Chapter 60 : There's no future for us. (23)

The sharp crisp sound echoed in the silent corridor.

Alan covered his mouth with a loud gasp.

'What... what just happened? Rachel hit his brother? OMG!!'

He waited for his brother's outburst, after all, no one had ever hit his brother from his childhood. Well, except for their father.

But to his surprise, Aaron didn't even flinch. He stood rooted to the ground without batting his eyes. His lack of response scared everyone to their core. His expression was like a calm before the storm.

Rachel held her breath, waiting for him to shout at her. Seconds went by like a minute.

But Aaron didn't react. This enraged her even more and she lifted her hand once more to hit him. Just as her palm was about to touch Aaron's left cheek, he held her wrist with the left hand.

Alan started to panic.

'What now? Is he going to break Rachel's wrist? Oh, it hurts!'

But, he saw an astonishing scene in front of him. His brother held her hand and gently... massaged it?

What the hell? Was he seeing things?

Aaron took her hand and observed it. Sure enough, it was bright red.

He held her porcelain hand in his big palms and caressed it as though it would break with a simple snap. He brought it his mouth and blew on it to reduce the pain.

Alan was speechless.

'Seriously, bro?'

Rachel was dumbfounded.

'What the hell? This was not what I had expected, alright? He is not following the script, at all!'

"Does it hurt?"

Aaron asked with concern.

'Of course, it hurts! Your body is made of steel, alright?' She wanted to scream!

She tried pulling her hand back from his firm grip but failed. She exerted all the strength and yanked her hand back. To her bad luck, just at that moment, he loosened his grip.

Her eyes bulged with shock and staggered backward, almost falling on her butt. But the same old steel hand held her waist and pulled her back.

Her small nose hit his hard chest. That hurts!

The pain caused Rachel's eyes to fill with tears. She looked so pitiful, right now.

She was about to tell thanks but remembered that it had happened because of him, in the first place. She pushed him as hard as she could. She succeeded!

Her eyes were bloodshot with anger.

"You did that, right?" She gritted her teeth.

"What?"

He simply put his hands in the pockets. His don't-care attitude was getting on her nerves.

Rachel mocked!

"Hah, you don't know what I am talking about? Do you take me for a fool? You purposefully started the mess back there! Because you did not like the fact that I was getting married to Darren? How can you be so heartless? See now, what you did to dad! If anything happens to him, I swear on God, I will make your life hell!"

By the time she finished, tears were flowing like streams. Her entire cheeks were damped.

Aaron starred at her face, a lump forming in his throat. He cleared his throat before speaking.

"It wasn't me."

Rachel scoffed!

"Why, you can't accept it? But you had the guts to do it? You should have taken your anger out on me. My dad trusted you so much. How could you do this to him? What should I do if anything happens to him? What will I answer my mom? How do I explain it to everyone? Tell me! Tell me, you bastard!"

She started hitting his chest with her tight fist. She was hurting herself by hitting him.

After pounding for some time, she lost strength. She stood there, motionless.

Aaron slowly reached his hand to her shoulders but she pushed his hands away.

"Don't touch me!"

He sighed and massaged his temples.

"It wasn't me. Okay? Why would I ruin my own reputation in front of everyone? Also, what proof do you have that you are accusing me?"

She got stunned.

'That's right, what proof did she have? None... but,'

"You had always disliked the idea of me getting married to Darren! You must have done it stop the marriage!"

There you go!

Aaron chuckled. He looked at her like she had two heads.

"I'm sorry, babe. I never disliked the idea of you getting married to Darren."

Rachel blinked in confusion. He bent down to her level and whispered in her ear.

"I dislike the idea of you getting married to anyone else but me."

Rachel gasped.

'I knew it! I knew it! This bastard!'

Before she could raise her voice, the emergency room door opened.

The doctor came out removing the mask. Rachel held her breath and everyone waited to hear the news.
