she breathed in and was about to open the door when someone spoke.
"are you alright, ma'am?"
she blankly stared at the nurse beside her. "i am."
the nurse's gaze fell upon her trembling hand lying on the doorknob. "you aren't supposed to be here."
"i'm visiting a friend."
"there is no one in there." says the nurse.
she bit her lip as she held it in. she knew he's in there, waiting for her to come.
but of course, who would believe her?
it took a while for her to respond, trying as hard as she can, not to tear up."s-since when?"
"since February 14, ma'am." her heart ached again. what happened that day haunts her even in her sleep up until now.
another nurse came up, wearing her usual poker face. she sighed and look at her tirelessly, "you're here again?"
"p-please let me in, one last time." her eyes became blurry as she clenched her other fist, nails digging into her palm. she can't cry now. well, at least not in front of them.
"but ma'am that room is haunted!" the other one exclaimed.
"w-what?"
"ma'am, haven't you heard about the rumors? every single person who comes in here dies."
the nurse in poker faceㅡwho knew her and even the guy she expects to be in thereㅡfrowned. "how many times do we have to tell you he already passed away?"
she shook her head. "i don't believe you."
the other one was about to speak when they heard a man crying. the nurses took a step back as they have gone all pale.
her eyes widened as he heard his loud voice saying "i'm not coming with you!"
she quickly went in to check if he's alright.
he was there, standing beside the hospital bed. she broke into tears as soon as she sees him.
"i-i love you," a faint whisper escaped from her lips as she sobbed uncontrollably.
he moved closer and wrapped his hands around her, forming a tight embrace.
"i love you too,"
she looked up to him, tears rolling onto her cheeks. "but this is wrong. you're already dead!"
he just smiled.
in just a blink, they were already in another room. there were nurses and doctors, busy saving a life.
a familiar horizontal line can be seen as the electrodes are placed back to her chest.
silence came after. you could barely see disappointment plastered on their faces.
her eyes fell upon the lifeless patient. and all the hope she has had been washed away.
the man shone in bliss, "even death couldn't tear us apart."
no, s-she can't be dead too!
