In the hospital, Jax was talking on the phone while he sat next to Amelia's bed, he had called Paul of the incident and that Amelia was fine at the moment.
After he had hung up, he noticed that Amelia was waking up, she looked confused.
"Hey you're going to be ok, you're safe now, so try to calm down, you can't move around too much you broke a few ribs." Said Jax in a soft and relaxing tone.
Amelia nodded "Where am I?"
"A hospital, I could deal with the bruises on your face myself at home, but I didn't know if you had punctured a lung, I already called your father he'll be here soon." (Jax)
"Thanks, Jax" (Amelia)
"Oh? You actually know my name now that's surprising." (Jax)
"Yeah Dad won't shut up about you, he's a little salty that you're already better at playing the guitar than he is. He loves it, playing with you that is, so even if you're not coming over for lessons anymore, stop by sometimes, yeah?" (Amelia)
"Sure thing, never expected our first conversation to be like this though. We never talked before I was starting to think that you didn't like me." (Jax)
Amelia had a really awkward and slightly embarrassed expression, it was true, even though they've seen each other a few times
at Paul's store, Jax was always met with silence.
Seeing how she kept silent Jax just revealed a small smile.
"Don't worry I can guess that it's his fault you probably also haven't kept in touch with your friends, you were even thinking about moving out and leaving your father." (Jax)
Amelia looked at him with her mouth open in shock.
"I won't ask you to confirm anything or for details, but if you ever want to talk I'll listen. And you probably don't want to hear it but you have to leave him, we both know that this isn't the first time, and that it definitely won't be the last, this time he broke your ribs what will it be next time. (Jax)
"How" Jax looked at her to indicate that she should elaborate. "How did you know it wasn't the first time ?" (Amelia)
"While you were unconscious, I checked your body for injuries, you jerked your leg, so I thought you hurt yourself when you fell, so I ... ripped your tights and saw the bruises on both your legs they were most likely around a week old"
Jax looked away from Amelia before he continued.
"You also have a pretty new scar on your hand, the scab should've just fallen off, it looks like it was made by a knife and he had pulled one out so ..." (Jax)
"What? ... Are you really 13 years old?" (Amelia)
"Yeah, my dad's the police, chief remember? Anyway, you should get some rest before our fathers get here.? (Jax)
Ten minutes later both Charlie and Paul came into the room.
"Are you OK/hurt?"(Paul/Charlie)
Both Amelia and Jax looked at the doorway where their fathers stood and started laughing.
"See I told you they're worried as hell" (Jax)
"JACKSON!! How can you laugh, do you know how stupid that was, he was armed, you should've called for help and waited, instead of running into danger like that." (Charlie)
While Charlie was scolding Jax, Paul was checking up on his daughter after making sure she was going to be OK he held his hand and said:
"Brat thank you for saving my daughter but your father is right that was too dangerous." (Paul)
"Hey, why am I getting double-teamed here? First of all, if I had waited she would be dead, he pulled a knife before I got there, secondly, all I did was what I was trained to do in a fight, and lastly he was drunk he probably couldn't even properly see me." (Jax)
Charlie and Paul were shocked at Jax's outburst it seemed like he had really thought things through before acting.
"But did you really have to break his arm?" (Charlie)
"How else was I supposed to have him drop his knife, overpower him?" (Jax)
Charlie was speechless he had no answer to the question his son had asked.
"Umm, excuse me, I would like to put him in jail I don't want him to walk free anymore." Amelia suddenly cut into the conversation.
"You mean that ...?" (Charlie)
"Yes, that's right it has happened before." (Amelia)
"What are you serious Amelia?" (Paul)
Amelia just gave her father a sad smile answering to his question, then she looked at Jax and Chief Swan.
Before the Chief could continue he got a phone call so he excused himself and walked to a corner of the room.
"Well, I guess that's my cue to leave, this doesn't really concern me and it's pretty personal, relax you'll be fine," Jax told Amelia as he walked to the door.
"You won't need to Jax" Charlie suddenly said in a serious voice before Jax could leave.
"What do you mean?" (Jax) Everyone looked at the Chief while they were clearly confused.
"She only needs to make a statement about what happened tonight, not about the previous incidents." (Charlie)
"What? Why? Don't tell me he's going to get away with it. (Amelia)
"No, he passed away he cracked his skull and had a brain bleed he died in the patrol car they're doing an autopsy right now." (Charlie)
"WHAT?!!" (Amelia and Paul)
Jax was speechless he hadn't expected the guy to die.
"So I need to take your statements if I want to help Jax." (Charlie)
And so he took their statements, the culprit had too much to drink he had gotten violent because she smiled at a friend who was sitting next to a man and he started to hit her once they got to the alley.
Jax had explained from the moment he got there, how he broke his arm and how he had knocked the man out. He had also added that he shouldn't have hit him hard enough to crack the man's skull or cause a brain bleed.
The four waited for the autopsy to finish and the CSI unit to check out the alley.
Turns out they found a brick close to the area where the man fell matched a second head injury that caused the brain bleed it was just bad luck.
Charlie hugged Jax while saying 'you're going to be fine' over and over Jax was still stunned not because he had killed someone albeit indirectly, but because he had never seen anyone so unlucky.
'Is this karma' he thought while he caught Amelia looking relieved
"You're relieved shouldn't you be pissed? I mean I did kinda kill your boyfriend." (Jax)
"I haven't loved him in a long time I was afraid of what might happen," Amelia said with a smile.
That's how their real first meeting went, Amelia, Paul, and Jax got closer to each other, Jax had gone to visit her in the hospital and later at the store to play rock songs together, Paul, he was a better drummer than a guitarist and Amelia played the bass, they played nearly every day till he had to leave, a few months later.
In these months he had finished the school year and left Forks before the break ended and the new school year started.
