Day 8

"Happy Birthday," I grumbled as I came in over the weekend to hand Kyle his seventh birthday card.

"Still mad at me, huh?" asked Kyle as he took the card from me. "I'm glad you stuck with stickers this time instead of trying to draw, Renata."

Over the weekend mom and I went to Michael's. She bought more hot glue for her hot glue gun at home while I added sticker packets for various occasions in the cart. I remember she raised her eye at a few of them, but indulged me nonetheless. She told me, "I'm glad you're starting to get into the crafting spirit!" I only smiled back in reply.

"Your compliments always makes my heart warm, Kyle," I replied with a pout. I sit down near his bed as I glance at the front of the card. Which had the number seven on it. Kyle gasped as I knew he would.

"Again, you write the number seven like how a computer does it. We talked about this, Ren--"

"Look inside," I tell him. He opens the card and smirked as he saw different number sevens. Both in the way the computer writes them and how other kids do it, with a slash on the belly of the number.

"No matter how it's written, you're only seven once." He closed the card as he said, "Wrong. Since this is the second time I'm celebrating my seventh birthday I concede I've been seven twice."

"Have you been reading a dictionary since I'd been here last?"

Kyle nodded as he said, "That and looking up movie quotes. Oh, like this one I memorized!" His face took on a serious expression as he said: "The first rule about fight club is you don't talk about fight club".

"What movie is that from?"

"Fight club. I know, I never watched it either but I love the quote." Then Kyle's eyes grew big. "Renata, would you like me to see if I can get the fight club movie. So, we can watch it together!"

"Uh sure, it sounds interesting." I look down at my phone as I realized I've been with Kyle for twenty minutes. I told Christina only ten. "I have to go now because my mom is waiting outside for me, but I'll see you tomorrow!" With those words, we both waved at each other before the door shut.
