Weird Duo

Chapter 7

As I listened to the teacher in front discussing the lessons, I got curios of what my friend is doing right now so looked at the very last seat near the window. Lourence is sitting there his whole attention is on what's goin' on outside, not even listening to the teacher. My friend Jeevan once said, usually the one who's at the very back is the main protagonist of the story. I thought to myself 'So I'm only an extra?' Speaking of Jeevan, I don't usually see him these past few months. After thinking for some time, my attention went back to the teacher in front.

KRIIIIIIIIINGGG…

The class ended, as usual, we went out from the classroom together. While walking on the path going to the gate. I can see the athletes practicing, my gaze went to my companion. As expected, we were looking on the same thing. He stared at the athletes, with his usual expressionless face. But I know that deep down, he's thinking something like 'Such a waste of energy.' It has been two months since we started talking, since then, we always go home together. Although he hates talking, there's has been some changes that I noticed. Before, he hates when someone is bothering him, especially when he's reading his book. But now, I think he's not complaining so much like before.

After we went out of the gate, I talked to him.

"Bro, wanna go to a shopping mall or something?", I asked him.

He had a disgusted for a second, and stared at me with an hesitant expression. It's been over two months, and still, not even once we went to a place together. I have a huge respect for him, so I invited him to strengthen our bonds or something like that. "I'm not forcing you, so it's okay to decline my offer.", I told him. Hearing what I said, he's gaze went up while thinking. Moments later, he sighed and finally nodded.

Entering the mall.

GRGHHH...

I got hungry and asked Lourence, "Bro, let's go grab a bite at WcDonals." He nodded without having a second thought. I thought, 'Looks like I'm not the only one who's hungry.' After ordering, we sat at our designated table and waited for the food to arrive. I got really excited seeing the food in front of me, and also, as you may know, I'm very hungry.

After we finished, we immediately got out. Because there's another reason why I want to go here. I want to buy the game that is very popular these days called 'Counter Fire'. I got curios about it when I heard my classmates talking about it. It is online, first person shooting game.

Walking through the store, I saw a familiar figure. I immediately recognized the person, he's Sem. He is the so called 'Game Acer' in our school, because whenever when someone introduces a game to him, he immediately mastered it within a day or so. So I walked to him and tapped his shoulder, "Sem, are you here to buy the new game too?"

"No, I already played that game. It's really not challenging to me.", he replied.

"Well, that's the 'Game Acer' for you.", I said with a bit of laughter. I think he's a bit busy, so I'm not gonna bother him too much. As the both of us (my companion) are about to enter the store to find what I was looking for--.

"SEEEEM!"

Somebody called Sem, me and my companion got curios. So we gaze to the person calling him. After seeing the person, 'No wonder the voice is so familiar.', I thought. He is the so called 'rival' of Sem. He calls himself the 'Ace Destroyer', his real name is Ray. Honestly, they are a weird duo, since middle school they have been competing through video games till now. They are a weird duo in my opinion, 'cause Ray is the type of person who always challenge the strong. He does not easily give up, he always losses to Sem, so that's why he always finds a time to take Sem for a one on one battle. While the other person, he usually doesn't talk but he always accepts challenges (but he wants a fair fight).

I got a bit surprised when Ray brought two people with him. I think this is not fair, 'Will Sem accept his challenge?', I wondered.

"Sem, since I always lose to you. I think this is the time to give me a handicap.", he told Sem with a prideful face.

"Well, too bad for you, I have my own team.", he replied. He gazed at me and my companion after he said that. "What?", I asked with a confused expression.

"Why the f*ck am I here?", I complained while I sat on a chair facing the computer. I think I know where this is going, since the enemy is three people, and coincidently me and my companion are present. So he used us to do a three on three battle. 'What an evil guy.', I thought. I thought that because I know that he knows that I'm bad at playing games. He is one of my buddies when I was still pretending before. So he knows the fact that I'm bad at it games. I gazed at him, and he noticed me, so he gazed at me back while having an evil grin. I got a bit pissed and didn't bother looking at him.

The two teams are opposite to each other, so we can't see the other people's screen. That's what I want, a fair game.

The countdown started, I got a bit hyped when finally started. I thought, 'I'm gonna beat your asses.', but I was wrong. Not even 30 seconds past, me and Lourence got instantly killed by the enemy using a sniper rifle. I got really surprised by it, I didn't think that the people brought by Ray could be so good, so I took back what I said. But the next moment made me even surprised, the only person on our team who's still alive is Sem. He brought only a pistol and managed to kill the other team, ALL BY HIMSELF!

The face of the other people is devastated. Ray stood up from where he sat and pointed at Sem, "I will get my revenge, just you wait.", and walked out of the store. I gazed at Sem and saw that he isn't even affected by his victory, he is still wearing the old dull expression. The he looked at me, "As usual, you're as useless as ever.", he said while having a bit of laughter. Then he went back to his calm expression and said, "But, It's been a fun experience so I think it's worth it." After he said that, he went to the cashier to pay for his purchased.

I looked at my companion, and got startled. He had a gloomy face, I think it is because he got tired and irritated of the incident.

"What are you waiting for? Buy the goddamn thing you went here for.", he said to me with an irritated expression. So I immediately looked for the game that I went here for, and I immediately found it.

Inside the train, Lourence's attention is completely focused on his book. I don't want to bother his peace. So I took out my earphones and connected it to my phone and played a song called, 'I see fire'. It really suits the night scenery outside; it made me relaxed listening to this song.

Inside the train, as I listened to some music. I saw a familiar figure, 'Isn't that Jeevan?'

As I was planning to go to him, when the train stopped, we reached the station. After I got out, I couldn't find the person who I was about to call. 'Maybe I'm just imagining things.', I thought. And bid farewell to Lourence.
