The Child is a Bastard

Next door, all the lights in the Wan Household were lit. From the outside, the house glowed like a giant Christmas Village house at night.

The smell of home-cooked meals wafted out of the kitchen, which assaulted anyone's nostrils the moment that person stepped inside the Wan's household.

"Darlings, you're home." Granny's voice welcomed the brothers. Her voice was clear, light, and pleasant; her voice felt like home.

"Grandma!!!" Grant dropped his bag on the floor and rushed towards his grandma.

Lucas shook his head and scratched his temple at the sight of his baby brother.

"Everyone wanted to send their regards to the Co Matriarch. They knew you would be here the moment they saw Big Brother Lucas!" he pouted like a child that was bullied. He was not shy of showing his jealousy over their Grandma's blatant favoritism.

"Stinky boy. I love you both the same!" she pinched his cheeks and gave it a double pat.

"Then why did you give him the hill? I want that hill. My friends and I grew up playing in that place," he continued with his usual bratty self.

"Ahahahaha!" Grandma's laugh played like a piece of melodious music to one's ears. It infected everyone in the household that every single person suddenly had a smile on their face.

Everybody knew how spoiled rotten the Second Young Master was and how only the Young Master and the Co Matriarch could soothe the child.

"The hill belonged to the first grandson of the Co Family. However, you - stinky boy - are a Wan."

Grant let out a sigh. There was no point in arguing with his grandma.

Before he could open his mouth, Grandma continued, "But you don't have to worry because I have prepared a place that Zoey would love."

The mere mention of Zoey's name piqued Grant's interest. His ears burned red, so was his face. The Co Matriarch let out a chuckle and whispered to Grant's ears.

"What about that? Isn't that place nice?"

Grant bobbed his head in excitement. He could not wait for his turn to come into age.

He could not wait to see the look on Zoey's face once he brings her to that place.

Lucas watched his Grandma trick his baby brother. He was inches only away and gave a nod of respect towards his grandma.

Grandma patted Lucas's cheeks before she wiggled her arms and stood with her cane's support. The two brothers helped their grandma too, and they gently held her on her arms and elbows on both sides until she found her footing.

A few minutes later, their mother made her appearance and took her time to descend the stairs. The locks of her hair were curled up to her shoulders, which bounced with each step she took down a flight of stairs.

"Mother." The two brothers said at the same time; however, their mother only gave each son a faint smile.

They both knew that the sight of their grandma irked their mother, and they could not do anything to reconcile the two.

Their grandma cleared her throat once their mother joined them in the ten-seater dining table.

The food was ready, and the steam from it was inviting, yet nobody moved an inch. Everybody waited for the BIG BOSS of the Wan Household.

When the BIG BOSS finally arrived before Grant's 5-minute timer, he pumped his fist in the air and stretched his neck to the left, then to the right.

Admiral Wan walked solemnly and with long strides to the formal dining room. He was still in his uniform but he decided to eat first before changing his clothes.

"Welcome home, son!" He was delighted to see his eldest son home. Lucas stood up at the sight of their father. They tightly hugged each other and patted each other's arms too.

"Mother." Admiral Wan's voice was flat, yet a hint of respect could still be detected. He walked closer to the Co Matriarch and paid his respects.

He looked to his left and saw his beautiful wife. They have been married for 23 years, yet his wife never seemed to have aged a year. He bent forward and was about to give his wife a kiss when Madam Wan spoke, "The food is getting colder. Please take a seat so we could start eating. Your children are hungry."

Admiral Wan smiled before he continued what he wanted to do; he kissed his wife on the cheek. Madam Wan smiled faintly and tried to hide her discomfort from the admiral's display of affection.

According to the grapevine, Madam Wan eloped with a second lieutenant on the eve of their wedding. A search party was deployed, and the Co Matriarch placed a bounty on the second lieutenant's head.

Afraid for her lover's life, Madam Wan decided to come back and push through with the wedding ceremony. A month after the wedding, news of Madam Wan's pregnancy thrilled the prominent Co and Wan families except for the young Admiral Wan.

He never bedded his wife.

They never even shared a bed since they got married.

That child in his beautiful wife's womb is a bastard.
