Nothing lasts

As the sun had completely set, Shaun had ran inside a nearby house and lit a candle. There was no breeze, so he wasn't concerned about it going out any time soon. He checked at least 2 houses before he found something important. Another diary entry.

"Some weird activity has been occuring as of lately. Some people are just disappearing without a trace. Rumors are going around that they're being murdered, but I highly doubt that, we would have found a body, right? Anyways, some people are also speculating that it has something to do with the recent arrival of this train, but again, what would they do with some people? I think I know what the problem is though,"

The page was completely covered in blood. Shaun tried to peel back the dried up scab but it only tore the page more. Just then his candle went out. He started to hear whispers out on the street. He ran out to investigate, but didn't see anyone. Rather, a dark fog spreading across the street. The whispers were clearer now. "Run, away, get away, run" over and over again. He took the hint and ran inside the house Justin was sleeping in. The fog completely covered the streets now. Was this some kind of dark magic curfew?

Anyways, this just made it harder to collect clues in a timely manner, who knew how much longer until Calum's end! How was he going to get past this... He could take to the roof. If he walked carefully, he could climb down and into a window of a house and investigate. But if he did, he could slip off and fall into the fog... who knew what it did. He did know one thing, he wasn't going to let anything happen to Justin, or Calum.

He hopped onto the roof and already nearly lost his balance. He repositioned himself, and headed into the house next next door. He looked and looked but found nothing, except some more candles, he gladly switched with his old one. Then he headed into the third house, this time he found something. It was a job application for constructing the train station. Looks like the people here were quite desperate.

Along with it was a diary entry.

"I finally got a job! I feel so lucky! Yes, this does seem quite suspicious, but who cares?! I DONT HAVE TO ONLY EAT BREAD ANYMORE!!!"

This man was quite content with his new job, but what had me meant by suspicious? Shaun was feeling quite sleepy by now so he simply took the application with him to review it late and after some more near death experiences, jumped through his window and collapsed onto his bed. Such a peculiar town, who was behind the kidnappings, what did this man know about the train that others didn't?
