" I did not faint." Elder Huo grumbled a little as he looked at his granddaughter. Ying Yue did not deign to reply to him, just raised an eyebrow and looked at the group of doctors standing at the foot of the bed her grandfather was 'forced' to rest. She knew it was not their fault for looking incompetent before this virus. Even Tara had trouble with the nasty infectious agent.
" Tara?" Asked Ying Yue. Her friend was on the side of the room, looking through the tests results.
" Give me a minute." She said as she looked through the reports she grabbed from the doctors as soon as she was called to come inside the room by Ying Yue.
Her reply made Ying Yue more nervous than she already was.
The door to the room opened and everyone in her family came inside. They seemed to be worried.
" What is wrong with you people? I am fine. I just fell asleep." Sneered Elder Huo, which looked contradictory with the paleness of his skin.
" Just stop it. Will you?" Ying Yue shouted at her grandfather. " You and your stupid lies. Just stop it okay?"
She stomped out of the room, tears pouring out of her eyes. She knew she was overreacting, but she was worried. She almost had a heart attack thinking that something had happened to her grandfather. She was not sure what was going to do when he gets worse. Thanks to her medical knowledge, she knew exactly how worse it was going to get for her grandfather if they did not find a cure.
No one followed her, thankfully. She took the stairs again, and planned to go to the parking lot with her bike. She knew the last thing she should be doing is running away. Again. She saw a beautiful garden on the way, which she had missed while she was rushing on her way up. She halted to look at the three kids who were sitting in the wheel chair there. Two guys and one girl around twelve years old. They were hooked to an IV bag and looked like death had warmed over, but they were smiling. And laughing. Something about that scene touched a deep part of her. She exhaled, and sat down on one of the metal chairs in the garden. She was sure she looked creepy, looking at a bunch of kids, but something about them made her feel ashamed of herself.
She wanted to become a doctor when she came to know the truth about her parents. But she couldn't go through with it after she lost a patient in the operating room. She should not have gone inside that operating room, but she was young and reckless, and so sure that she could save the patient. Her arrogance and foolishness killed a person that day, and she knew she did not deserve to be a doctor. She also knew she was not strong enough to be one either. So she went back to creating cosmetics, the ones that her father loved making. She sighed as she looked at them, the kids were enjoying just by breathing in the fresh air and talking, but no matter what she did, she seemed incapable of finding any sort of peace.
She was great at running away. Avoiding her problems. But she cannot afford to do it this time. She did not have much time with her grandfather, and there were a million other things she needed to make right. She sighed again.
She stood up and made her way to the stairs once again as she wiped her face with both her hands. She started climbing up the stairs, one at a time, making a checklist of the things that needed to be done. By the time she reached the seventh floor, she was profusely sweating but at the same time, she was also determined. Determined to set things right. All the things. Starting with finding the one who dared to create the virus and eliminating the virus and him.
