Day 54

Kyle smirked as he sees how I decorated the card for his fifty-fourth birthday. "Dice and I guess a green felt poker table? You're drawings always don't amaze me, Renata."

"Read the card, killjoy," I replied with a smirk.

"Killjoy, hmm...how long did it take for you to come up with that one?" I whacked Kyle's shoulder hard. It still didn't stop him from adding, "That long, huh?"

I crossed my arms across my chest, and narrowed my eyes at him. "Somebody's a mood."

"You sure the mood isn't you, hon?" he asked me as he pulled out a candy bar from his side drawer. "Here, have it. The nurses keep on getting the rest of us patients treats and trinkets and well...at the rate they're giving them to me I won't be able to finish them all before I kick the bucket."

I grab the candy bar and put it in my backpack. "I didn't know auditions for Al Capone is taking place."

"Flattering; well if I'm Al Capone then you're the Queen of the Crime Underworld."

"What makes you think I can be?"

"Seriously, Renata?" Kyle placed a hand to his chest as if he's been stabbed. "I'm not surprised your lovely smile alone can render a man mortally wounded."

Laughing, I sit down on the edge of the bed. "You're my lover, of course you'd say that."

Kyle shook his head as he said, "You'll see that I'm right, Renata. Now, onto the next order of business." He flips his birthday card open. "With both kids out of the house, you and your wife take a well deserved vacation to Las Vegas where you win big on the slot machines."

I lean towards him with both of my hands clasped. "Well?"

"Well, I like that we won big on the slot machines. However, I know I'm going to spend my cut on you, Renata." I whack his shoulder with the back of my hand.

"And if I'm not agreed?" I asked him.

"Too bad. The lingerie is non-refundable."

"You're terrible!" I replied trying to sound outraged but feeling like I've failed miserably. I'm just thankful Kyle had the decency to look partially guilty about his words.
