Now, although Yue Ying said that he really couldn't do anything immediately. There were a lot of problems to think about. First of all, he didn't have anything to his name except for a male lead brother who he would lose in a matter of months. So he had an extremely limited amount of time to work with.
As he entered the venue, he immediately was exposed to multiple adults drinking wine and chatting. The atmosphere was similar to a high class ball, which made Yue Ying wonder why on earth he was here to begin with. A small boy brought into such an amazing world, it's no wonder that in the original he was immediately disgraced.
In the memories that he had obtained, this was the first time the original had entered such a high class looking place. While trying to find his brother, he had accidentally bumped into a business associate, making them spill wine all over themselves.
Of course, this was but a mere plot point for the female lead, who had swooped in to solve the tense situation and save the original, causing the male lead to take interest in the female lead for the first time. Honestly, for a situation such as this being the one to introduce the male lead's younger brother, it's kind of surprising that the original didn't fight with the male lead for her. He seemed to be the perfect supporting character to die for the female lead.
In a sense, he did die for the female lead.
Yue Ying smiled as he walked through the venue, being careful not to bump into anyone. Walking to a slightly discreet wall, he stationed himself there, waiting for the party to be over. According to the original story, as long as he didn't do anything too reckless, the party should pass by easily.
However, although Yue Ying wanted to pass this portion of the event slowly and easily, others would definitely not. The all invincible Gao Family had invited someone who innocent to join their family, if they didn't take advantage of this new weak point, they wouldn't be businessmen.
"Good evening, Zhi Yi." Sure enough, an arrogant looking man approached Yue Ying, who smiled outwardly at the man.
[Zero, who is this?]
"Host, that's one of the supporting male lead's father, Wei De. He leads the Y business with companies in travel and real estate. He enjoys collecting art in his spare time."
[Got it, thanks Zero.]
"Good evening to you too, Mr Wei. I trust that you have been well?" Yue Ying smiled even more sincerely. A person in the art business wouldn't be too bad of a person to talk to right now, especially when he had to fulfil the wishes of the original.
Wei De seemed to be slightly surprised at Yue Ying's sentence, although he hid it well. Coughing, he regained his composure, continuing the conversation.
"Yes indeed, I have been well. And how is your health been lately Zhi Yi? Judging from your demeanour, I see that you are healthy now."
"Thank you for your concern, Mr Wei. Actually, Mr Wei coming here to talk to me has made me feel better." Yue Ying smiled brightly, portraying the image of a young innocent boy. It seemed to work as well, with Wei De's expression softening.
"Haha, it must be difficult. This is your first time in this sort of situation, isn't it? Ah, the Gao family has fallen, not even taking care of such a young boy." Perhaps Wei De didn't see Yue Ying as a threat due to his adoption and his previous status, as he warmed up to Yue Ying pretty quickly.
"Come, come, let this uncle guide you around the place." Wei De smiled as Yue Ying thanked him, brushing it off with a short laugh. And so, Yue Ying followed Wei De around the room, being introduced to various people in a short amount of time.
Yue Ying smiled and casually talked, keeping an eye out at the same time for the main leads. Sadly though, they were nowhere to be found, much to Yue Ying's sadness. Honestly, it was strange that Yue Ying was left to wander around by himself, considering his new status. Maybe this was the Gao Family's way of distancing themselves from Yue Ying, even though he hadn't done anything.
Thankfully, there were still kind people in the world. Or at least people who were kind to unthreatening people, such as Wei De. Thinking about this, Yue Ying's smiled deepening, immersing himself in casual talk with the ground of people that Wei De had introduced him to.
They treated him as the young boy he was, casually asking him about his current situation and how he was doing. Seizing this opportunity, Yue Ying talked about his painting aspirations, successfully earning him the promise to buy his paintings from him in the future from these few people.
Zero looked on in wonder. Usually, for a system user, they took quite a long time to get used to such an atmosphere, particularly ones so young such as Yue Ying. But Yue Ying was handling extremely well, which surprised Zero a lot.
"Host, have you done this before?"
[Nope, just system novels, that's all. Extremely useful.] Yue Ying replied in his mind, smiling outwardly as he laughed softly at a joke one person made.
Perhaps such a normal atmosphere had brought on bad luck, for as soon as Yue Ying had finished this sentence, a champagne glass filled to the brim topped towards Yue Ying.
At that moment, Zero turned to inform her host of the champagne glass coming his way, before noticing that Yue Ying had realised way before her, moving out of the way by stepping to one side smoothly. The champagne glass crashed onto the ground, shattering into tiny bits and pieces, one even bouncing off the ground at a strange angle, shooting straight towards Wei De.
Yue Ying, noticing the glass shard, smoothly stepped in front of Wei De, raising a hand to block it, and accurately catching it before it could hit him. Blood started pouring out of his hand as people finally starting reacting.
"Zhi Yi!" Wei De, who reacted first, held onto Yue Ying's hand, examining it carefully. The glass shard had thankfully remained in one piece upon impact and was relatively easy to remove. Wei De pulled out the glass shard, checking to see if Yue Ying was okay.
Yue Ying smiled weakly, making sure to pretend to be as pitiful as possible. Inwardly, Zero was also panicking, floating around the wound on his hand.
"Host we should immediately head for the hospital! Or some sort of clinic? I'll search up places to treat wounds immediately!"
[Relax Zero. There will be doctors here just in case. Anyway, it doesn't hurt that much.]
"Host. Your expression doesn't match your words at all." Zero pointed at Yue Ying's pallid face, wet with cold sweat.
[It's just an act. The paleness actually comes from how weak this body is, actually.] Yue Ying watched as the standby doctors rushed in to take care of the wound.
[Rather, aren't you curious about something?]
"Host, is there anything else that's more important to focus on then this?" Zero pointed at the wound.
[Well, yes.] Yue Ying casually mentally communicated with Zero. [The heroine hasn't popped up yet, even though such a big accident has happened. And the Gao family has not shown itself either.]
Yue Ying looked over to Wei De, who was scolding the waiter who had dropped the glass. The waiter had eyes full of tears, continuously saying sorry and bowing.
[Rather… this is probably another plot point. Watch.]
Just as Yue Ying told Zero that, a female voice suddenly rang out.
"The waiter probably didn't mean any harm! You shouldn't be too harsh on him."
[There she is.] Even with just one look, Yue Ying could confirm who she was. Soft brown hair tied into a cute bun and wearing a cute blue dress with blue heels… matching the description in the original story.
The female lead, Xue Lixue.
