Mature Charm and Nobility. I had worn a simple bracelet of carved deep green jade and pearl earring as I stood to wait by the door for his arrival. As I heard that he was announced I immediately bowed.
"My dear do not bow, you are ill please do not strain your body." He said in a gentle yet familiar voice, he then took my hand and helped me up. As I stsmood up to take a glance, I was shocked at what I saw...It was Hong ge! He looked at me curiously and asked me why I had a mask on, I replied saying that I was ill and did not want to infect his higness, he chuckled and then patted me on the head. We had begun a very educated disscussion on politics and on literature and philosophy.
~~~Hong Yan's POV~~~

The rumored beauty was not what I expected. Sure I did see her face but from what I saw, yes she was beautiful, her pale skin, eyes, long lashes, silky chestnut hair and matching chestnut eyes which reminded me of Bing Bing. Though she was fragile her small shoulders seem to be made of steel and her beautiful eyes full of determination. And unlike most of my consorts and concubines she knew how to read and discuss politics and understood my philosphy and not just her eyes and hair was like my Bing Bing but my ability to relax around her.

"Aren't the white violets beautiful?" I had asked she nodded in agreement. "Don't they mean happiness in marriage, how sweet of you. I also like the Stephanotis, happiness. But the only meaning I don't understand why Cyclamens?"

"Do you not like them, your higness? I could exchange them if you like?" She asked hesitantly.

"No it's not that, but doesn't Cyclamens mean to bid farewell?"

"Yes, but I have a certain fondness for these."

"Yes, well it is a pleasant change from the usual peonies." And when she moved to checkmate me in chess I caught a whiff of Nobility and Mature Charm though there wasn't a hint of Orchirds or Magnolias.
