On the practice field, a bunch of overzealous youths are padded up in full gear while listening to the coach give his pre-try-out motivation
"No position is safe. It's open season boys. Impress me and you get a shot. It's as simple as that!"
The coach's whistle blows and the drills begin.
*Insert sports montage here*
Alex sitting in the bleaches finds his focus elsewhere.
The cheer-leading team had just arrived, and Lana stood in front giving orders out as the general with her bright pom-poms. Unfortunately for him though since the season has not yet began, uniforms have not yet been finished. So his expectations of the typical miniskirt and bare legged display were mildly tempered. Thank god, Lana was there, as a sight to behold. She was utterly sensual even when doing the most mundane thing.
Eventually, the group of boys get separated into two teams. Pete and Clark find themselves assigned to team bench-warmers, while the other side was composed of the regular jocks with Whitney leading the charge.
As much as Whitney is an ass, Alex can't help but admit that he has a decent arm on him. While not a projected 1st round draft pick. Just based on his Athleticism alone, objectively he should be a highly scouted prospect for all the colleges in Kansas.
The bench-warmers on the other hand, well they are an absolute shamble. Let's just say Alex was doing a better job defending while sitting on the stands. It was a massacre.
Thankfully, as the only skill position player who handles the ball without much help from the QB (quarterback) Clark was able to single handily carry the team.
As the RB (running back) he has probably put up close to 300 yards alone in this scrimmage. How much of it is due to his 'extra-terrestrial' abilities, Alex can't be sure but from his experience Clark is definitely only on level 1/1000.
Pete on the other hand did not have as much luck, while he is able to lose his assignments with relative ease. The Wide receiver, has to catch the ball in order to make a play happen and regrettably the ball was not coming his way. That did not stop the boy's from trying though, even Alex admired his efforts in this ultimately futile battle.
As the training heated up, Clark and Pete have turned to taking additional defensive duty as well and become makeshift Line Backer and Defensive End's. Thanks to that change, they are able to finally force a stop late in the game.
The current score at this point in time, is 18-21. And while the number of touchdowns have been the same, the extra point opportunities haven't. The kicker , if you can call him that, of the bench warmers has as of yet not been able to hit a single field goal even from only the 10 yard line.
'Sure enough, any team with a little Superhuman on it, has a chance. Who said football can't be played by yourself?' Alex sighs internally
With only 2 minutes to go the game is heating up, quite the bit. Slowly but surely Clark makes his way down the field. All the way to the 20 yard line.
In the original plot that should have occurred prior Clark's interference, the actual jocks are supposed to be schooling the noobs. But now, they are having to fight for every inch. And if you asking why they don't just stack the box? Crowd the zone for the running game and make the quarterback throw? Well two reasons. Firstly: They've tried it and Clark still gained 7 yards per attempt and secondly, due to some divine miracle the skinny guy playing QB actually made a throw earlier and with Pete in space it was an easy touchdown.
Whitney, on the side-line persuades the coach to put him in for defense, "I'll assist in tackling Clark. We can't let them show up the 2 time state champions. Dan, Nate. You two help, ANYTHING to get him to the ground. Let's hit them hard... CROWS ON THREE. 1…2 … 3!!!"
"CROWS!!" The huddle releases a united raw. Alex in his seat can feel the tension in the air, replace this scene with night time and floodlights and it could be on Friday Night Lights. Where is Skip Bayless when you need him.
"Who side are you on?" A sweet voice comes from below.
Looking towards the pretty teenager dressed in red. Alex answers "I've always been a sucker for underdogs"
Lana breaks into a smile, "Me too"
"Please, you are dating the Star QB."
Shaking her head cutely, "All's fair in love and war. And right now, my childhood friend and neighbor is in a war ." Turning to the field she shouts proudly "Let's Go KENT!"
Whitney's jealousy flares up almost immediately at her shout, Lana doesn't seem to recognize this. It appears that she is oblivious to the pride of the man.
"YEAH. LET'S GO FARM BOY. KILL EM!"
"Hey, It's only a scrimmage." Lana chides at Alex's aggressive comment
"My bad. KILL EM… SOFTLY FARM BOY!"
Lana just rolls her eyes and puts on a small grin as the two's gazes return to the action.
