A New Beginning

It's already been another few months, Daniel was still in a coma. Four of the bullets were taken out successfully but the doctors were worried about the bullet that was shot to the head. Luckily, his organs are saved but they were not too happy about the results. That one bullet was not taken out due to dangers it may cause after the removal.

The doctors expected Daniel to have a low survival rate but it was his will to live that made the difference. They were surprised Daniel was still alive.

It's been a while since Leanna visited Daniel. Leanna was Daniel's younger sister who flew to Hongkong from the America. When she first heard his older brother got shot, she immediately flew to Hongkong. She was notified by someone.

"Brother, it's Leanna. I came to visit you again. Last week, I graduated from college. I heard you got exempted from attending college and you were working for the HK Group. From what I heard, the girl named Elizabeth used to be your girlfriend but she haven't visited you since she flew abroad. I saw in the news that she's going to get married to another guy. I never thought it will happen this way. She could've at least visited you. Can't believe she's so heartless. Why did she abandon you? Many things happened while you're here, Mom passed away because she commited suicide. Dad is still in jail. I heard he murdered someone important. I still believed they framed our father. Brother... please wake up soon." Leanna sighed.

"Oh Leanna, you're here again." Daniel's friend from England came to visit him from the beginning of the incident. His name was Ray. They were now in Shanghai. Daniel was still in a coma but he was safe enough to travel according to his doctor.

Leanna sat on the sofa while eating a bag of chips. Ray bought some juicebox and Leanna started to drink them.

"Hey Ray, do you think my brother will ever wake up?" Ray shrugged his shoulder.

"I don't know. I want him to wake up soon." Ray drank at least three juiceboxes. He was still pissed off from before.

"I just don't understand. I thought things were going well for them. I guess you can never judge a book by its cover. His ex-girlfriend should visit him or I should be calling her, a bitch. She's getting married while Daniel is still in a coma. What a trash." Ray was angry still. How can one person jump to another one so easily?

Leanna shook her head and shrugged as well.

"Ray, are any more people coming to visit today?" Ray looked at her and at the door, "Speak of the devil, here they come."

Elizabeth, Marcus, and with whole other bodyguards came into Daniel's room. Ray stood up and was about to punch her eyes out. Leanna stopped him and shook her head.

Elizabeth smiled and gently touched Daniel's handsome face. Ray rolled his eyes and shook his head.

"Daniel, I missed you so much. I'm so glad you're still alive. I thought you were dead. Since you are alive and well, I'm going to tell you this. I'm going to get married to Marcus. He's the love of my life. We shall talk more after you wake up, my little puppy." Elizabeth gave him a light kiss on the cheek. Marcus was beside her and held her hands.

"Let's go. We have to go to the wedding reception." Elizabeth smiled at him and held his hands.

Leanna tried to calm Ray to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid.

Ray clenched his fist and murdered them in his head.

"Who does she think she is?" Ray looked disgusted.

"Ray, they are going to leave. Calm down." Ray sighed as Elizabeth left the room.

Few minutes passed when suddenly the machine started to beep irregularly. Leanna quickly pressed the help button and doctors arrived at the speed of light.

"Move." The doctor shoved Leanna to the side and Ray caught her. They both looked at each other but quickly looked away. No time for romance when Daniel was on brink of death.

"Epinephrine, 10cc. Patient has cardiac arrest."

The doctor was relieved when the heartbeat came back normally after cpr and epinephrine.

"Which one of you is the family member?" Leanna raised her hand and went outside with the doctor.

"The prognosis isn't too good. You have to prepare for the worst." Leanna nodded and bowed to the doctor.

"Don't let the patient receive any kind of stress. The bullet is still in his head and if it goes wrong, infection can occur." The doctor shook his head and went his way.

Ray and Leanna stood by Daniel's side while Leanna held Daniel's hand.

"Brother, please get better. We are all waiting for you."

That night, Leanna came to the hospital after work. She immediately went into Daniel's room.

"Brother, I came. It's your sister, Leanna. Look what I've got. It's your business management diploma. I knew you can do it. Ray and I discussed about something. After you wake up, let's build a business together and we'll make it big. Other people will get so jealous of us. How does that sound?" Leanna smiled and looked at Daniel sleeping so peacefully.

As she got up and reorganized some of the stuff, she saw Daniel's finger twitching.

"Brother? Brother?" Leanna tries to wake up Daniel but he was still closing his eyes.

"I must've been dreaming." Leanna thought. She carefully placed his hand back into the blanket when she saw his eyes twitch.

"Brother? Can you hear me? It's me, Leanna." Leanna waited until Daniel slowly opened his eyes.

Ray entered just in time. Leanna signalled Ray and he came in a jiffy.

"Daniel, can you hear me? It's Ray. I'll call the doctor now." Ray went outside and called a doctor in charge.

The doctor came in and checked Daniel's condition. They were surprised he woken up. They checked his pupil, whether he's respond or not.

"Daniel, can you blink for me?" Daniel blinked as the doctor said.

"Can you follow my finger?" The doctor said.

Daniel slowly moved his eyes. The doctor smiled and told them, "It's good news. Make sure not to get him too agitated or stressed out."

"Daniel, you've come a long way. Welcome back." The doctor smiled and left the room.

Leanna was relieved. Ray finally took a deep sigh of relief. The doctor signalled Leanna to come out.

"Since he just woke up, I'll tell you about the side effect that might occur. He was shot and his frontal lobe was affected. Basically what the frontal lobe does is to control our emotion, memory, language judgment. He will have personality changes and memory loss. If he get too stressed out, symptoms like headache, vomiting and nausea can also occur." Leanna did not expect this to be this serious. She understood and went back into the room. Ray sat on the chair and watched over Daniel.

"Daniel, you've been asleep for at least 5 months. Leanna came in everyday to take care of you. Do you remember what happened?" Daniel stared into space and shook his head.

"Should we tell him he got shot?" Ray whispered to Leanna.

She shook his head, "Not now." Ray shuts up and looked at Daniel. Finally, his friend is awake.

"Brother, you can start rehab soon after a few days. We will help you get back in shape in no time." Leanna looked at Ray and he nodded.

Daniel closed his eyes again and fell asleep. Leanna and Ray sat on the sofa again.

"Ray, Daniel will have lots of challenges ahead of him. The doctor said surviving this many gunshots will be very traumatic for him. He will have personality changes and memory loss. We also need to make sure he doesn't get too stressed out or agitated." Leanna was disappointed. She swore she will find the person who shot her brother.

"Let's work together." Ray high-fived Leanna

"Ray, never mention about Elizabeth in front of him. Never show him any news about her. I don't want my brother to suffer again." Ray nodded and promised her, "I swear I wont."

Few days later, Daniel started his rehab. It was very hard and challenging for him. Leanna and Raye took turn to go into physiotherapy with Daniel. They wanted Daniel to be able to stand tall again and have a new beginning.
