Rey vs Smoker

Since the battle between Hina and Smoker ended recently they were given half an hour's time to recover from their exhaustion.

Rey to recover from his exhausted state rushed to the kitchen and ate tons of meat. Thanks to the rich energy carried within the meat, he was able to recover fast and reached his peak state.

"Rey, did you recover from your weakness?" Mia concernedly asked.

"Yes"

"How are you going to defeat Smoker who has gained the name of undefeatable recruit in training camp? Moreover, he is a devil fruit user who ate the Smoke-Smoke fruit."

"It is a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to create, control, and transform into smoke at will." Mia worriedly spoke.

"Don't worry, I will be fine," Rey comforted Mia.

Rey knows very well about the power of Smoker's Logia fruit which grants him the power to transform into a cloud of smoke. Furthermore, the main offensive capability of the fruit is the ability to change the density of the smoke.

The famous Smoker who got the name 'The White Hunter' because of his ability to surround his targets with his intangible smoke and then solidify it to grasp them.

And, Smoker also uses a weapon, which is a long Jitte and quite proficient in it. Rey doesn't know whether he uses the weapon now.

Today, Rey's intention is different from winning since he knows its impossible to strike logia without Haki. He wants to use Smoker as his training partner and train his senses which will help him when he learns haki.

"It's going to be a one-sided battle, that recruit Rey is strong but he won't be able to win against a logia user." A marine soldier said.

"Yes, it's such a pity"

"Garp, did you teach him haki?" Sengoku asked.

"No, that kid needed tempering so I simply taught him Rokushiki and tossed him over an island filled with vicious creatures for him to survive and train. I only picked him back a week before the ranking assessment." Garp smirked.

"What? Garp san, how could you do that to a kid who only recently started to train." Aokiji asked with a shocked face; He couldn't imagine how Rey survived such a dangerous Island alone.

"Hehe, Aokiji brat, that kid has the potential to become stronger than Admirals and he proved it by surviving in that Island with his skills alone." Garp seriously spoke.

"Unbelievable! Z sensei, how's Smoker's strength?" Aokiji asked.

"He's not bad but he mainly relies on his devil fruit", Z said.

"Anyway, Rey won't be able to win Smoker without Haki so the result is clear", Sengoku spoke while Aokiji and Z also nodded his head.

"Bwahaha, Sengoku, don't judge that brat with your common understanding, He will surely surprise you!"

Both Rey and Smoker entered the battle stage and waited for the instructor to commence the battle.

"You won't be able to win me," Smoker stated.

Smoker looked exactly the same as in the series, but he had military hair cut and wore a normal marine recruit uniform.

"Smoker... is this your real name or it's just because of your devil fruit powers?" Rey leisurely asked as if he's not in the battle stage.

"What?" Smoker was confused by Rey's question. Before he could reply, the instructor started the battle.

'Begin!'

Smoker thought Rey would attack him with his full strength but contrary to his expectation, he calmly stood in the same spot.

Everyone was surprised by the stillness in the arena and confused by Rey's action, even Garp, Sengoku, Z and Aokiji.

'What is that brat doing?' Garp thought.

Smoker was infuriated seeing his opponent's action, so he instantly took action.

'White Out!'

Smoker shot clouds of smoke from his arms and tried to engulf Rey and trap him inside but Rey easily dodged the smoke and appeared some distance away from the attack using 'Soru'.

Like before, after escaping the attack, Rey didn't attack Smoker and simply stood in the same place; Even his eyes are closed.

"This brat, don't tell me...?" Garp exclaimed.

Smoker charged at Rey and decided to take initiative. 'White Blow!'

His one arm turned into smoke and fired at Rey while Smoker transformed into a cloud of smoke and dashed towards Rey.

As before, Rey dodged the attack and retreated some distance from Smoker.

"What is this? Are they playing Cat and Mouse Game in the final round of the assessment?" A marine soldier exclaimed.

Suddenly Smoker appeared before Rey and punched him the face. The unbelievable part is, Rey didn't dodge the attack as he was punched.

No...No...I have to concentrate on my senses, not to use my ear.' Rey reflected.

Yes, Rey was trying to comprehend the observation Haki but it was too difficult for him without any knowledge or guidance.

One was in hot pursuit while the other was escaping, it looked funny and amusing from the onlooker point of view.

'White Spark!'

Smoker transformed his whole body into a cloud of dense smoke and encircled Rey, not providing any opening of retreat.

'Observation Haki is the extent of one's imagination and sensing one's unique aura. So even if I use my ears to sense, it's not wrong in starting point of learning.'

He could discern Smoker blocked his all point of retreat and surrounded him with his smoke powers but this is what Rey wanted right now.

He is not worried about losing but afraid of not learning anything from his defeat.

So Rey didn't attempt to escape from Smoker's encirclement and waited for his opponent's attack to practice his sense.

Using his inhuman hearing ability, he tried to sense Smoker's attack and successfully dodged some, but Rey was also hit by some of the attacks.

"Arara, what a terrifying young man! As soon as he perceives he won't be able to win, he used the battle with Smoker as a training opportunity," Aokiji exclaimed and shocked Rey's idea.

"Bwahaha, This brat keeps surprising me," Garp laughed loud.

Soon, Rey was easily able to elude Smoker's attack which could be easily sensed using his hearing sense.

Smoker was provoked and annoyed by Rey's fighting style. And, this is also his first time confronting someone who was effortlessly able to dodge his attack.

He was panting for air as continuous use of devil fruit powers surely exhaust his stamina and strength.

Rey opened his eyes and smirked noticing Smoker's expression. "Even if you have eaten a logia fruit, you should know how to use utilize it properly. It would be a loss if you can't even catch pirates with your powers."

"You..." Smoker once again charged at his opponent clearly provoked by Rey's words. Smoker was arrogant so he didn't practice his physical strength like others relying completely on his fruit powers.

"Garp, train him well, he's good. I think a new era is going to arrive, and it's time for our next-generation youth to shine." Sengoku uttered.

"Bwahaha, Sengoku, are you feeling old?" Garp chuckled.
