Two Souls (Part 3)

Vorbuk followed a group of temple workers who carried the limp, unconcious, body of Bredret into a vacant room inside the temple. Once the light from the man's body had faded his breathing seemed to have returned to normal. Yet the dragon refused to awaken right away. It was as though he simply refused to come back to reality.

The room they were inside only had Vorbuk, Prince Leo, Ashley, and the sleeping dragon. It was one of the rooms that were built for the temple's people to reside in while staying at the temple. As Vorbuk looked around he could compare the room easily to that of a large apartment back in his world. Consisting of a room with a bed and stepping out of that room a wider living space that held a place to eat. People that came to the temple did not come for short times so the rooms for them were meant to provide the temple folk with a place they could live out til the end of their lives.

Johan's people were dedicated and commonly spent their entire lives following the temple. Theapan's temple was not a simple temple. It was the base temple of the continent that controlled all other temples throughout the continent. Johan could not allow his people to live in poor environment when he had much to protect. The health of his people were a priority he could not slack on dealing with.

"Do you think he will be able to handle what happened when he wakes up?" Vorbuk asked the prince while looking at a tear sliding down the side of Bredret's face. The man was sleeping peacefully on a bed while the tear gave away the fact that whatever he was dreaming was something painful.

"I think he will manage somehow. He's too stubborn to let this drag him down for too long." Prince Leo could not feel confident in his own words.

Bredret was a durable person. He had never seen the man look as weak before as he did at that moment on the bed. Celeste had meant everything to the dragon. When he woke up he could not predict how he would react. To lose the one he loved in the way that he did was not easy. He also knew that things between Bredret and Celeste were not simple from the start.

"H-Hey!" Vorbuk called out to Bredret as he saw the man's eyes beginning to flutter open slowly with a groan.

"Mutt?" Bredret caught sight of the wolf at his bedside calling out to him. It was a familiar beast that he had been following around for a while. The sight of Vorbuk reminded him of the emptiness that he now felt around him. No matter which way his vision turned he could not find her. He could not catch a single glimpse of Celeste.

"You aren't going to find her. She's gone already." A blunt voice came from the direction of the door.

In the doorway stood Shides with a hesitant expression on his face. The god knew his words were harsh but he could not allow the dragon's reluctance to accept the situation to drag out. It would do Bredret no good in the long run the more he tried to deny the fact that Celeste was no longer there. Her soul had already been consumed by the dragon. A dragon had escaped the control of the gods. The price was not cheap as it cost him the soul of his beloved.

"Your-" Bredret's body did not shudder instinctively like it usually would in the presence of a god. He could feel the intense pressure from the god warning him that it was in fact a god in front of him. There was no way he could not recognize what Shides was at a glance. Yet the heavy fear to run was gone as if it was swept away. His instincts knew that he could no longer be easily locked down by such existences. In place of that a burning anger tried to swallow him whole.

The gods can just do whatever they want as they please without concerning themselves with what fate they cause others. Even if Shides was not the god who caused his current situation he felt disgusted. Bredret hated the gods more than ever before.

"Will Bredret be alright?" Leo asked Shides. Not much was known about merging souls together.

"If you consider the fact that he's a dragon with two souls.. He should be fine but I can not say there wont be any problems at all." Shides pondered his knowledge for answers.

"What do you mean?" Leo pressed further.

"As I have said before this is something that is not to be used. There is not much knowledge to go off of. The fact that he was given the soul of his loved one willfully there is a chance that he will be fine. However throughout history he is not the only case where someone tried this method. In the past those that had were done more dangerously and the people who did it went crazy." Shides rambled on about stories he had heard.

"They went crazy?" They all looked over at Bredret and shuddered at the thought of the dragon losing his mind one day.

"I don't know the details because I was not the one who personally witnessed it. According to them they would have some form of hallucinations caused by the dual souls. Although the souls are merged the secondary soul can still react to one goes on in the outside world. He wont be able to see that girl again, but that does not mean he wont be able to sense her emotions as if they were his own. Those who used the method tried it in more violent ways so the souls were not capable of bonding properly."

Ba-Dump! Ba-Dump!

Bredret's heart began to beat a bit faster at those words. He would never see her again. Everyone was happy that Bredret was alright but they were still uncomfortable at the fact that Celeste was gone. They cared about her too even if she had not been visible all the time. As a soul she had not been able to communicate with them but she would still make herself visible at times in order to see everyone. It hurt. Bredret hurt deeply.

"Are you okay?" Vorbuk asked Bredret while looking up at him as the man sat up on the bed with a broken expression. At the question he could see the man's expression crumble even further before making himself seem expressionless.

"How is everything outside?" The dragon avoided the wolf's question.

"Everything has been settled for now. We are resting here at the temple before we head further into Theapan. You should rest up after what happened. The other god that Shides is helping will be arriving soon as well." Leo felt complicated at the sight of Bredret.

"No," Bredret replied while standing up and avoiding eye contact. "I can't lay around like this."

Leo did not say anything further.

Bredret felt the need to get up from the bed. If he remained in bed for too long he knew he would not easily find the strength to get to his feet again. A part of him had been shattered and he desperately wanted a drink.

"Are you going to look for the pope?" Vorbuk asked Bredret when he caught a glimpse of Bredret's expression.

"Heh.. The mutt should mind his own business." Bredret said without answering. If anyone had something to drink it would be the pope, Johan Lovette, in this place. He wanted to drown himself in a strong drink so that he could dull the pain in his chest.
