Unmasking Shadows

Seladang City woke to another typical day of bustling activity, but for Jiang Han, the hours ahead were far from ordinary. The Intelligence Division's latest findings had uncovered a critical lead—a direct link to the local handler orchestrating the attacks against him and Mikhail. The operation to dismantle this growing threat had begun.

Colonel Yusof addressed the gathered leaders in the main conference room of Jiang Han's estate. A large digital display outlined the key mission objectives.

"Team," Yusof began, his voice carrying authority, "this operation requires precision. Every division has a role to play. This is our chance to uproot the source of the enemy's influence in Seladang City."

Adrian Yong stepped forward, his usual calm demeanour tinged with resolve. "Our target is Elias Zafir, a businessman with a veneer of respectability. Underneath, he controls an underground network of mercenaries and informants. He's the handler coordinating the enemy's operations here."

A low murmur swept through the room. Lieutenant Colonel Razif Syahmi, the head of the Bodyguard Division, asked the question on everyone's mind. "How do we know it's him?"

Adrian's expression didn't falter. "Our surveillance has intercepted coded messages linked to his private communication channels. Cross-referencing those with movements in his financial accounts leaves no doubt."

Major Azlan, leading the Training Division, leaned back in his chair. "What's the plan for extraction?"

Adrian clicked a remote, switching the screen to a detailed map of Elias Zafir's luxury penthouse. "His building is heavily fortified, with layers of security—both human and electronic. It's a fortress, but not impenetrable."

Colonel Yusof pointed to the highlighted entry points on the map. "The operation will be conducted in two phases. Phase one involves the Cybersecurity Unit infiltrating and disabling Zafir's digital defences. This will allow us to move in undetected."

"Phase two," Razif added, "requires a coordinated strike by the Bodyguard and Security Guard Divisions. We'll extract Zafir and secure evidence linking him to the attacks."

Sergeant Marcus Tan, leader of the Counter-Surveillance Unit, raised his hand. "We'll deploy detection devices to ensure no alarms are triggered. Our priority is stealth."

Jiang Han nodded approvingly. "Good. We cannot afford collateral damage or public exposure. Execute this perfectly."

As the meeting adjourned, Adrian Yong retreated to the command centre to oversee the final preparations. Captain Elisa Tan, his newly appointed assistant leader, joined him. The synergy between them was palpable as they reviewed mission protocols.

"Elisa, double-check our informants' intel on Zafir's movement patterns," Adrian instructed. "If he deviates from his usual routine, we need to adapt immediately."

"Already on it," Elisa replied, her fingers flying across the keyboard. "We've also flagged a potential ally among his inner circle—a disgruntled aide who might flip if we offer the right incentive."

Adrian glanced at her, impressed. "Good work. Let's keep that in our back pocket."

As night fell, the Aegis Sentinel Corps moved into position. The Cybersecurity Unit, led by Dr Imran Rahman and Sophia Liew, began their attack on Zafir's digital fortress. Lines of code filled their screens as they bypassed firewalls and neutralised security cameras.

"We're in," Sophia announced, her voice steady. "All surveillance feeds are now under our control."

On the ground, Sergeant Marcus Tan and Corporal Nik Suraya led their Counter-Surveillance teams in deploying scramblers to block outgoing signals from the building. "No surprises tonight," Marcus muttered as he activated the last device.

The green light for phase two came quickly. Razif Syahmi's team breached the penthouse with precision. The Bodyguard Division moved like shadows, subduing guards silently. Razif himself led the charge, his combat expertise evident in every calculated move.

Jiang Han insisted on being present for the final moments of the operation. As Razif and his team secured the penthouse, Jiang Han entered the room, flanked by Adrian and Colonel Yusof. Zafir sat in a plush chair, his smug expression a mask of defiance.

"You've made a mistake," Zafir sneered. "You think this will end with me? You have no idea who you're dealing with."

Jiang Han stepped forward, his gaze icy. "You're right, Zafir. This isn't the end. It's the beginning—for you. Tell me, how long do you think you'll last when your allies realise you've failed?"

Zafir's smirk faltered, but he quickly recovered. "You think you can intimidate me? I'm untouchable."

Adrian leaned in, his voice calm but lethal. "Untouchable? I've already dismantled your network. Your accounts are frozen, and your contacts are compromised. The only thing left is you."

Panic flickered in Zafir's eyes. He glanced at the laptop Adrian placed before him, displaying incriminating evidence. "This... this is fabricated."

Colonel Yusof crossed his arms. "The only fabrication here is your claim to power."

As Zafir was taken into custody, Jiang Han turned to Adrian. "We've cut off one head of the snake. Let's see how the rest react."

Adrian nodded. "They'll retaliate. But now, we're ready for them."

The team regrouped at the command centre, where the successful operation was celebrated briefly before the next steps were discussed. Jiang Han addressed the room, his voice resolute.

"This is a turning point. Our enemies will double their efforts, but we've shown them we won't back down. Stay vigilant. The fight is far from over."

The return to Aegis Sentinel Corps headquarters was a mixture of triumph and vigilance. The operation had gone smoothly, but Jiang Han's instincts told him this was only the beginning. He knew their enemies would not take such a decisive strike lying down.

In the debriefing room, the division leaders gathered once more. Major Azlan, standing with his arms crossed, nodded in approval. "The execution was seamless. Razif's team deserves recognition for the precision of the extraction."

Lieutenant Colonel Razif Syahmi, modest as ever, shook his head. "Credit goes to everyone involved. Without the Cybersecurity Unit paving the way and Counter-Surveillance neutralising external threats, we wouldn't have made it past the first checkpoint."

Sophia Liew chimed in, a hint of humour in her voice. "Glad to know our hours of staring at code didn't go unnoticed."

Jiang Han smiled faintly, appreciating the camaraderie among his team. "Every piece of this puzzle matters. But we can't afford to let our guard down."

Adrian Yong, ever the tactician, tapped on his tablet. "Elias Zafir's arrest sends a clear message, but it's also a provocation. His superiors will see this as a declaration of war. They'll retaliate, likely with more force and fewer restrictions."

Colonel Yusof nodded in agreement. "We need to stay one step ahead. I suggest bolstering the security around Jiang Han's family and close allies immediately."

The team swiftly devised new security protocols. Razif proposed additional personnel from the Bodyguard Division to protect Jiang Han's family, while Sergeant Marcus Tan recommended deploying mobile counter-surveillance units to monitor potential threats in real time.

"I'll personally oversee the coordination," Colonel Yusof assured his voice firm. "We'll make sure no one gets close without us knowing."

Adrian added, "Meanwhile, the Intelligence Division will focus on identifying Zafir's remaining contacts. We need to dismantle the rest of his network before they regroup."

Jiang Han listened carefully, weighing every suggestion. "Good. Let's implement these measures immediately. And remember—this is just the first phase. The enemy's next move will likely be their most desperate."

Later that evening, Jiang Han found himself in his study, reviewing files Adrian had provided. His thoughts were interrupted by a secure call from Elisa Tan, Adrian's assistant leader.

"We've intercepted a message," Elisa said, her tone sharp. "It's encrypted, but the fragments we've decoded suggest a retaliation is already being planned."

Jiang Han's grip tightened on his phone. "How soon?"

"Hours, not days," she replied. "Adrian's team is working on pinpointing the source, but I'd recommend mobilising our defences now."

Jiang Han exhaled slowly, his resolve hardening. "Let them come. We'll be ready."
