Day 56

Abraham was there the next day. I sat on the chair near the wall and didn't bother to move it near Kyle's bed. "Lovers Quarrel?" asked Abraham with a smirk which was only accentuated by his black lipstick.

"No," Kyle and I said together. While I sounded defensive Kyle just sounded casual.

"Liars," said Abraham. "Did you forget to make a birthday card for his fifty-sixth birthday, Renata?"

"No," I replied. "I'd rather give the card to you, Abraham."

Abraham opened his mouth to say something when Kyle sat straight up in his bed. "No way, it's my birthday and my card. Come on, Renata!"

"That's the most I ever heard him beg for anything, Renata. He's not playing."

"Well, I'm not playing either," I replied as I stand up. I make sure I'm at least three feet away from Kyle's grasp as I hand over his birthday card to Abraham. "Do what you will with it," I said softly.

Abraham shrugged before opening the birthday card.

"NOOOOOO!!!!"

"Shush Kyle, I'm trying to read here." Abraham skims the page as his eyes widen. "Harley is grown? Man, I missed a lot."

"Give it!" shouted Kyle.

Abraham frowned for a moment. "Where did your manners go?"

"I never had manners," replied Kyle.

Instead of frowning, Abraham laughed. "Fair enough," he said before handing Kyle his birthday card.

Kyle cleared his throat as he slouched back in his bed. "Harley graduate's with his medical doctorate. Harley knows how to heal patients medically and soulfully with songs written from the heart."

"Nice right?" asked Abraham as he looked at me for a moment with a knowing smile. "You sure he deserves such an easy-going life?"

"Who said his life would be easy," I replied.
