Chapter 7: Creation Online

Creation, a VR MMORPG that has many fans hyped around the world. A revolutionary game own by Silence Corporation. What makes this game so unique? What makes this game stands out from the other competitors?

Necessity. This so-called Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game is not just a game, it is a second world where it better connects the people of this vast world. What other games up to contemporary times failed to compare, is the need to play and the luxury to play.

We drink water because it is a necessity, but we drink different types of beverages because it is a luxury, something we want. Creation has many ways and trickery to turn a game to a need. Mainly the need for cultivation, as almost 80% of people in this world have some sort of underlying civilization or usage of it; it is safe to presume the attraction of an increased benefit on cultivation in-game is a crucial magnet for everyone. Especially when everyone who cultivate in Creation always has the edge over those who don't. No one likes to be left out.

Of course, the game wouldn't be successful if it were to just attract players who don't like MMORPG and leave them be. When you see the move they take, it is hard to even call them an MMORPG in the future, but that's a problem for the future to discuss.

The mysterious technological breakthrough the Silence Corporation has to achieve led to the construction of the game and its benefits. Unfortunately, the corporation had dragged its release date 4 years than schedule, a bold move of them, reducing its hype to a minor amount.

Whatever left of the minor community would not be disappointed by the initial release of the game in any way. After all, the exaggerated claims they make were turning into reality, giving them hopes and dreams.

Not to mention the expensiveness of a device, even the cheapest comes at 20 000 Yuan. Rather than a rental, I decided to buy on an average price of 500 000 Yuan. Anyone in this world would think I've gone insane for doing this act, but their mouth would be shut once the game rise in popularity.

The device is called a Reality Mask, how it functions remains a mystery. Even after breaking apart one of these devices, no one was able to reverse engineer it. The sheer complexity lies in both the device and the game.

I wore the mask, it showily boots up in sequence. 10 seconds later, it feels like my soul has been transferred to an empty vessel. I opened my eyes, the view that I perceive below me always fascinated me. It was the world of Creation; to the phased bright fiery floating orb, to the intriguing remembrance of fallen ruins that scattered around this fantasy world, to the intricate network design of a large medieval-style wooden city. My eyes went soft, barely hanging itself at the astonishing sight. I was taken back.

It took me a while before I was in control once again, I turned around.

"Welcome to Creation, player" It was a course cracking voice that I had long forgotten.

"Who?" I sprouted the first thing I could think of?

"My name is Grace, what's your name?" A humanoid figure that seems like automation responded.

"My name is Li Bai," I responded with a change of attitude.

"That's a nice name, I'll be explaining a few questions before sending you off on your own." It replied with a mellow smile.

"Appreciate it."

"In this game, you would next exp to level up and get stronger. The most basic way is to kill a monster. Try killing this fl 1 monster."

A wooden sword materialized out of nowhere and fall flawlessly on my palms; alongside it, a static white smile appeared out of a magic circle. It just sat there like an immovable target.

I sliced my sword vertically at the slime, it slyly bounces to the left, but before it hit the ground, my sword made a sharp turn and slice the slime right in half.

Talk about a boring tutorial; what a great way to kill the pacing. At least the sight was spectacular.

"It seems you understand the concept, every monster has a pattern. Moreover, you will have to manually pick up and store items in your bag. Every action will have consequences, it's not just numbers on a screen that matters; for example, Npc may give you quest if they find you interesting or suitable. If you complete the objective, you would be rewarded. Furthermore, you can sell items to NPC or at an auction for other players. If you are struggling, you can form a party or join a guild to take out the target. Do you have any questions?"

"No, thank you." I shook my head, eager to rush to embrace the world of Creation.

"There isn't much restriction in his game, so feel free to explore anywhere comfortable. If you want to customize your character before you leave head to the right, beside the exit portal. The menu is always a place to refer to when you forget something if you want to share something about the game go to the wiki tab. I hope you enjoy your stay here."

I nodded before heading to a cylindrical elevator beside the exit portal.

A menu with a few tabs popped up, mainly about customizing your looks. There is 2 bold feature desperately shouting out at me. Sensitivity and age. Those 2 features are rare in any game but crucial in this.

Age can make you look younger or older, ultimately making you unrecognizable if they aren't paying attention. The most you could have tempered with was a 10 year age gap, which is very significant. It is not the looks that change the most, it is the temperament that makes you unrecognizable from afar.

Sensitivity is the amount of realism in this world you want to experience, including pain. The game prevents anything higher than 70% as it would cause mental issues in the long run. Of course, 20% is not a problem, you might not feel touch much, but the game would enchant other senses of yours to make up for it. A trade-off you would say.

I know the importance of touch and its value, naturally, I would pick 70%. As for age? 17 years old, a 5-year increase from my current 12. People wouldn't believe a young one, let alone a child.

I barely tweaked my appearance, my light brown medium length hair top paired with short sides was just right for me. The sharp jawlines of mine create a perfect curvature that goes hand in hand with my mighty upright shoulder, suits a gentleman remarkably well. Excluding my rightfully ordinary facial features, my deep-set teal green eyes were blossoming with profound knowledge; It would only strengthen with each cycle of life.

I headed out towards the portal, there was only 1 thing left to do, choose a city to be my starting point.

A city would determine your future, from the people you meet to the enemies and geography you triumph over. The game does an outstanding job by narrowing down to 3 choices depending on your area. The game does this type of approach a lot to reduce choice paralysis and make the game seem way less complex than it is.

I chose the river city because it was the best place to develop, from my perspective anyway.

Before stepping into the exit, I feel a forced washing me from behind, a familiar scent aroused from behind. I felt the urge to peek at the source, but my legs turned stale like an unoiled machine as a mass amount of pressure envelope me, drowning me. Then, as if a high surge of current had a blast up my body, forcing it to tremble out of control. It was an ominous presence, one that has revealed its position. Spring out like an ancient trap, no one would have suspected its existence if it wasn't for its glamorous appearance.

What could it be?
