chapter 2

Music played in the court as Kara's father sat at his throne a stern look on his face.

"Why must you fight me so. We are not doing well enough for you to be picky with a husband"

Kara stared off through one of the court's window. "I've told you why. This isn't a marriage you speak of, it's more like your selling me. And I am not going to condone your greed."

The king banged his drink hard against the arm of his throne. The whole court jumps and goes silent as even the people who played music stopped. As the music started back up again, there were whispers.

Kara looked over at her father to dare see his face. She knew saying such things was tempting fate but she couldn't be pushed on the subject without her saying her peace.

The king's face was contorted with anger. His dark brown eyes glaring as his wrinkled skin squinted at Kara. His fingers holding tightly to the metal handle of his mug as it bent with the strength of his fingers.

"Daughter, we are at war we have no time for your fantasies."

Kara fully tired of her father stood and glared back. "They are not fantasies they are my feelings and my wishes!"

With those words she stormed out as quickly as she could before her father could retort. She had finally decided maybe time was right now to leave.

She leaned against the wall outside the court and looked at the garden before her. The garden was slowly dying due to the weather turning to winter and she sighed. She hated to see such beautiful flowers and trees dying. The sounds from the courtroom rung out even through the doors. Kara sighed heavily as she looked up at the stars.

"I wonder if he's looking at the same stars as I am." She whispered to herself. The moon was huge and bright and shined onto the courtyard as she made her way back up to her room. She had a lot of planning to do. She grabbed ahold of her necklace tightly, she also felt something was going on with her beloved and she had to go.
