Obsession

"I have been wanting to meet you, the successor of the demon lord." Chen Xiu snapped his fan close and gave the lady a smile. He had thought that if he approached in a gentle manner, the lady would not be frightened away. Furthermore, she is human. Chen Xiu had heard that human ladies are quite shy when meeting the opposite sex so he maintained some distance.

However, the lady was still wary of him. She glared at him with hostile eyes, a warning to not get any closer and Chen Xiu does that.

"I mean you no harm, young lady." Chen Xiu reassured her. That did not have any effect on her. Xuan Yi tensed up her muscles, ready to run away the moment she deems it's dangerous.

Just as Xuan Yi was about to say something, a cold tone sounded behind her.

"Xuan Yi, let's go." The demon lord appeared behind her and said. He turned towards the earth god and gave a nod of acknowledgment.

"Earth god, excuse us. We have matters to attend to," the demon lord did not wait for a reply before his dark energy enveloped both Xuan Yi and him. When the darkness cleared, they were gone.

It was a fleeting moment but Chen Xiu had always remembered it. He had heard that his brother Yun He was close to the demon lord and the successor too and he was curious. He knows his brother is mischievous and playful but his mind is sharp. He doesn't like hanging out others but for some reason, he had chosen to stick close with the demon lord. He had once mentioned it to the other elementals that he picked up a little kitten which Chen Xiu assumes to be lady Xuan Yi.

Chen Xiu chuckled. How is she a kitten? More like a tigress.

Ever since that day, he tried to find a chance to meet with lady Xuan Yi. He even tagged along with Yun He when he went to the realm of the undead but when he reached, he found out that lady Xuan Yi was in secluded cultivation and would not see guests.

Xuan Yi, on the other hand, was aware of Chen Xiu's attempts to meet her. Which led her to avoid him. She was never acknowledged by the other gods in the heavenly realm and she doesn't seek their acknowledgment either. She is just here to do her job and when her time is up, she will follow her teacher and find peace within her. If possible, she would like to have the least interaction with other gods as possible. Chen Xiu coming to fetch Yun He is most likely something Chen Xiu volunteered. Xuan Yi shook her head. She truly cannot understand the earth god's obsession with her.

This would be their second meeting after that day by the lake. This time, Xuan Yi is somewhat satisfied. At least she maintained her politeness and sent him away. Although she would normally ignore other gods, she cannot do that when the earth god treats her as such. It would be quite rude to do so.

Turning to Yun He, she told him.

"Get it done as soon as possible or else I won't feed you," Xuan Yi then strolled out of the study and headed back to her courtyard, leaving Yun He flabergasted. His little kitten is trying to starve him!

The servants had served some light dishes on the table by the time Xuan Yi reached her courtyard. As they knew their mistress dislike having a heavy meal at such late timings, they have informed the cook to reduce the oil and seasoning just like how their mistress preferred. After laying everything out, they then retreated behind her.

"Yun He is staying here for a while. Have some food prepared and send it over. If he hasn't finished his work, bring the food back." Xuan Yi said before she started eating.

"Yes, mistress." The servants standing behind bowed.

Xuan Yi wanted to slowly enjoy her meal after a day of paperwork but was interrupted by one of the servants rushing in.

"Mistress, the earth god is waiting at the main hall for your presence." It was the maidservant that was escorting Chen Xiu out.

"Why?" Xuan Yi did not put down her chopsticks and continued eating slowly. Her eyes on the maidservant, giving her a sign that she was paying attention to what she is saying.

"This humble servant was escorting Lord Chen Xiu but when we reached the entrance, we saw a water ghost kneeling at the entrance of the palace. The guards say that the water ghost has been kneeling for a few days and wished to speak with mistress. They had refused her entry but she refuses to leave without meeting mistress. Lord Chen Xiu saw this scene and bought the water ghost in. He sent this servant to inform mistress…"

The maidservant dare not continue and she kneeled down.

"This servant is at fault. Please hand down a punishment," the maidservant kowtowed.

Xuan Yi frowned before she waved her hand, stopping the maidservant's actions from damaging her floor.

"You did nothing wrong, stop kneeling. Stand at the side and wait," Xuan Yi ordered before returning to her food. Was she scary to the point where her maidservants would kneel and bang their head against her floor before she reacts to whatever news they bring? Xuan Yi let out a little sigh. The days when she was Empress, she ruled using fear. Her entire courtyard servants feared her, the Imperial Harem feared her and maybe, the Emperor feared her a little too. Which is why he plotted to remove her in the end. Xuan Yi let out another sigh before she put down her chopsticks. Remembering the past has made her lost her appetite.

"You," she pointed to the maidservant who just kneeled on the floor. "Accompany me to the main hall."

The maidservant nodded and hastily hurried over to her mistress side. Together, they made their way towards the main hall.
