CHAPTER 8: Opposites attract

Kunal's eyes now gloomed. He felt bad but didn't want to show it on his face, so he built up a smile which he didn't know how rueful it was. He turned away from Riya and was walking when he paused for a minute before turning back to her and said "You were right. Let's just be friends. What about hanging out with my friends? I guess all of us can go sometime."

Riya was now relieved, she gave him a bright smile and replied "Of course. Let me know when and I'll be there. "

Both of them waved hands at each other bidding goodbye. Kunal went back to his friends whose eyes were fixed on him all this time. He could makeout from their curious faces that they wanted to hear everything, so without getting bothered to be asked a question, he answered " I was blown down again. A clear and firm rejection this time. But never mind, there is plenty of fish in the sea. I'll try for some other girl. Maybe Aryan can help me introduce myself to one of the million girls he knows." Kunal ended trying to mock Aryan.

Aryan was annoyed with what Kunal had said just now. He didn't knew a million girls. Well yes, he always had fun with girls and was not committed to them. Its was because he never felt an urge to be with a girl forever. He never wanted a girl to belong to only him and no one else but that didn't mean his friend could taunt him like that. Along with annoyance he could also feel happiness. Aryan was cogitating to why he was feeling happy that Kunal was rejected by Riya, particularly when he had just met the girl, and her name was the only thing he knew about her. Kunal seemed to have known what was going in his friend`s mind when he again said "I am actually curious to find out who Riya`s partner going to be. Right Max?". He gesturing to Max about Aryan.

Max followed it and said" Who better than our Aryan huh?"

Aryan now looked at Max with surprise when Kunal lead the conversation forward. "That's exactly what I think. Both of them are completely opposite to each other. She is innocent and quite going while this guy loves being the play boy. She has simple and fun plans with her friends to malls and cinemas, and on the other hand Aryan is always ready for parties and clubs. Despite all these differences you know what people always say? 'opposites always attract'."

Aryan who was keenly listening to the conversation, now sat on the bench and started scrolling through his phone to show his friends that he couldn't care less about it, but his heart was telling him to pay more attention to it. Huh, this heart of his never agreed with what he felt was right.

"Aryan, Kunal is right I think both of you will make a great pair." Max said.

" And that's why we are going out for a dinner tomorrow with Riya."

Aryan finally added his voice to the conversation " No way, we are not going. Actually you guys can go if you want to but I am not going to join you. That's it."

He now sighed and said " Whatever".

******

It was lunchtime now. The cafeteria was as usual filled with people. Students were moving with food trays in their hands, Riya was one of them too. A guy came up to her. Riya in no time recognized the person. Kunal came up to her and sat beside her.

"Hey Kunal, What's up?" she said trying to sound as friendly as possible.

"All good. Riya I wanted to inform you about our hangout tomorrow. Sharp 6:00 pm at so and so mall to pick good outfits for the Freshers night and then we'll go for a dinner at a nice fancy place. Okay? "

"Ya why not. Do mind if I bring along three of my friends?"

" Of course not, I would love it if your friends could join. K, I gotta go, bye" he said and was just moving forward before he came back to Riya and grabbed a handful of french fries from her tray "Thanks for the fries" he said and left. He was really a nice guy. She liked how light hearted he was while talking to people. It made them want to talk to them even more.
