Chapter 36 - The sudden development
On a peaceful afternoon, a cheerful Edgar decided to a walk in the town. After removing the Klaudes, the town seems much more lively than before as the residents don't have to endure their bullying. People are singing praises of the new lord everywhere he goes, which made Edgar extremely happy and full of himself. Though these are just icing on the cake, the real reason why Edgar is in such a good mood today is he received a letter, a letter from his father! He has been anticipating this day for a long time, having already guessed what's the content inside.
Smiling with his hands behind his back, he walks toward the inn. "I have to say I did a good job managing this town!" he praised himself. Without any better things to do, for now, he went to grab some meals to eat.
(Ding Ding)
Opening the door and he is immediately greeted by Margaret. "Hello Lord Edgar!", she walks toward him. "Beautiful as ever Margaret.", he teases her, compared to Anna she indeed looks a little original but still quite a pretty young lady. She started to get all red and shy. Being a naive girl and a girl who easily moved by flowery words, she took Edgar's joke as a serious proposal! "Anna will be unhappy if she hears this!" she hides her face with a tray and quickly guided Edgar to a table then went to the kitchen.
(Anna will share him with me right? I hear nobles usually have many wives. Okay, after today I tell the owner that I will quit too!)
She excitedly thought to herself, with Edgar's reputation improving day by day, she was the second person after Anna here in this town to noticed how capable and talented he is. What's more, is that Edgar is the sole son of the current prime minister. Edgar will eventually inherit everything that the Valvford owned. To Margaret, for a husband, Edgar possessed every quality she wanted and more. The hard part is that Edgar might not even have her in his eye, she is pretty but still lacking compared to Anna. So when Edgar asked her if she wanted to be his maid, her opportunity came.
With the arriving of Edgar's favorite dishes, he can finally have some relaxing time for himself. It has been more than half a month since he has come to this world and not only surviving this long but also greatly altered the original plot. Thinking back to Roy and he started to have headaches. His goals we're almost just to befriend Anna and Roy to avoid the bad ending. Yet he ends up being a lover with Anna and a totally pissed off Roy.
(Today should be a relaxing day, I should stop thinking about the troubling things.)
"slurp"
He digs into his roast beef stew. "What a blissful day~", he smiled with an extremely satisfied face.
"bang!"
Someone opened the entrance door with a loud sound and rushed into the inn.
"The Republic of Loland's army has breached the western border and is fast approaching this town!"
Another person similarly rushed into the inn.
"The Alliance Kingdom's Royal Navy is currently engaging with our imperial navy! They have declared war!"
What was once a loud and chattering dining hall is now completely dead silent.
"Sons of bitches!"
Edgar's mood turned worst and worst from the sudden news.
"Can I even allowed some peaceful days of rest!?"
He immediately hurried back to his mansion. This sudden development was completely out of nowhere, it wasn't even in the demo. Edgar has no idea that something like this will happened. "Did I caused this because I changed the plot too much?", the only possible answer he can come up with is this. He cracks his whip and sprints his horse at full speed ahead.
A bit more west to Town of Asberg lies the. Fortress of Maria, named after the founding emperor's wife. The single structure guarding the western border is now fallen, Lolandian flags now stood where imperial flags once were. Corpses littered throughout the ground, many were Thurssian's soldier.
"General Adele! We have completely captured the enemy's fortress!", a soldier reported.
"Good job! We will march toward the imperial Town of Asberg next. Our spy said that the prime minister's son is currently in there.", the one leading the attacks is Adele Marco, one of the top generals in the Republic. He seizing this opportunity to deal a heavy blow to the empire. A large part of the Western Frontier of the Imperial Thurrsian Empire originally belonged to the Republic, but after a series of wars by the founding emperor, it has fallen into Thurrsian's hand. He fully intended to get revenge on them.
Back home, Edgar met with Frederick in his study room.
"Frederick, you aware of the situation we are in right?", he took out a map. The distance from Fortress Maria to here is one day on foot, for all he knows, Maria might fall already. The next closest city here is a port city but with the royal navy on its way, that place might not be safe as well. So the only way out is only to further inland.
"Frederick, you and Anna will lead the town's residents inland while I lure the enemy away. They will definitely come for the prime minister's son."
