Revelations

'Jae is dead and I'm the one who killed her.'

Those were the words that Wooyoung had told her - the ones that made her mind go blank and her mouth to fall open in shock. He had even said it so casually, even though he had been so terrified to tell her about it. There was also the fact that he had been on the run before coming to find her at Mistlyn.

How was she even meant to feel? Was she supposed to be sad, angry, happy?

She should be sad that her only sister was now gone from the world. And anger was what she was meant to feel when having the murderer sitting next to her, telling her about the evil act he had committed; he was also one of her closest friends.

Happiness wasn't an emotion you would normally associate with losing a loved one; however, when you take into account that the one who had died was your number one hater, wouldn't you feel some relief that they were gone? Although, that could be seen as being completely heartless.

Her brain felt like it was close to combusting, and she dug her nails into her palms to stop herself from screaming out her frustrations.

"Are you telling the truth?" she asked through clenched teeth. "Was Jae's death caused by you?"

She closed her eyes and focused on steadying her breathing, when the only reply she got was Wooyoung solemnly nodding his head.

Opening her eyes again, she turned towards him and said, "why did you do it? I know Jae was a pain in the neck and the cause of my mother's death, but she didn't deserve to die. I was just going to let the authorities deal with her. There was no need to dirty my hands, dealing with her."

"It-it was an accident..." He struggled to speak through the sobs that were bubbling up in his throat.

"We were arguing about her sending you away, and all the other things she had done, and then it happened... one minute we were shouting at each other, and the next she was falling backwards and hitting her head. She died instantly, and I panicked..."

His breathing was becoming more erratic and his words were coming out more twisted, making it hard for Ali or San to understand him.

"I should've rung the police and for an ambulance but I just couldn't. My head was a mess, and I couldn't think clearly," he continued to say, "Ali, San, you can't tell anyone!"

"Wooyoung..." Ali was about to say something to him, but the words halted in her throat when the car was rammed into from behind.

Looking out of the window, Ali could just make out the wardens' faces as they continued to stick closely to the car. They had acquired a car of their own, and whilst San and the others were distracted, they had caught up with them.

"Shit, step on it San!" Ali shouted at him, and he quickly did as he was told. They couldn't get caught now, not when they had gotten so far, and were so close to returning home.  "Hurry, they're right behind us!"

San pushed his foot down more, and some distance was put between them and their pursuers. "Hold on! We'll be out of the woods soon, and then we can get away from them."

He sounded quite sure of himself, but it was plain for them all to see that this wasn't going to be easy.

They were in for a long ride.
