"You insolent fool!" I was suddenly jolted up holding my arm with all the strength she could muster.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please let me go!" I cried out.
"You spawn of the devil! I told you never to go out of the room!" I was tugged so much that my arm started to hurt.
"I'm sorry, my book fell down the window while I was cleaning, and I am just trying to get it back…*sob*"
"Did you just talked back to me? You bastard of a child!" She then pulled my hair so strongly that I almost bleed my scalp.
"Please just let me have the book…"
"Book? You meant this piece of trash?" She held out a tattered book that might tore down to pieces by the wind.
"Hahaha you want this book?!" She split the book in half then tore the pages piece by piece.
It pained me not because my scalp was bleeding nor because my arms are bruised but because the world I longed for was getting beat up by the reality I tried to escape.
"Please stop" I cried my eyes out.
I was left with no more strength to carry on, so I ran inside this giant house of nightmare.
I slammed the door of the attic and locked myself up in my only haven.
I crunched down at the tiniest place beside my bed then hummed a tune. I open my mouth then melody came in.
"The lights go out all around me, One last candle to keep out the night And then the darkness surrounds me I know I'm alive but I feel like I've died"
Tears rolled down my cheeks one by one
"And all that's left is to accept that it's over My dreams ran like sand Through the fists that I made… I try to keep warm, but I just grew colder I feel like I'm slipping away"
I hugged my legs closer to chest and took a deep breath.
"After all this has passed, I still will remain After I've cried my last, there'll be beauty from pain Though it won't be today, someday I'll hope again And there'll be beauty from pain."
I ended my song then buried my head unto my body.
I suddenly felt a dreadful chill all over my body
*knock knock*
"Andrea open the door" The stern voice that I've always feared was heard on the other side of the door.
Don't open it! My whole body screamed terror.
"Don't make me say it twice! Andrea!" Father kept slamming the door but I didn't answer.
After a few moment of silence
*Baam!*
The door was slammed open breaking the feeble lock that held it shut.
"I told you not to make me say it twice!" Cold air surrounds this man being.
I made him mad.
"You disrespectful being! I must punish you again, must I?"
He took out the leather whip hanging on his waist He then aimed it at me but before it hits I closed my eyes shut.
___
"-gel!" a voice was calling out to me
"Angel, my dear!" I was shaken awake I looked around then saw a rushing scenery of lined up tall lush trees outside a little window of a strange mechanism that works like a carriage but much faster than it is.
"Angel you're awake…" I looked at my left side and saw an old man with a very worried expression on his dignified wrinkled face.
I just noticed that sweat was running down my forehead and Goosebumps was all over my body.
"You must have had a nightmare, you poor child" He looked at me lovingly and full of care. I've never felt warmth like this before.
"Old master and young miss we have arrived." The assistant said in front of the so called "Car" next to the driver.
"I looked outside the saw a tall gate and we went past it as guards smile and nodded their heads as a form of greeting.
The driver stopped the car then opened the door for me and the old master As soon as I went out a magnificent mansion came unto my view.
"Pretty…" I mumbled but it seems it was loud enough for the old master to hear.
He chuckled, "Isn't it?"
"This will be your home now." As he gazed at his house.
"Home?" I asked with hesitation.
"Yes home." He smiled then led me inside his house What greeted me surprised me the most.
A group of people, seemingly the old master's family, were full of smiles in their faces.
"O-old master…t-this." I stuttered
"Call me grandpa." He said.
"Grand…pa…" I blushed as I said that.
"Welcome to the family Angel Patterson" He smiled as wide as he could I looked at him then at the group of people that seemed so warm I thought.
Maybe living this life will be worth it.
I may have not protected my only family, my mother, from that monster of a father but this time,
I'll protect this family.
