"This doesn't make any sense." Ying Yue mumbled as she looked over the medical reports again. She screwed up her face and released a frustrated sound.
" No.. this cannot be right." She picked reached up to pick up the intercom phone from the side table from where she was sitting on the floor, surrounded by her grandfather's reports.
She dialled a number, and held the phone between her shoulder and face while looking at the last blood culture result.
" Uncle Yin, can you send me all the reports of grandfather's? I want everything." She told him when he picked up the call but disconnected it before he could reply to her.
She did not look up when she heard a set of footsteps coming into her room.
" Come have lunch. You have been here cloistered since dinner last night." Jiao Long said as he made his way towards his obsessive cousin.
He sat down on her four-poster bed.
" Mother is over the moon that you signed away your rights." He started talking, knowing she would take in his words, even though she hadn't lifted her head to even look at him.
" She is over the moon that she can live in the city, and hang out with her friends more often, as you know she has never liked this house. But…"
" But you do not want to leave, and are nervous about taking over the company." She summarised his unsaid words for him, without lifting looking up.
"Yes." He agreed.
" Don't be a weak ass. You were born ready. You have been running the company by yourself for the last few years. Grandpa just made it official. And as for living here… are you out of your mind?" She finally looked up. " Get an apartment and live with your girlfriend. I am sure you can think of something to make sure Aunt will not find about it. Cut Jade and yourself some slack, and have fun. Besides, it is high time you moved out, don't you think?"
Jian Long let out a laugh and met her stare head-on.
" Elder Chen is sick and you are finally back. How can I just leave?" He asked.
" Exactly. I am here. You should go and live your life finally, you can visit us every other day. At least start calling grandfather grandfather." She said with a stern look.
" Stop giving grandpa that much influence over your life. I know I shouldn't be saying this, but I need to.. for your sake. I love grandpa. But he is controlling, opinionated, demanding, prejudiced and is bad at expressing himself. He is a force of nature. He can overshadow your opinions with his. It took me living away from here to even realise that I don't like half the things I convinced myself were my favourites, just to please him. He never outright forced me, but it just happened. If that is the case for me, I bet it would be worse for you. And let's add Aunt into the equation. You should move out, be with Jade, explore yourself. You are thirty two years old. Live a little already." She said seriously.
He did not look away. Seemed to be taking in her words. But she did not have any hope of him realising the depth of what she was saying. For her, it was easy to overthrow her grandpa's opinions because she knew he will never stop loving her or be disappointed with her. But for him, it was different. Grandfather's resentment for Jin Young, his father was never a secret. Their grandmother should have been the one who hated JinYoung, but she raised both Elder Chen's sons with the same love and caring.
" Your appointment ceremony will be in a week." He completely overrode what she said, after a short amount of silence.
" Sure, a week before I find investors." She muttered, going back to studying the reports.
" He will be alright, won't he?" He asked, his voice a little husky as he looked at the test results scattered around his cousin.
"Yes. Once I figure what is actually wrong with him." She said puzzled.
