A Man of Culture and an Idiot Son

[You can skip this chapter if you don't like world building, its just last chapter told from William.]

William once again thought of Mr. Walton's surprise visit and two requests, while he was making his character.

Mr. Walton had asked William to continue to look after his daughter in his stead; something that that didn't need to be said to William. William loved Juliet as much as his own son James, and would even sacrifice the remainder of his life for the two. William had been much less strict with Juliet than he had been with Mr. Walton. William needed to help guide Juliet to slowly interacting with the outside world, or one day she would get . The other request given to William was practically a command! William was once the primary caretaker of Mr. Walton, practically a father. William had passed on a lot of his habits, worldviews, swearing, and of course Mr. Walton knew his preferences.

William saw himself as five things: one hell of a butler, a nerd, a gamer, and a weeb. He had once been things like a Marine and martial artist, but they were more of jobs to William and less of things that defined him. As a job is not what defined up a person, at least that is what William had observed in his many years. Would a cashier or fast food worker describe themselves as such, outside of work? One usually only attached meaning to a job if it shaped their entire life, like his current job.

William had prided himself on the fact he had molded Mr. Walton. If not for William's nurturing, Mr. Walton probably never know of the anime medium. With Mr. Walton, so many shows would not have gotten adaptations like they did. Many anime like Spice and Wolf, No Game No Life, KonoSuba, and Devil is a Part Timer would not have received full adaptations if Mr. Walton did not also watch anime as a hobby.

One could describe many hobbies that were now mainstream being indirectly traced back to Mr. Walton's investments into them and giving them proper media coverage. Tabletop gaming (like DnD), anime, gaming, had all once been hobbies that had been shunned in his youth. Something that only cringe nerds would partake in! William had happily taken on the many hateful badges ascribed to him, and now he wore them as badges of honor in his mind. 'Nerd. Gamer. Otaku. Degenerate. Weeb.' These words were who he was and no one could take that away from him!

William had been exited to be able to dive into a virtual space, once Mr. Walton had surprised him with it's existence. Mr. Walton had been successful in fulfilling his childhood dream, and a wish of William's. VR would allow William to personally experience a unknown worlds, and he would even be given a young virtual body. William couldn't wait, but guilt also inhabited his mind as he thought of Juliet.

'Would she be able to handle interacting with other people or even NPCs?' Juliet could slightly interact with the other staff who had been working in the mansion for years, but it was simply to voice her wants or needs. She was simply demanding things onesidedly, and could most likely not even hold up a conversion. Juliet would also have to battle monsters, even if it wasn't on the front lines. William's greed had told himself that Juliet needed to use this as an experience, but in his heart he knew it could go very bad very quickly in Wish. Juliet definitely needed the protection that her father had asked for, and he would do anything in his power to stop Juliet from feeling much pain.

The second request, the forceful command really, given to William was a more difficult task. On the day of his surprise appearance, Mr. Walton had looked William straight in the eye and whispered:

"Will, I know you will be excited to play Wish. However, as Juliet's former butler you must keep Juliet's safety in mind. I know you are probably the most excited for this. For Juliet sake, do not create or roleplay your 'waifu' Shinobu Oshino in Wish! It will cause to many problems for Juliet, who doesn't know your taste as a Lolicon."

Will had averted his eyes and sweat profusely, after slight pause, he had said. "Yes sir!"

With the character creation now before him, William could easily create Shinobu, or any other character from the myriad of anime he had watched. James and William would not be receiving any power ups like Juliet did, but they too had all the character customization open to them along with the pods.

"Fuck!"

William knew that in any RPG, including MMO, appearances mattered. The avatar represented themselves in the online world. If he could not create Shinobu, or even any Lolis, where would his enjoyment come from! Faced with such a problem, as a man of culture, he had a simple solution.

"If I can't make a Loli, I'll just make myself as a big titty onee san!"

William unconsciously created a beautiful older woman who resembled his old wife! As character creation and Transmog were the true end game of all MMOs, William had no problems interacting with the interface. He had spend countless hours in MMOs like Tinal Fantasy and the countless Korean MMOs, adjusting characters appearance until it was how he envisioned. The avatar had white skin, a sharp but cute chin, light hazel eyes, a 98 centimeter bust, permanently wearing light pink eye shadow, deep black eye liner to accentuate her long lashes, and dark pink highlights that faded along her bangs to reveal silverish grey hair.

Instead of picking a name so he could RP, William instead choose a name befitting the avatar he created with the purpose of making a name for himself. It was "あら". In Wish, everything would be translated to be universally understood by any player, including names and words spoken by another player. In game, あら would roughly translate into [My My] for English speakers, his intended translation. With his name and character choosen, he selected to continue. The game asked him if he wished to do the tutorial, to which he agreed. He easily beat the tutorial, without taking any damage. After the tutorial quest was completed, he was swiftly teleported to a city without any further explanation. As far as tutorials go, William did not think is was very proficient, as it did not tell the players anything about the world or explain the combat system, classes, etc in detail.

William observed the surroundings of the sprawling city before him. He was standing atop a large platform on a hill, carved with various light blue runes, overlooking what was most likely a sprawling capital city before him. If William were to guess, he was atop a teleportation beacon. Such beacons were usually used to quickly teleport between cities or as a place to teleport back back to if they set it up as their home coordinates. Either here in this beacon or an inn were the stereotypical places for such travel.

Looking back at the cities streets, William could see two of the four token races that most fantasy games included; Humans and Dwarves. Dwarves, Humans, Elves, and Orc were a staple of every fantasy setting, as most took inspiration from Tolkien, and others took inspiration from the fantasy inspired by Tolkien. Elves usually were few in number and mostly inhabited remote settlements in places like forest. Orcs could be good or pure evil depending on how heavily a work was inspired. Most modern fantasy put orcs as pure evil, some going as far as putting them as monster mobs. So the two races not being here was little surprise to William.

William continued to slowly observe the city instead of leaving. Most games had a spawn hub for new players. Mr. Walton had told William that each major server had a different capital city they would spawn in, so Juliet and James should be coming soon.

William continued to observe the denizens and noticed 'beast people' mixed in the crown. These NPCs seemed to be a hybrid of humans and beast, with more parts humans than beast. In some fantasy setting these hybrids were heavily discriminated against because they were part 'monster.' Hopefully it would not be the case here, because William hated the humans are superior trope.

While William was pondering such a thought, a bright flash accompanied by a small silhouette filled Williams vision.

After the light dissipated, William could clearly see Juliet. Juliet seemed to have blue highlights and was scantily clad? Although James did choose the clothes that Juliet would normally wear, there were many options in the character creator for a plain base shirt, such as the one William's avatar was wearing. Juliet would have to go far into the interface options of the character creation to select such a small piece of cloth, as her base shirt. Knowing the Juliet he raised, William did not think Juliet had the confidence or desire to wear such apparel. Only one person would do such a thing.

"James, why have you soiled the lady's appearance with such an avatar?"

A sweet womanly voice escaped William's mouth. A voice that William had carefully selected from the character selection screen, that he thought matched his avatar well.

"..."

His own son seemed to be bullying Juliet now? James had started to tease Juliet a bit as the two got older, but James had always had good intentions. James kept Juliet on a schedule, and forced Juliet to get some form of education. Something that he been to lenient on Juliet to do. Yet the avatar before him seemed, like a mockery of Juliet. Anger welled up inside William. What if both James and Juliet made an avatar of Juliet. He could only imagine the number of misunderstanding the two would have in the virtual space with other people.

"Answer me boy!"

"Dad, I'm sorry!"

The avatar said in a cute girly voice, that sounded nothing like Juliet, but matched the avatar well. The son could easily recognize the father, as the father could easily recognize the son.

"Dad.."

Just as James was about to give his explanation, another bright light entered their visions and a rune lit up. A large muscular dark toned man was hunched over, tears slowly dropping from his demonic looking eyes. Even though he was crying, an imposing aura was felt by both James and William. The man slowly looked up and wiped his teary eyes.

"..."

This man couldn't possibly be Juliet right? Why is he crying, the only thing after character creation is the tutorial? Did he die a million times? One shouldn't be able to feel pain in the tutorial and the rabbits were child play in William's eyes.

The tall man stood up and directly stated at James. James slightly shuttered and ran away!

Juliet chased after the shitter, who had taken her appearance in this world. Juliet had been crying and thinking of a place to crawl into and hide, only a few moments ago. Yet her sudden teleportation, brought her in an embarrassing state in front of Gramps. Juliet didn't want to show Gramps that she had crying and seeing the appearance of the fuck had ignited something in her. Her mind had roughly gone from self pity and fear, to embarrassment, and now to anger!

Juliet didn't understand why the scheming fuck choose her as his avatar, but she truthfully couldn't care less. With the name [Arrogant Heiress], it seemed like he was trying to mess with her. With such an avatar, wouldn't doing lewd things to it basically be doing lewd things to her? [Arrogant Heiress] was already wearing almost no clothes, the boy Juliet thought she once knew truly had become a piece of shit!

Juliet threw all other thoughts from her mind and continued to chased after [Arrogant Heiress]. Juliet could hear Gramps chasing after her, as she continued to run. Gramps having a female avatar was also a surprise, but at least he had chosen his old wife, and not someone else's appearance.

Juliet could see a stamina bar on her right side of the hub slowly depleting...
