Chapter 54: It’s a Little Embarrassing to Say...

The middle-aged couple in the snack shop are Ji Weitian's foster parents: Shen Yixian and Lin Ci.

Earlier, their attention was all focused on their granddaughter. Then they realized a young boy similar in age was standing behind her.

He was dressed in a suit, an outfit which was more upscale than they had ever seen before.

The boy had a gorgeous face, he looked like a... a model you'd see on TV, and was actually even more handsome.

Shen Yixian, who stood aside, walked up with a big smile. "Little Bro, thank you for taking our Yaoyao back home. It's too hot outside, come on in."

He smiled so big that his eyes were almost invisible. While he was very tanned, his kind smile made him seem easy-going and friendly.

Shen Yixian picked up Qin Morui's hand and took him inside his store. He moved the boy into a chair.

He put down a bottle of milk in front of the boy.

"Kid, you must be thirsty. Have some milk."

"Thanks grandpa." Qin Morui took the milk and unscrewed the top. He didn't rush to drink it, however, as he handed the milk to Ji Xingyao. "Little sister, you drink first."

When Shen Yixian saw this, his eyes looked even more nurturing. He got another bottle for the boy and opened it for him.

He patted the boy's head and sighed, "already so caring at a young age, you're such a good kid."

"My name is Qin Morui. You can call me Little Ruirui." The boy drank the milk while also chatting. His eyes were busy looking at the kitchen in the snack shop.

The snack shop the Shens operated sold spicy hot pot, fermented tofu, scallion and egg crepes, and more, none of which he's ever had before. Even the photos looked delicious.

Pan-fried tofu sat on a table not far from them, giving off a delicious scent.

Qin Morui couldn't resist drooling.

He remembered how he didn't have any money, but he was too embarrassed to say he wanted to eat.

While he agonized if he should borrow money from the girl, his stomach grumbled.

"Gooloo -- gooloo -- " The growling was very loud.

The boy covered his face in embarrassment. He was too mortified.

"Little Ruirui is hungry?" Shen Yixian was a little startled. Then he smiled and called to his wife, "Hey wifey, stop what you're doing, get the kids something to eat."

When he heard there's food, Qin Morui immediately looked up. Then he blushed and mumbled, "I... I don't have any money."

Not only did he not have money, he owed the girl a pair of shoes. He even gave her his heirloom jade pendant as a collateral.

He had nothing of value on him right now.

"No money needed. You brought Yaoyao back. Grandpa will treat you to the food, it's our thanks to you." Shen Yixian answered and headed toward the kitchen. A small hand reached out to grab his shirt.

Qin Morui looked up. His bright black eyes didn't blink as he asked, "really? No money needed?"

"Really. Finish this milk first. I'll make you guys food now."

"Grandpa, I want to eat this." Qin Morui's finger pointed toward a picture of fermented tofu.

"And this." A picture of spicy hot pot.

"And this yellow thing." A picture of scallion and egg crepes.

"It's a little embarrassing to say... Grandpa, I also want some fried chicken." Qin Morui looked at the shop across from the Shens' snack shop. It's a fried chicken place, with a big yellow dog laying in front. He tried to swallow his drool.
