Chapter 3: A New Character

Evelyn was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't notice a pair of eyes looking her way. Those eyes had a hint of amusement in them, as they watched Evelyn's myriad of facial expressions. Night was originally sitting under a secluded tree reading a book, but he immediately noticed Evelyn when she walked by him. Not many people in the school knew who Night was. He was a genius, but he remained so low-key that his existence was a mystery. His good-looks and intelligence should have made him the center of attention, but no matter how many people tried, no one seemed to be able to get close to him, so eventually people gave up and just viewed him from afar.

Now however, the ever indifferent Night had a gentle expression on his face, as he watched Evelyn. If anyone were to see Night now, they would have thought they had seen a ghost. Night was famous for his cold expression paired with his jet black hair and dark eyes. As a result, he seemed quite intimidating at first glance.

Despite Evelyn's pale complexion due to the poison, she could actually be considered quite beautiful with long black hair and a pair of eyes that seemed like they could see a person's heart. However, Evelyn was always a quiet person who didn't like a lot of attention paired with her sickly being, few guys actually took notice of her. What Evelyn didn't know was that Night had always taken note of her. Ever since they met freshman year, Night constantly paid attention to Evelyn. For some odd reason, he couldn't stop thinking about her. As for Evelyn, although she remembered Night, she never had any particular reaction.

Back then, she still had a crush on Kai who was well-known for being the school prince. As a rich second-generation heir along with his good-looks Kai's popularity was through the roof. And Evelyn, along with pretty much all the other girls in the school had a crush on him. At the time, Evelyn was unaware of Ivy and Rose's schemes, and she made a fool of herself several times by listening to their so-called 'advice'. It wasn't that Evelyn was dumb, she was just naive and falsely trusted those around her. She was a classic case of being blinded by love.

Night's eyes followed Evelyn as she walked away, her black hair glinting under the sunlight. He smiled unknowingly before returning his attention to his book.
