Chapter 9 : His future, her past (3)

Rachel suddenly woke up from her dream. She touched her eyes. They were wet. Recalling the incident, she cried even more. It was not the first time of dreaming this. Whenever she had this dream, she would end up crying her eyes out.

Turning towards the other side of the bed, she caressed it. Her hands felt cold. No warmth. She mumbled with little sobs,

'You said, you..you will come back early. Why..why did you not come? Why did you break your promise? W..why?'

After crying for some time, she dozed off.

One person dreamed about the future while the other person dreamed about the past.

The next morning, Rachel came down to have breakfast with the family. Seeing her in office attire, Gabriel puffed her cheeks, "Why won't you take a break?"

Having breakfast, Rachel replied, "Mom, I just have to meet a client today. I don't have much work to do. It's fine."

"Honey, why is she meeting the clients? It's not her job right? Why are you making her work more?"

Colin heard his wife's nagging. "It's because manager Lin is on leave. She just has to meet and get the contract signed. Don't worry too much!"

Facing Rachel he said, "You can come a little late. The appointment is at 10.30 AM. After dropping Jane, go directly to Richmond hotel. I have arranged for everything."

Gabriel wanted to argue more, but before she could open her mouth, Colin had left.

"Mom, I'm late. I'm late again. You should have woken me up! I'm dead. " Jane came down shouting.

"Jane, you want me to wake you up? What? Are you a Montessori kid? Useless girl. You should learn from Rachel. She is such a responsible person. Try to ...hey, where are you going? Have your breakfast, you dummy!"

Jane neglected her mom's nagging. It had become a daily routine for her mom to scold her. 'Huh, who cares? We have two ears..why? To create a path for those scoldings to go from one end to another. Haha!'

"Yes, mom! I will change myself from tomorrow onwards. Just excuse me for today." Saying this, she grabbed an apple and ran towards the door.

Seeing both husband and daughter neglecting her, she pouted. Hmph! ungrateful people! Rachel walked towards the car and saw Jane munching on the apple. She smacked her head.

"Stop angering mom always. Get ready early from tomorrow as I won't be dropping you."

'Calm down Jane. Remember? Two ears!'

Jane bid farewell and went inside the college. As she reached the entrance, her two minions were waiting for her. Seeing them, she ran like an athlete and jumped on them.

"Morons!!!"

Edwin caught her in his arms. Ren, who saw her holding his friend like a Koala, shook his head.

"Baby, I know you missed me but...don't you think you are exaggerating too much?"

Jane ignored her friend and got off him. Seeing Ren standing silently at the side, she walked towards him with an evil smile. 'There you are~'

"Hubby~I missed you so much!" Ren held her arms tightly before she could strangle him in the name of a hug.

"Let's go. It's already late." He left his friends and walked towards the class. Seeing her pouting, Edwin put his arm around her shoulder and said with a wink,

"C'mon babe, don't piss him off morning itself. He will ruin our day. Also, you have me!"

Jane smacked his head. "My day doesn't start without pissing you guys off. Hmph! Useless babe, let's go. Hubby, wait up! "

Edwin and Ren were friends from high school. They practically grew up together like brothers. They went to the same school, the same college and now, at the same university. They never used to mingle with girls. When they joined university, they met Jane in the most unexpected situation. From then on, they became best buddies. Early days, they used to find Jane's flirting as annoying but later, it became a daily routine so much so that, they would think, something might have happened to her if she didn't flirt with them.

Edwin was jovial who could easily match up with Jane's mischievousness. They both were partners in crime. Among the three, Ren was the only decent person who had a straight head. Though he had a cold face all the time, he cared a lot for these two idiots. He would do anything to protect them from others. He wasn't an expressive guy but his silence meant everything. Jane was lucky to have these two friends in her life.
