'Is everything alright? I saw you—'the waiter's voice faltered as Loki shot him a lethal glare. Loki glanced at Nevaeh who was hastily wiping her tears and already turning around, diverting her attention completely towards the boy.
'Everything was. Till you ruined the moment, you pathetic mortal—'Loki was interrupted by Nevaeh's heel that sharply stomped on his toes. TOK!
'Ouch! Why?' Loki grunted
'You know why!' hissed Nevaeh in a whisper, 'we are good. Thank you for stopping by. Would you bring us some cheese cherry pineapple please?' Nevaeh added, glancing warmly at the slightly stunned waiter whose skin looked paler than before. 'Make it frozen,' she added as he slowly nodded and turned away from them to trot inside.
Nevaeh turned to raise an eyebrow at Loki. He shrugged. 'Man, I am so glad we are leaving this planet soon. You are a handful,' Nevaeh said, steering him by the hand to again sit themselves down on their respective chairs.
'Well, the feeling is mutual. Being trapped like this is suffocating,' Loki said.
'Geez, I never noticed. And how long have you been here?' Nevaeh asked bitterly.
'Nevaeh, you will caution restraint no longer. We leave soon and once we do, you will be nothing but free from these shackles. You can use any form of magic, whenever, wherever, without thinking once about the consequences or worry about petty ignorant people. Blow up mines, create hurricanes, erupt a volcano! I will be there by your side to make sure you stay safe from yourself,' Loki said.
Nevaeh paused a moment to let those beautiful words soak in, and she gave Loki an equally beautiful smile. 'I like the sound of that. I still don't believe we are doing this. It's crazy!' she said happily.
Loki clinked his glass to hers. 'You will once we set off.'
'I should get started on sorting my things. It's quite easy to pack with my wand but I am not sure about my bags. I have already put an extending charm on them but I doubt they will be large enough to fit all of my stuff,' Nevaeh was saying when Loki ran a hand through his hair. The way she was speaking implied that she indeed had a lot of luggage which she wished to bring along with her.
'Tell me, what are the belongings that you wish to bring along with you?' Loki asked. The waiter approached them with a dome-like ice structure on its plate which had little sticks embedded in it.
'Well, let's see. My clothes which will be a lot, and shoes will be more than the clothes—'Nevaeh was saying when the waiter gently placed the tray on their table. He picked up the bottle of wine and took it to himself for refilling their drinks.
'Why do you need so many shoes? You have two feet,' Loki said, pulling out a wooden stick from the frost and analysing the layer of fruit and cheese.
'Loki! I am not going to wear the same shoes every day! I change my shoes three times a day! Two if I am busy!' Nevaeh snapped.
'Okay, what else?'
'My books. Not all of them, just a few. My action figures. My lightsabers—'
'Okay. Stop' Loki said. 'You don't need all of that. Besides, I can get you whatever you want.'
'But I don't need new stuff. I need my—'
'Then I will get you your stuff. But you don't need to shift everything along with your toys on an eternal – on an entire different planet,' Loki said hastily correcting his sentence.
Nevaeh pouted. 'I still don't have a clue of what you can do, do I?'
'What makes you say that?'
'Even on Vanaheim, I had no clue of what was real and what was not. Even the people. The animals, the trees. I couldn't tell any of it apart!' Nevaeh complained as if she were disappointed in herself.
'But love that was the whole point of that magic, was it not? To make everything so perfect that your highly skilled parents' won't make out the difference. Imagine how they would feel if they found out it was all a hoax,' Loki said.
She shrugged and nodded. 'Tell me everything you did since you left the house at dawn.'
Loki's heart took a pause for a mere moment, but quickly resumed as if immediately recovering from the anxiety. 'Let's see. At first, I arrived in the forest. That was not an appropriate place for our morning. Then, I found a partially built/broken structure and bewitched it by tons of spells. Then I finished a few final touches, created illusions, summoned some domestic animals, carved a few trees to make them look homely. All the pink you saw was an illusion; there is more greenery in Vanaheim than colourful, shiny, distant flowers. I was even going to build a sort of church where they were praying for me during my absence till our very arrival, with candles and flowers and such, but I ran out of time,' finished Loki. He took a hearty sip from his wine glass. Nevaeh was blinking silently at him.
'Oh, Loki. You say that as if you performed a mere levitating charm back there!' Nevaeh hushed. She was gazing at Loki through wide, unbelieving eyes. Loki smiled humbly, all his teeth sparkling. 'Well, as you know, I am not the kind who boasts about their impeccably heightened prowess.'
'But you should! Oh, I want to see it!' Nevaeh said. Loki looked at her for a long time, giving it a thought. He had planned on staying back on Vanaheim and sending Nevaeh home with his illusion because he wanted to unravel his spells and charms, lift his illusions, and bring the place back to normal as well, something which he hadn't gotten around to doing yet because of Nevaeh's persistence on his true presence.
'I mean, think about it! Other than our duel and fights back in Asgard, I haven't really seen you perform any magic! I know you will show me everything you can do once we leave Earth, but I want to see how you did everything when you arrived on Vanaheim,' Nevaeh said happily. 'Everything was so perfect.'
'What do you mean? You want to see the memory of when I first arrived on Vanaheim?' Loki asked, his heart again pausing for a mere moment.
'Yes, please! I would love to see how you did it all!' she said, her eyes twinkling.
Loki couldn't possibly show her everything from the beginning, due to the surprise visit that Amora had paid him. 'Watching memories is lame,' Loki yawned. 'How about something better? Haven't you grown tired of watching memories? I think it's time to witness magic through your own eyes,' Loki said, winking lightly.
