Tragedy

"That kid destroyed a building the moment he was born, what if he got angry and self-destructed, killing me, my wife, and my son. I'm sorry, Jackson, but I know what he is, and you know what he is. A vile creature like that shouldn't be allowed to walk among humankind."

"Ok, I'll make some calls. I'll do my best to rest Subject Zero out of your control."

Shocked and confused, I tried to piece together and rationalize the information I had received. Without having enough time even to gather my thoughts, I heard movement on the other side of the door, and out of fear, I ran. I ran faster and harder than I had ever run in my life in an attempt to not be caught by my father and the colonel.

I ran out of the HQ and quickly grabbed my hoverboard, using it to fly as fast as I could towards the house, not stopping until I arrived 100 yards before the house, then I jumped into the bushes and pulled out my phone.

Quickly scrolling through my cell phone contacts, I landed on Camilla's image and dialed.

-------------------------------

Buzz... Buzz...

While sitting on the couch adjacent to the dining room, Camilla looked down at her phone, a confused expression appearing on her face, as she answered in a hushed tone.

"Hello? Jacob... why are you calling me we're all waiting for you and your dad, so we can begin eating... damn your mother can be strict."

In a half sobbing tone, I began to break down, and hurriedly asked, "Camilla, I just... I can't come inside right now can you meet me outside in the woods behind the house."

"Yeah sure, just give me five minutes, and I'll be right out."

"Thank you."

Ending the call Camilla looked over to Herald who sat across from her.

----------------------------------------------

After about ten minutes, I saw Camilla leave the house, and make her way around back to the woods. As she drew closer to my position, I softly called out to her, prompting her to move in my direction.

The moment she found me, I immediately embraced her and began sobbing.

"Camilla... Camilla... I don't know what's happening. I went to go get dad, and I heard somethings that I don't think I was supposed to know."

Confused, yet intrigued, Camilla asked: "What did you hear that would put you into his kind of state?"

Having not fully digested the words spoken by the man I thought was my father. I began to divulge the conversation to Camilla, looking for sympathy, and for help in understanding my situation.

Through abated breaths, and tears, I told Camilla everything, and the more I said, the weirder her expression became. To be more specific, it seemed to be a mix of shock, intrigue, and happiness?

'why does she seem happy' I thought to myself.

After I was finished, she began speaking.

"So, from what I gather, your father is not your real father, your mother is not your real mother, and your brother is not your real brother. Further, your some kind of monster who at birth destroyed a building."

"I don't know, that's just what I heard."

"That's absurd, how do you even know that he was talking about you? How do you even know that it was your dad speaking? Did you see him?"

"No... I..."

"That's right you don't know, you're just overdramatic as usual. Come on I'll take you someplace to cool down and think."

Hearing the logic behind Camilla's words, I began to calm down and began following her deeper into the forest, wondering where we might be going.

After a while I noticed Camilla grab her phone and text, someone, prompting me to try and look over her shoulder to see who she was messaging, after a while of not gathering any information I asked: "So... who are you texting? Should I be jealous?"

Color flushed from her face as she responded: "Haha, no, I'm just responding to a question one of my friends from back home asked."

"Anything interesting?"

"Not really... Look, we're here!"

In front of me, as the forest opened up, I was greeted with a view of the scar in the earth representing the entrance to the most massive dungeon on earth 'El Dorado'

Somewhat confused, I asked: "What are we doing here?"

With a composed smile Camilla replied: "I know how much you're looking forward to entering the dungeon tomorrow if you awaken, so I thought it'd take your mind off things to come and take a look at the grand entrance to the dungeon. Let's get closer!"

We began to move closer and closer to the entrance of the dungeon until we arrived at the edge of the cliff, separating us from the dangers below.

Suddenly a strong gust of wind blew past, causing us to lose our footing, luckily I caught myself rather quickly, however, Camilla began stumbling towards the edge of the cliff.

I quickly reached out my arms, drawing them across her waist, pulling her into me and away from the abyss below.

A little shocked Camilla noticed my hands around her waist and the closeness of our faces, causing her face to blush pink, seeing her blush caused my face to turn light red. Reading the atmosphere, I moved in to kiss her for the first time.

However, before the deed could be done a low yell directed at me came from the forest.

"Jacob, get away from her now!"

Turning my head, I said, "Herald? What are you doing here?"

Laughing, he got right up next to me and whispered: "What wouldn't I be doing here. It was my idea to bring you here."

Hearing this, Camilla pushed herself away from me and began cackling.

"You dim wit did you think that I was going to kiss you, I've never even liked you. I don't know why my father would even engage me to a half baked banana slug like you. But, I still have to thank you, because if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have met my true love."

Having heard this, my eyes began to dart between Herald and Camilla.

"That's right, 'Brother.' Actually **** that, I've known since the beginning that we aren't related, I mean look at you. We look completely different, besides that I've overheard mother and father talking about how they took you in after some explosion, and that you used to be some lab rat."

With every passing second, my heart sank, and I began to lose feeling in my limbs, while my eyes tunneled.

Herald noticing my despondency, smiled and grabbed me by the neck, and started pulling me closer to the edge of the cliff.

"Slug, I have to thank you for allowing me to get rid of you. Allowing me to be with the love of my life. It would've been awkward forcing you to become a cuckold; however, you've given me the chance to save both of us from such shame."

Drawing me over the abyss that is the entrance to the dungeon, Herald proceeded to say: "Any last words?"

Refusing to give him any satisfaction, I opted to say nothing. Instead, I looked dead into Camilla's eyes, pleading for her help. She was the woman whom I loved, and whom I thought loved me back — the woman who always protected me from the words of my older brother — the woman who comforted me when I was in distress.

However, this time in return to my pleading gaze, Camilla responded: "What's that look for? Slugs should be salted."

Hearing this, my heart shattered, and I began plummeting into the Dark Abyss.
