"Ben, we heard something on the way back here. Something about Alice's engagement. Do you know anything about this?" Cathy couldn't keep her mouth to herself anymore. She's too sure that Benjamin knows about this topic and just decided to not tell her.
Benjamin had his eyes closed as he was too tired to think of today's matters. Not only that it is just this morning that his father told him about Alice going back to the country, and thinking that his mother's attack was probably also because of that news, and now something about an engagement?
Benjamin's forehead creased a little bit, opened his eyes and looked at his wife. "What are you talking about?"
Cathy is shocked to see that even her husband doesn't know about this. Better keep it to herself unless she's sure. "Nothing, maybe I misheard. But why is it that you didn't tell us sooner that Alice is coming back? We could've prepared something." She maintained her cool and decided to change the subject, all the while pretending to sound like a caring mother.
"Why are you bugging me with all these questions? I only heard about it today also. I don't know anything about that girl and I do not care. Stop asking me, I'm going upstairs." With that, Benjamin leaves the room, taking his jacket with him.
Cathy didn't say anything for a while. So, this means even her husband know nothing. She knew Benjamin didn't put any effort to contact that child when she left abroad. That and with her coaxing, his relationship with the child can be said to be non-existent now.
"So Daddy doesn't know either. Then, what are we going to do Mom? We don't even know where that slut is right now." Cassandra now seats in a sofa, drinking tea.
An idea flashed in Cathy's eyes. "Maybe she's in the Main Mansion. I have to call the Old Man." She took out her phone, and called. Butler Yang answered the call.
"Anything you need, Miss?" Cathy got irritated with this. The butler never called her a Madam, even after years she's been visiting the Main Mansion. Never treated as the real Madam. But she tried to ignore that because she needed information.
"Is Alice there? Can you tell her to come home? We have been waiting and it's already evening."
Butler Yang and his family is loyal only to Old Wu, and would only give the Old Madam the face but not to the extent of being a slave or an attendant for the old woman. He is and will only listen to the descendants of the Wu family. Old Wu, Benjamin, and of course, Alice. That alone would be a reason not to answer this Miss Xu's inquiry. But since it was a question he can afford to answer, so he did.
"Answering Miss. Young Miss Alice has not been in the Wu Mansion for five years, don't know if the Miss knew this or not?"
Cathy's face turned sour. IF only she could choke this butler to death, he infuriates her. Never a respect for her, they should fire him already. She actually suggested this to the Old Madam, but the Old Madam herself is helpless on this subject. They had no choice but to just let it go.
"We are worried sick about her. Trouble Butler Yang to tell her to please come home. Thank you." Still with her pretense voice, she said goodbye to the butler.
"What is it Mom, who's on the phone, what did they tell you?" Cassandra asked.
Cassandra showed her impatience to her daughter. "Nothing. It is most likely that she's not there. But where could she be?"
Due to the fact that the Zhao family never reached out to Alice, they never would connect the dot between the two. Their thinking is that since Lyannie was shunned by her own family, even her daughter was forgotten. But it is only tomorrow that they will know their wrong judgment.
