While the two leaders were fighting the others, of course, hadn't stopped but in the time that had past much hadn't happened.
The same trend of lions being smacked aside by mutants, and then the lions lost being replaced by older or younger ones every time this happened.
Right now, every person capable of fighting in the Lion tribe would be doing so before becoming food to a monkey or worse.
However, the fighting strength of these replacements was low and mostly meat to keep the monkey occupied so that the people still fighting weren't overrun.
Their hopes were now all on the matriarch who had mostly abandoned them already; they didn't just know this.
Since the very matriarch was now only thinking about what she could do to inflict casualties before running away, as she still had good chances doing so while noting that her tribe was already doomed.
Her only reason to keep a tribe anyways was to bolster her own defence, and so if they wouldn't win she would, in turn, turn her back on her children and grandchildren without a second thought.
Though before she would be running away, she wanted to take care of the human who had orchestrated all of this.
She roared once before starting the fight for real this time. Her predictable swings of paws now changed into kicks and bites, making dodging them harder by a wide margin.
He hadn't realised the full combat power of this lion.
Still somehow keeping up with the Lion tribe's matriarch Xiao Fan now just wanted to stall her and then gang up on her with every mutant they had or let her escape.
But the latter choice seemed to be impossible now as he could tell that she now wanted to finish him before doing anything else.
And the former choices was also dimming down, leaving him the hardest option of taking care of this lion himself with his power and body.
Not the best choice by any stretch of the imagination, but sometimes that was the only one left.
He started his only accessible plan by retreating into any place that had ground differences or natural barriers because there the lion's mobility was somewhat slowed, and more random opportunities could be come across by them.
Like a random dead tree hanging about which, Xiao Fan would then throw or smack towards her, or a slip in motions could happen from either one giving either one opportunities to strike.
He wanted to get more random chances while knowing full well that they worked in both directions.
One of these random opportunities came across them when he was running around a place that seemed to be a dump for bones from the Lion tribes hunts.
Amidst the skeletons, there was a massive horn that couldn't be compared to a few fingers in length lion tooth he had had before.
It was a massive horn over the length of his leg at least and being a two-handed sword or a spear in his hands.
After grabbing onto this makeshift weapon, the fighting became much more comfortable as a swing from the horn could deter any approach that the lion could do.
But there was also that soon the lion matriarch figured out that swinging the stick was slow, and when she had made a fake attack could a good opportunity appear to make a real attack towards the human who had both of his hands tied to a useless weapon.
When she did so, a face of panic flashed on Xiao Fan's face, as he immediately jumped back, ditching his weapon for the rest of the fight.
Now again taking attacks from the lion with his bare hands, he started to feel a shakiness coming from them and decided to lessen his counter attacks even more to preserve any strength left in his hands before they would break.
Doing so, he was almost donating full charge of their fights pacing to his enemy, which the lion discerned and took it with no objections, hailing even more attacks with her paws and body.
However, somehow the first to land a meaningful blow on either one was Xiao Fan.
The lion had gone for a bite attack somewhat resembling the monkey kick attack which to he was very acquainted with, so when it had come there came tested and practised counter to it.
He opened his side, but before she was about to strike his stomach, the elbow that had been the counter to too many monkey missile kicks came bearing on her head.
And unlike the monkeys who got hitten into the stomach, she was hit somewhere else.
The lion would feel the sudden elbow in her nose which sends her rolling down a steep mound, they had been fighting on top of.
Her rolling down wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but Xiao Fan hadn't wanted this as without this happening he could have pummeled the lion with even harder hits before it could have retreated, but now it had escaped that fate by rolling down.
On the other hand, the lion who felt a small crack on his nose didn't feel happy at all even if she had dodged the rest of the attack as to how could she know what he was thinking?
She after getting back onto her legs for a moment glared at him before running up the slope towards him.
After this, Xiao Fan's luck ran out, and the next wound either of them would be taking was him.
First, from a swing to his already hurt shoulder received marks from three claws that had gently touched him.
Another one was then coming straight after in the form of a bite towards his stomach, wanting to bite it in half.
Xiao Fan, when seeing this knew there wasn't t enough time to dodge it completely tried his best to minimise the damage.
Trying his best, her mouth bit his shoulder, clamping hard on it as the long fangs filling the lion's mouth bit down on it.
Xiao Fan immediately screamed from the pain but following that he also felt more and more adrenal pumping to his body, giving him some reasoning and ample amount of rage.
One of his hands was now fully out of commission, he with his wounded arm, and the reasoning part reached out towards his pockets looking and finding a lions tooth.
And just before his shoulder was about to be ripped a swift movement of his hand nailed a finger-sized tooth aimed into her throat with the rage part infused into the action.
From it, the lion squirmed her mouth shut for a moment as it started to loosen her grip on him.
But he had by now reached towards his pocked again and was proceeding to nail another lion tooth next to the last tooth that was inside her throat.
Despite, all that pain the lion could make the reasonable decision of letting go and retreating entirely from the battlefield; she was wounded, and by now, her tribes should be fighting with its last legs.
So if she didn't leave soon, the wounds would bleed too much, and furthermore, there would be enemy reinforcements.
However, she hadn't expected that her tribe had lost this badly as when she was running away from the opponent that wasn't following her anymore was she was met by at least ten or more mutants on her path of retreat.
Time had come to an end for her, and that was because the hundred lions from yesterday had been lost. Making her calculations about today off, and she would feel it very well as around ten monkeys started to rip every part of her body.
There was no fight anymore.
Limb by limb piece by piece, the matriarch lost her body parts and even watched the monkeys starting to eat the part they had just ripped from her while she was still alive.
This wasn't the ending she had wanted, but then the animal world usually doesn't care for one's wishes.
For some reason, when it came to any other lion, no monkey tortured nor ate them alive. It was only so in the case of the matriarch who had wounded Xiao Fan.
Xiao Fan himself also watched her being mutilated from the side.
Though he was happy about her being dead after what she had done to him; he also didn't want to see himself turn like that someday and would prefer to kill himself before someone would eat him alive.
The lion matriarchs howls could still be heard as Du Lan made her appearance next to him. ¨You'r hurt again!¨ She said while coming to look at his wounds.
He was in better condition compared to his state after the breakthrough, but it wasn't a good one either.
Xiao Fan's shoulder had now four massive teeth marks and multiple smaller ones, and from the four major one was a critical one as it had hit a primary vein.
He was also very much so squirming in pain, but trying to hold it in as he pointed his finger towards the supply squad ¨Go get my back bag. There's a first aid kit there¨
She didn't say more and moments later came back to his side and opened his bag that was made out of straws.
¨What you need from here?¨ While rummaging through his bag back.
¨There's a slimy mass there somewhere tucked inside leaves¨
¨Found it!¨ As her hand hit a leaf ball that was all mushy like.
¨Good now carefully apply to every part you see that has any wounds the slime is a potent medication, and after taking it I will be okay¨ He also at the same time undressed his top side while saying so.
Du Lan's eyes now for the first time landed on his naked top side, and a small blush covered her face, but it wasn't from his skinny body where every bone could be counted.
Seeing this, she thought that Xiao Fan had been starved to death at some point in his life; there is no other reason for this, she thought.
Applying the slime to his shoulders that looked like a person almost starving, she stayed still resolute and didn't think of asking about his weight.
She knew the answer couldn't be anything good. Since a cultivator like him should have no problem in hunting around here, so the only explanation to be given was going to be a terrible one at best.
It took her ten or so minutes before only one wound was left untreated on the other shoulder the bite marks were.
A hole big enough for an arrow was there and one would even say that it had gone through the shoulder to his armpit.
¨Is there where I hit you when we met?¨ She asked in a low voice.
After being applied the slime and a self-made dressing over it, he had gone from the critically injured state into a state of healing and zero combat power one.
And as he was about to answer her but before he got his mouth open, Lei came running towards him. ¨Second in command what are we going to do with the prisoners?¨ He began asking a weird question that he had never thought of asking.
Something like this was never heard before, yet it had happened because the lions had seen a human leading the monkeys.
The lions, when seeing this, opened a new possibility to survive or so some of them thought and surrendered like a beast would to a man.
Some of these would still be slaughtered, but even the monkeys took their idea and preferred to ask and not sorry later.
And the one to send to ask him with this message was, of course, Xiao Fan's one and only real confidant Lei.
For a moment, Xiao Fan became overly joyed about this; this was like getting free workforce he thought, and who wouldn't want that to happen? But soon enough reality hit him, as there was only one thing they could be useful anymore...
As in the prisoners there would be at best only a few lions still capable of fighting and most of them would be severely wounded ones, so their value had dropped drastically to say it bluntly.
¨Gather them up and make sure none of them escapes they aren't welcome, but I have still plans for them!¨ He said while shooing Lei away, and turned back to face Du Lan.
¨What did you say?¨ He asked her who was applying the slime to her own made arrow hole that had already mostly sealed if looked from the outside while the inside was still very much healing.
¨Is this my arrow hit?¨ She said while poutingly poke his wound; he had dared not to answer her before a monkey, making her vexed.
Xiao Fan didn't realise anything else than her looking slightly angry at him for no reason ¨Yeah... but look how good it has healed in such a short amount of time¨
Only then Du Lan studied at how much it healed, and it did truly surprise her when she realised it. She had only a week ago made this hole, yet now it was already healed up while there was only a bright round scar left on his skin.
She had heard how much better a cultivators healing was but to this extent? No way! But then what had made it heal so quickly?
Du Lan did think for a moment, but not for long as she took a look at her hand which had a thick green slime still on it.
¨What is this slime?¨ She asked while getting very curious about it because to her knowledge nothing this potent was sold around here.
To her question, Xiao Fan chuckled a bit before starting to tell her.
