Back to square One

Ador thanked the Almighty for her narrow escape. She went to the hotel, her new company had allocated her for training. Seven days of rigorous training and she came back to Kolkata, to her parents.

She had not decreased so much in weight but her dependency on clonazepam was reduced to si opus sit. She had become matured too.

Dev had qualified the interview and was posted in MUMBAI. He was busy with his clientele and with Mir around, would go for equipment installations and their smooth operation. He had stopped alcohol or rather was abstaining from it.

Both Ador and Dev had become busy, like life before marriage, back to square one, to prove the world their ability to excel in their fields.

Kir talked with Ita that they were growing old, so it would be better if they start in finding for Unma, a prospective groom.

When Ador came back home post work, Kir and Ita talked about Unma's marriage prospect.

Ador said, "Why chain her down? Let her enjoy life. Men will be men. They never change no matter what generation they come from. If both of you, would not have listened to our relatives and hurried for my marriage, then we would not have fallen in this pit. Now am asking you, Mom who among our relatives call you in a daily basis asking about how I am doing..... N6one, right? So relatives are relatives..... not related. Let my sister enjoy her life. Why think of extra baggage."

"There was this old beggar woman in the roadside near the National Library. It was 2 pm. So I gave her a two rupees coin in her bowl. She got angry and started screaming and chasing me with a guava stick and hurled it at me. Look at my arm, Mommy. It's swollen after a thrashing from a madwoman, that also in two places. come and see" so saying Ador started crying. Both Kir and Ita looked at her left arm. It had two long swollen lines from the hit.

Kir told loudly what was in his mind..... " I don't know how your future will be, a roadside madwoman thrashes you in public..... am scared how many thrashings life has in store for you"Ador teary eyed looked at her father disgustingly while Ita was glaring at Kir's stupid blabbering. "What nonsense" , she said as she rubbed thrombophob over the swelling.

Ador thought about Dev and her father's word of :thrashing"..... she shuddered and closed her eyes.

Unma came home and when she heard about Ador's encounter with a madwoman, she giggled. Then on a serious tone she said..... I wonder why so many people turn from sane to mad. It's a thin line between sanity and insanity. May God give us the patience to hold on and never give up on life in distressing times... otherwise the number of mad people will increase nationwide....a pandemic for sure. "

Ador looked at her sister and was trying to read her, was Unma serious or indirectly telling her to be cautious in her daily approach. Heaving a sigh, she went to her room for a change of clothes post her return.
